    Breakfast
    Travis P.

I came here with my stay at O'Cairns Inn. Breakfast was free for guests but you could also eat breakfast for like $13 for non guests. They also have happy hour here during the night time and Dinner served. I believe they only serve alcohol to guests but food is available for anyone during the day and night. Food here is very good and the restaurant gives bar vibes. Few games as well such as foosball and a pool table. Sweet!

Since we used to own and run a small business ourselves, we know exactly what that feels like. Despite being shorthanded, the owners were extremely professional and provided excellent service--you would have never known they were understaffed. We ordered the French Toast and the Crunchy French Toast, and both were perfect. The dishes featured delicious, buttery brioche served with cinnamon butter and syrup. We also loved their coffee cups so much that we bought one to take home! If you ever find yourself in Solvang, make it a point to go here for an amazing breakfast.

We had the protein bowl, the pancake combo with Danish pancakes, the Monte Cristo, and the flaky toast. Keep in mind, this was for only two and a half people, and we still had plenty left to take home because the portions are generous. The Monte Cristo was probably the best I've ever had. The flaky toast was incredible and had me wishing I had room for another order. The Danish pancakes were also excellent and definitely worth trying. Another big plus was how family-friendly the restaurant was. We visited on a weekday morning during the summer and only had a short wait, though I can't speak to weekend wait times. The only downside is the service after you're seated. You order at the front counter before being shown to your table, and once your food is delivered, it's not very likely that anyone will check on you. If you need a refill or anything else, you'll probably have to flag someone down. Even with that minor drawback, the food more than made up for it. Fantastic food, generous portions, a welcoming atmosphere, and a great spot for families. I'd happily come back the next time I'm in Solvang.

The staff is very accommodating and gets us in as quickly as possible. It should be noted that at particularly busy times they will stop taking names for parties for an hour to an hour and a half until they get caught up. The staff members are engaging and efficient. It's difficult to recommend a specific dish because everything is good. On this particular occasion, the eggs in my eggs Benedict were over poached, but honestly out of a half dozen breakfasts, this is the only hiccup I've ever experienced. The buttermilk pancakes are very good, but if you've never tried them before, I recommend giving the Danish pancakes, a try; they're very flavorful. You can add fruit to them, typically cinnamon apples are enjoyed by my family, but you can also have them just with butter and syrup.

Unfortunately, my experience started off on the wrong foot. When my coffee arrived, I noticed what looked like lipstick on the rim of the cup. At first I thought it might just be a stain, but when I touched it, it smeared. Pretty gross, especially for a $4.50 cup of coffee that was very mediocre. The portion sizes were generous, but the food wasn't anything memorable. I ordered the Solvang Danish-style sausage with eggs, hash browns, and an English muffin. I did appreciate that the English muffin was buttered, but the sausage was underwhelming and didn't have anything special about it. My husband ordered Paula's Special with Danish pancakes and warm cinnamon apples. He usually loves pancakes, but he also thought they were just okay. I actually liked the thin Danish pancakes, but I'm not much of a sweets-for-breakfast person. The service also left something to be desired. I found it odd that I had to ask for a water refill instead of it being offered. When I asked for water, the server smiled and nodded but never brought any. I asked again, thinking maybe she hadn't heard me. She returned with a cup full of ice, so I had to ask a third time before I finally got water. Overall, while the restaurant is popular and serves large portions, I don't really understand the hype. Between the mediocre food, the lipstick on the coffee cup, and the inattentive service, it wasn't an experience I'd be eager to repeat.

Delicious. 2) The loaf of bread w/ bacon (lardon maybe?)-- had it with a sandwich or something and brought a loaf home the first trip. My household and I wish I had bought 5 loaves. Excellent. Sad they did not have it this visit. 3) Egg in jar and egg in frame- excellent reviews from whoever in our group ordered them. (I didnt have them but hope to next visit.) Outdoor seating/large patio is great. The not so great is totally outshined by the good, but will mention in case you're on the fence about what to get. -The sweets/baked goods in the display are maybe average, since I don't recall what I had from the first trip- but remembered not being crazy about it, so I thought I'd play it safe with 2 big cookies. Chocolate chunk cookie was good- a solid choice if you love a lot of chocolate. Pistachio shortbread cookie: I'd remove it from the menu. It tastes neither like pistachio nor shortbread (which is disappointing since I love both). It also had rosemary or something herb-y that I wasn't expecting- and wouldn't be opposed to anyway- but the cookie was a total miss. Service: super upbeat and fantastic in Feb. Tepid but fine this week. I want to give it 5 stars despite the items I didn't love. Because 5 months later- all I could think about was Lavender Fog and bacon bread loaf. But I know I wasn't crazy about 40-50% of what I tried so far. And that pistachio cookie was a pretty solid fail. I'll def be back and hope both my faves plus egg in jar are still there!

Sunday mornings are meant to be leisurely but this time we were in a rush. We had actually slept in until 7am, normally up by 5am without alarms. We both decided the first item on the menu we would try; Orcut Hash, did sourdough toast and homemade biscuit We had just a couple minutes to sit and order iced tea to go. Before the server could get us our iced teas our food was ready. It's super cute inside...can't wait to come back and enjoy the sit down restaurant. Staff was super friendly and welcoming. Large alcoholic choice of drinks... really wanted that spicy Mary but since we were in a rush stuck with iced tea. The only 1 minute drive back to the gun range in Santa Maria was grueling smelling that gravy... We were both were thrilled at the large portions. It was amazing! I love gravy and could have used a little bit more but honestly I think it was fine for a normal person plus remember we go to go order so I suspect it soaked up a little on the drive. The staff threw in pepper and Tapatio which the hubs loves. I had Yellow Bird Blue Agave Sriracha in my travel trailer and used a little on it. OMG! It was so good! The potatoes had a nice crunch on them. That gravy was amazing. The biscuit was great, had a bite and saved the rest for later. The hubs managed to eat his whole plate and was stuffed! I might have eaten 1/4 of mine saving it for later. We will for sure be back!
