Lunar Air Systems - Testing the capacitor - Heating & Air Conditioning/HVAC Near Me - Union City, California

I've never lived in a home with AC despite the hot summers in San Jose. We bought a house and decided to get it installed so wanted to share my positive experience with James over at Luna Air Systems. He really knows his stuff and really great at communicating. My husband oversaw the main communication with him but yesterday I was there to turn it on for the first time and man it was NICE. The AC unit we got is what he described as "mid tier" running outside it was very quiet - quieter than our portable AC unit we use now at our house! We also have it installed for (i forget the term he used) but basically we can adjust coolness in one area versus another area of the home. It is also energy efficient which is a nice bonus. He will be back to conduct one more test I think the goal is a no more than 5% loss but we're really happy with the pricing, service and quality of work. If you are looking for an AC or HVAC person James is your guy!!! He's licensed and based out of Union City but does work throughout the Bay. read more

Our HVAC furnace blower fan won't stop even the thermostats are off. After several self inspection, it turned out the issue is so complex that I have to call HVAC technician. The reason we hire Lunar Air are: 1. James is working 24/7, and jump in to a call right away before he visit for diagnosis. 2. His inspection and diagnosis are so detailed that itself worth price just for knowing where the issue is. Debugging is much harder than solving it. 3. James is amazing person if you like to learn about HVAC system, since he could always provide info on "ideal system" v.s. "temporary fix", which I appreciate. 4. Very transparent on pricing, cost of parts ...etc. Turn out his service is totally fair given how much work/time he put in. 5. Lunar Air is 10 mins away from my house, James show up quickly and easy to schedule time. Above and beyond: 1. Besides fixing the issue, we also found a few losing cables and screw inside the HVAC and zoning system. James fixed them right away. 2. His passion to root cause and educate customers are rare find. Advise for anyone considering Lunar Air: 1. Be open to work with James, and learn a thing or two about his suggestions. It may sound intimidating sometimes due to the cost of system upgrade or replace. 2. James could dice very deep on explaining issues. But, do your homework on basic HVAC system. Things may look easy as normal user, but do not expect a simple fix of a HVAC issue. 3. Other may charge you a ton to replace bigger parts, but I felt James's transparency and integrity could actually save you time and money eventually. Really happy to have James fix our heater issue. I reached out to Lunar Air Systems because my 2-stage ac was semi-broken. Why semi broken you say? Well, only 1 of the 2 stage works as intended while the other stage is busted. After a few texts, we got on the phone. Over the phone, he got curious about my garage in whether it was added as an addition and the type of home I live in. This is pretty uncommon but I let it slide because I just wanted a good quality technician to come and solve the problem. From his prior reviews, it seemed like a reasonable choice to pay his $99 diagnostic fee. He came after 20 minutes, told me that certain circuits look seemingly burnt and suggested I go with the dual fuel heat pump on the premise that gas price is going to go up throwing out numbers like 30k for the unit while telling me to be careful on people selling them for $12-13k. From those numbers I knew he was looking for a sucker on a payday. Unfortunately for him, I ain't that guy. (Who is going to drop 30k to save a few bucks a month seriously?) Here are the few highlights factually: 1. His AC unit pricing is out of this world. His price is based on a China made ac system that's unheard of. It is not on the top 10 systems used in the US, unknown in their reliability at $11k, twice the cost from another AC/heating guy who uses Carrier, extremely reliable household name, and a top 3 brands here in the US. (I have prospected a total of 4, he is by far the most expensive by a long shot) He supposedly gave me a discount, without it, it would have been 4 times the amount of price from another AC/heating company. In short, crappier product, higher prices. 2. His dual fuel pump is 2-3 times as much as quoted from other AC/heating company. 30k vs 12k. 3. He is dishonest. He told me he can't send me invoices for his inspection over the internet but yet that's what I ultimately receive the invoices from because he wanted to present his cost for me so to pressure me in signing up with him. 4. He has bad intentions. He turned off my AC unit outside of my house and disconnected a wire. When another AC/heating guy came, he was puzzled as why the previous technician would do such a thing to "fix" the ac unit. Lucky me I happen to be a pretty analytical guy and this is not my first rodeo in an AC replacement. I wore a shirt bought from Target and I do not live in Palo Alto, one has to wonder, who lives in this side of town has the type of money he wants to scam out of? Here's my pro tip to you my fellow Yelpers, despite reviews, you need to ALWAYS get a second if not a third opinion. You snooze you loose! read more

Our ac stopped working right in the middle of s heatwave during 4th of july this year. All other companies were telling me they only had availability the coming Monday which was 3 days later. James was able to come in the morning and fix our issue on 4th of July. He saved us in a critical time as it was a holiday and I have 2 little kids. Will be my first call for any HVAC problem They spent 20 minutes texting then speaking on the phone with me while we ran some tests and identified the failed part. Our AC decided to stop cooling 1 day before 4th of July. All places we contacted had no availability. I reached to James on 4th of July and he called back immediately. Came the same day and even earlier than scheduled. Fixed the immediate issue. We plan to have him back to do full service and check up. Very professional and informative. read more

James is so professional, knowledgeable, and responsive. We messaged him at midnight and received a reply at 7 am. He came to our home to fix the AC at noon. He quickly found a bad capacitor on the circuit board in the furnace. He offered a free diagnostic test of our AC to check the health of the system. read more

Our heater gave out just at the beginning of a severe cold snap. Lunar Air was incredibly responsive and knowledgable. They made themselves available any time, day or night to handle our emergency repair. Before starting they presented a clear set of options, including offering to recommend other, less expensive vendors for some services. The work was quick, precise, and done with a special emphasis on my family's safety. They did almost a complete rebuild in a day! I called James because our furnace wasn't turning on anymore. I thought it was the thermostat, so I had gone out to buy one at HD, but was insecure about doing the installation myself. He was very quick to respond and very clear about what my expectations should be upon his service call. He gave me a reasonable price for inspection and installation of the thermostat. But he also indicated that I should let him inspect our furnace just in case it was something else. That caused me concerned because it's never a good sign that it's not going to be something else. And it wasn't. But the thing is James conducted the inspection and told my husband who was standing by everything that was going on, showed him everything that was a problem and also told him about things that were good. The end result was that we needed a new transformer. Not so bad considering it could have been a lot worse. While he was here, he said he would take a look at the thermostat and since we already had the part he would put that in for free. Once he looked at it though, he discovered it wasn't the right one. But the amazing thing is is that he offered to swap it for one that he did have in his truck. A new one. And he continued with his promise to install it for free. I think that is awesome. James is extremely clear with all of the work that he's doing while he's doing it and he stays the distance to make sure that the repair works the way it should. He also instructed us about the fine points of our furnace and he we can better take care of it, which wss news to us. Now we understand it a lot better and we can help it work better by supporting it better. It's been a few days now and the furnace is working great. It's not overworking like it was doing before and it's not under working like it was doing before. We can set the thermostat to the temperature we want and the furnace works to meet that temperature requirement. We can't recommend James enough. He stayed from 6:00 till 8:00 p.m. working in the dark. A very nice man and an extremely hard worker. A+ read more

My water heater turned off after the gas valve turned off. Wife called them as I was in business trip and they charged her $180 to turn on a water heater!!! And yes, the water heater was 6 month old and still under warranty. The technician didn't replace anything and was wondering around for 1 hour. Thieves...Thieves...Thieves read more

When I purchased my condo, the furnace had a crack in the heat exchanger. James did a great job installing a new furnace, thermostat and air scrubber. I have not had a problem with the unit since. I would definitely reach out again for future services. read more

Furnace wasn't heating so called Lunar Air Systems, and it was the best call I could have made. I have had other companies out before but James was knowledgeable and able to show me exactly where the part had failed and how one of the other companies had switch the blower to the wrong setting. I am a pretty technical person so I asked James about optimal settings, board relays, etc.. and he was patient and through in his responses. I also found out that James served in the Marines.
