We had to drive to Lompoc last weekend and we were hungry for breakfast. American Host is definitely a locals spot and the wait showed. 20 min for a table of 2. It's not a fancy place but the staff was friendly, the portions big and food was tasty. If you have the American Host breakfast, be sure you come with a big appetite. I only get to American Host a couple of times a year, but always a solid breakfast complimented by excellent service. They do a good job juggling a steady stream of customers, and the restaurant is always clean. I'm a fan of eggs and sausage, and on at least two occasions the sausage has been near-cold in the middle -- next time I'll be sure to ask them to cook it longer. Otherwise, A-OK and worth a visit. If you want straight down the middle, standard, traditional American breakfast or lunch competently done, American Host is a good choice in Lompoc which means gathering place of water in Native American Chumash language so Lompoc is located on a flood plain. Be sure to have a kayak on hand with the next hundred year flood. One of the very few restaurants open on Labour Day in old town Lompoc while our more sophisticated, targeted restaurant, Sissy's, was closed. American Host offers outdoor dining under canopies & open sided tent during the Pandemic. Hamburger is thick here. Buns are dense, soft, touch sweet, untoasted. Watery Thousand Island dressing which makes the burger drip as you eat it. Patty is big, thick, but seems over processed with little meaty, beefiness and flavour. Crisp iceberg, sliver of red onion, sweet breakfast pickles, melted, creamy jack cheese, lettuce, thin sliced tomato, fully ripe. Lush avocado and smokey, salty, porky bacon both up the flavours of this otherwise bland hamburger. Went for the $2 onion rings option. Glad I did since they were the best beer batter onion rings in many a year. Thin, satisfyingly crispy outer crust while the rest of the fried batter was slightly bready with a touch of sweetness. Onion was moist, caramelized to bring out a lightly funky dulcet tone. Mild Ranch dressing. Next time I will order a whole plate of those oily yet delectable morsels. Ice Tea seemed like a commercial, instant mix which tasted formulated. Competent service. Be sure to go to the front desk inside with your bill to pay so food handlers don't have to touch money or cards. 3+ stars. read more

Gosh, I'm stunned I have not performed a review until now. I've been coming here for years, with friends, family and sometimes business breakfast/lunch meetings. With that said, considering food quality, cleanliness, service and all-around review it's awesome. Of course, there have been the rare occurrences of the gravy could have used a little more seasoning, or I'd like my coffee filled faster, but those were extreme rare moments out of the dozens of times I've come. Found this place while searching the area for a nice breakfast spot. Their menu had breakfast and lunch served until they close. The french toast was okay but very filling! I will also point out that if you were to come here looking for good quality coffee, you might want to just stick to juice... the coffee was pretty meh. American Host came highly recommended by two Lompoc locals (thank you, Kim and Bill.) Breakfast and brunch only, it's your basic American diner menu featuring hamburgers, sandwiches and salads, plus all the standard breakfast basics. Outside dining is available during the pandemic, as well as take-out. The patio was absolutely packed with locals when we visited; American Host clearly has earned a loyal and supportive following in Lompoc. I ordered a half sandwich (tuna on whole wheat, hold the mayo) with a side salad (Italian dressing on the side.) My sandwich was amazing, with flavorful tuna that wasn't overwhelmed with dressing. And the salad itself was really fresh, with individually prepared vegetables and high quality produce. I also sampled one of my friend's onion rings, which was really good. Attention to detail was on point, especially since it was so busy; our server highlighted my No Mayo request in yellow on our order slip so that the chef couldn't miss it. I Love this place and the food we had was pretty killer, I dont think I have ever had but one bad experience here, and now in days thats pretty good i would say. today 08/29/2024 my wife and i had breakfast here, the food again was really good, the service was really good, my only beef for issuing a 3 star is because when i wen to pay my bill, there was a waitress and a hostess at the counter, the waitress looked at me and gave me a beautiful smile, but the cashier the hostess didnt even look up at me, just stuck out her hand, i gave her the bill and the money, no words no look nothing, usually when its the owner Dennis's daughter she always smile and asks right away how was everything? this girl didnt even look like she wanted t be there and made me feel the same, first time i walked up with a smile and it was literally taken away from me, lol. so after a few moments of uncomfortable silence i said yes the food was great so was the service, again she did not even look up just said glad to hear it. look this is pretty minor but it really made me feel i dont know how to say like i didnt matter i dont know, i will apologize to Denis for not reviewing him when thigs were amazing, which instead of taking it for granted i should have praised the American Host. I dont know her name, and wouldn't mention it if i did, but if someone is not ready to deal with the public put them somewhere else until they are ready, a big part of the dining experience is the ambiance, the food and the service, You dont need to kiss my ass but be pleasant, and act like you care if i enjoyed my time there. Ryt now prices are up, so when we are able to go out, we should at least feel like we are appreciated, again i know its a small matter I just didnt expect it from American Host. If you haven't been here yet, you're missing out! I went on Easter Sunday, right as it opened, and because the area had a rocket launch that morning the entire town was out for breakfast! That did NOT stop American Host from being the absolute BEST choice for Easter breakfast!! The service was still decently fast, for being so busy. What a great place! We found this restaurant by a recommendation from a friend who lives locally. We are so pleased we did. Starting with the service, above par, friendly staff and attentive. We each ordered a breakfast dish. I had the linguisa and eggs. I like my eggs over medium and quite often, I get runny whites in my eggs. These eggs were cooked to perfection, the sausage was cooked perfectly and the hash browns were right on point. My husband had the Hotcake deluxe. Hotcakes we're fluffy and moist and addicting good. Again, ordered the eggs over medium and again cooked perfectly. We sat on the patio and they were very happy to accommodate our little dog. Even gave her a chair to lay on. The patio ambiance was nice, open patio and just a wonderful dining experience. Thank you to the staff at American Host. We will definitely be back. After eating here three days in a row during our visit to Lompoc I had to update our review to five stars. The food is as great as you would hope it would be at any restaurant, and the service rocks! There was a line out the door both weekend mornings that we were there and it's not hard to see why, but they have feeding the masses down to a science here and move people through quickly. I usually get the American Host Breakfast which has eggs, potatoes, a meat option, and pancakes. It's my go-to order there and I can't NOT get it! Their orange juice is great and has the right amount of pulp for those who like a natural feel to their orange juice. I've had other options here as well such as the biscuits and gravy and was pleased. Full of flavor, the gravy was not soupy. I was in Lompoc visiting my close friend Fr. John at St. Timothy Antiochian Orthodox Church for old calendar Easter and took my mother to American Host for breakfast. Wow, the next time I come up for a visit I am coming back for breakfast! I had the Elvis Waffles without whipped cream and my mom had the Blueberry Pancakes. I wish I could have heard the server's name though her mask, but everyone inside was having a good time and I felt bad in asking her to repeat herself a couple of times.
