New hvac Unit with 2x4s supporting
Sarah I.

DO NOT EVER WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THIS COMPANY. THEY WILL TAKE YOUR MONEY, DO A SHIT JOB AND LEAVE YOU IN THE DIRT. Our heat pump went out in March 2022, which was a blessing and a curse, because that meant that we could get the HVAC unit replaced before the hot summer. It took a couple months to actually get American Hvac out here and look at our property to figure out what exactly they needed in order to replace the unit, which included a crane because we live in a townhome community, and our HVAC unit is on the roof. they finally came to replace the unit in June 2022, right after my son was born. They installed everything in a day, and the AC was working great for the hot summer, which I super appreciate. However, the unit they replaced it with, was bigger than our original unit, and the duct was on the wrong side, so instead of repositioning the duct, they placed the unit across the original footprint that is secured to our rooftop. And to hold the rest of the unit that was not on the base, they simply placed two by fours underneath it - Not secured to the roof in any way, so if any earthquake were to come through and knock any of the 2x4s over, the HVAC unit would come crashing through our ceiling. And thus, when I had the inspector come out, he failed them because the unit was not secured to the roof. no one from the company was here for the inspection, and the inspector said that's because they knew they wouldn't pass. So another month goes by before they can send somebody out here to do the work to secure the unit, the inspector came back, looked at the work, failed them again because it still wasn't earthquake proof. He called them to speak with the install manager and explained that in order for them to make it earthquake proof with the way that the HVAC unit was sitting on the original pad, they would have to go through the HOA to secure their extra 2x4s to the rooftop and provide plans to the city to get them approved, which, on the phone with the inspector, American Hvac said they would rather not do. It is now October of 2022. My son and our HVAC unit are now four months old, and they are 2 1/2 hours late to reposition the duct and the unit to fit on the original base, which they should have done in the first place. I don't understand why it's taking so long, considering it's not a new unit, it's just a replacement, even the inspector said this is their day job and what they do every day to hundreds of home in the bay area since a lot of these houses have had their HVAC units fail within the past few years. I don't know if we got a bad team, or whatever, but it has taken way too long and I'm taking too many days off of work to sit around waiting for these guys to keep coming back and failing inspections. Update (10/14): they never arrived. I called 3 hours into their appointment window to see what was going on and they said they had an emergency pop up and we'd have to reschedule. Why did I have to call them for this? Once they have your money, you're nothing to them. Rescheduled for Monday 7-11am Update (10/17) : it's two hours into our rescheduled appt window. They are not here. I call. They say they are held up by their morning appointment. But I am their morning appointment. They reschedule for 11-3. Again. Why do I have to contact them. I have spent my entire maternity leave stressed out about this company. I can't believe they are allowed and able to do this to people.

2018 AC install

American HVAC installed an AC for me on the roof of our 2 story property in 2018. When we had them come out recently to see why it's no longer cooling, they told us that they cannot get on to the roof to check the HVAC unless the building has roof access. As you can see in the photo, they did not have any problem with getting onto the roof before the AC was installed in 2018. Back in 2018, I was initially happy to hear that they could do the installation for a reasonable price. But I didn't leave a positive review because one of the installers shoved the new HVAC unit across the surface of the roof. I yelled and he stopped. Now I am just unhappy that the company does not always service what they install. If service after sales is important to you, I'd recommend looking elsewhere.

Big shout out to American HVAC and its best Rudy Zapien! Our air conditioner was not working properly amid this super hot week. Rudy came and quickly located the source of the problem, the capacitor. Then in just an hour he got our unit back online, very professional. Much appreciated!

Technicians are amazing. Quick response. Give time when they're going to be there and call before hand.

We had no idea when it was last serviced or if it had ever been serviced at all. Henry gave us a very fair and competitive price for a tune up. Upon Henry's arrival, he was friendly and professional. He opened the furnace and showed us the burner. He explained it was in great condition considering the age of the unit and it didn't need servicing; although, he did clean up around a few areas around the burner. The blower motor was slightly wobbly, and once again, he explained it was still in good shape considering its age. He proceeded to the back patio where the condenser was located. He noted the unit was very old and that particular Freon is no longer available for servicing; however, he stated the unit did not need to be replaced just yet as long as it's blowing cold. Henry indicated despite our units being way past their anticipated life expectancy, they were clean and blowing hot & cold just fine. Therefore, no servicing was recommended and he did not charge us anything. We are impressed not only by Henry's friendliness and professionalism, but also by his transparency and integrity. Many other companies would have hopped on the opportunity to upsell the service or even sway us to replace our system right away, but Henry gave us peace of mind to give us time and to save up for an inevitable replacement in the future with Therma Tech. Thank you so much, Henry! We will definitely contact you again in the future and recommend you to all our family, friends and coworkers.

Michael Calvey thoroughly explained all of the options for our house's specific HVAC needs and was very patient with me as I asked a variety of questions. In fact, he made numerous trips to our house to answer the constant flow of questions my wife and I had. Bottom line, we built a solid working relationship with Michael and this gave us the comfort we needed to move forward with our HVAC investment. Calvey Heating and Air's estimate for a new heat pump and furnace at our house was very competitive. I was amazed at how much the pricing varied from vendor to vendor. Michael and the Calvey team made the entire process seamless from start to finish. Michael recommended an electrician who did a great job with our electric panel upgrade and the permit team did a fantastic job working with the city for all of the required paperwork. When it came time for the installation, the lead installer, Servando, and his team took pride in their work for the two day install. Similar to Michael, they were patient with me and answered all my questions during the install. Following the install, the Home Energy Rating System (HERS) Team promptly arrived and conducted the necessary testing. Lastly, the permit team met with the city building inspector to successfully get the city sign off on all of the work. Throughout the entire process, Calvey Heating and Air did a great job choreographing and managing all aspects of the installation. I was constantly kept informed and Michael and his team visited our house daily during the installation to ensure all was moving forward properly. Lastly, a final walk-through was conducted by Johnny from Calvey ensuring that the install was 100% perfect. Once my wife and I have had time to work with and get familiar with our new system, Michael indicated he will have his team come by our house and balance out our vents if needed and answer any additional questions we may have. Overall, my wife and I cannot be happier with our decision to have Calvey Heating and Air install our new system. Their service was great from start to finish and there were no hiccups. We highly recommend them. Thank you Michael Calvey!

Michael came out to my house and walked me through the pros and cons of a heat pump HVAC. For my home, the extra money made no sense. I really do not need central AC. We then talked about a new Carrier, high-efficency furnace. That was exactly what I needed. I also opted for the Ecobee Smart, wi-fi enabled thermostat. I am extremely happy with everything. The price was right. The installation was flawless. The post-intall QA walkghrough, by Johnny, went really well. ThenI worked with the folks that checked all the boxes post-intalleation. HERS test was easy with a pass.. Today, we passed the inspection, in under 5 minute. Every person I dealt with was amiable and professiona. The office staff always very nice. Michael Calvey was a joy to talk to. Thank you to Johnny, the project manager, and the folks from HOPSTER that facilitated the post-installation test and inspectioin. From start to finish I met with Michael on February 12th. The 16th the new furnace was intalled. February 17th Johnny did the QA walkthrough. February 18th HOPSTER did their pre-test and inspection walkthrough. The HERS test was done February 23rd. March 5th the city inspection was complete. I will continue to use Calvey for annual maintenance
