My parents and I were in town for the long weekend and we came to eat to this restaurant two days in a row for breakfast. We came on a Saturday and Sunday for breakfast and both days the wait wasn't too long. They currently only offer outdoor patio seating due to Covid-19 restrictions. On Saturday, our waitress was absolutely great. Kept checking on us and made sure we had what we needed. The food on both days was really good. We each tried different plates both days. The reason for not giving this place 5 stars is because our service on Sunday the second day was below average. It was night and day compared to the previous day. The waitress on Sunday came to drop our food and never returned to check on us except to give us the bill. We had to flag other servers or table busters to get coffee refills or other items we needed. Other than having a bit of a hiccup with the service on Sunday, I totally recommend this place. We stayed in Lompoc for the harvest festival and we're looking for a good breakfast. Yelp reviews were good so we checked it out. The first thing I look for in a breakfast place on the road is whether locals or tourists eat there. This place is definitely local, a good sign. We got seated right away but timed it perfectly since others who arrived just after us waited a long time. Great coffee mugs. Kind of diner-y but a bit larger. Coffee was okay but not great. I got corned beef hash and sunny side up eggs with hash browns and biscuits. Eggs were cooked perfectly - another good sign - but the hash was clearly from a can. I could get the same hash at Denny's. Homemade salsa on the side was hot and good. Biscuits were more cake-y than flake-y. My wife got blueberry pancakes with a side of bacon. Pancakes were a bit dry but blueberries were fresh. Bacon was nice and thick, with a nice smoky flavor and a generous portion for a side. Service was fine and the prices were fair. Overall a nice experience. Nothing really surprising or outstanding here, but American basics done well. read more

This place is always busy, and in my judgment is the best place in town for breakfast. The only drawback I am aware of is that you cannot get butter for your waffles or pancakes, only margarine is available. Other than that this is a fine place. Tiny place in town but great food. The Garbage Pail omelette has shrunk a little in size but still yummy. The staff seem friendly 99% of the time too. Grab a seat outside if it's a mild day rather than inside. Always quieter and typically you won't have to wait the 20-40 min for a seat inside. It's always so loud you can't talk to the person next to you without yelling. Also. The water is from the tap(or their filter is broke). Beware of the Lompoc water. Yuck! read more

We ate here for breakfast on 6/25/11 at about 10 am while the flower parade was going on. It was busy but we were seated right away by a friendly hostess who brought us coffee soon after. This place reminds me of a typical diner you'd find in a small town - oh! It is!! Lots of locals, great food, reasonable prices - a true piece of Americana! I had the french toast deluxe combo which included 2 pieces of thick cinnamon raisin french toast, 2 eggs, 2 big plump and juicy sausages for $7.50. My hubby got the waffle deluxe combo which included a large belgian waffle, 2 eggs, and 4 pieces of big crisp bacoon for $7.50. The waffle AND the french toast were worth the price by themselves. Yum-O!! I only gave 4 stars because of the 40 cent charge when we used our debit card, but I guess it is no big deal. If I could give 4.5 stars, I would. We will definitely be going back to this great little diner! read more

Some coworkers of mine suggested this breakfast spot. So when my stepdad came into town to visit and wanted to get breakfast, I figured we would give it a shot. My bf ordered the "American host breakfast" for 10.99 he got 4 pancakes, 2 eggs, bacon, sausage, hashbrowns. He devoured almost the whole thing, but had to tap out of the last two pancakes. My stepdad ordered an omelette with all sorts of cheese, meats, and peppers, hashbrowns, English muffins, and added a 1/2 side of French toast. He also enjoyed his meal and ate damn near all of it. According to him they "cook an omelette right" because it was still fluffy and yellow which means they slow cook them. I opted out of breakfast today and ordered some chicken strips lol. But they were also super yummy! Now for service, I didn't catch her name, but she was taking care of the patio tables this morning as well as some inside. I could tell she was super busy, running all over the place, but she was very fast, efficient, and did her best to keep our drinks filled. On a slower shift I'd bet the service would be even better. Nice little restaurant. The inside needs a huge upgrade. You're literally walking into a thrift store. Food is a good portion. It can come to your table kinda cold. I noticed it sits at the pick up table for awhile. I don't know how often the guys cooking wash their hands. I do see them handle many things at a time. The waitresses are a hit and miss. That's how we ended up at the American Host Restaurant. My husband ordered the Corned Beef Hash and eggs, and I ordered a two-egg omelet filled with Swiss cheese, spinach and yellow bell peppers. Both plates came with home fries seasoned perfectly and TWO large biscuits freshly baked and served hot with butter and jam. The biscuits just melted in our mouth. Was on a road trip and wife and I wanted some breakfast. This place pulled up on yelp, and what a gem close to where we were staying. Very friendly staff and food was excellent. Wife had the corn beef hash which was delicious (I just had to try them) and I had the Govita cheesy gravy biscuits with ham and eggs. Never had anything like it and I highly recommend it. My roommate and I ordered breakfast for pickup because she really loves American Host, but this was my first time eating there. I ordered the spinach scramble with whole wheat toast and home fries. It all tasted fine, but the juices from the egg scramble (mushrooms and spinach always produce a lot of juice) had already soaked my home fries so they we just too soft and wet for my liking. I also felt like they severely lacked flavor, but maybe that's just me. I also threw away the toast because it was overdone and hard as a rock by the time I got it. Granted, I understand most of these things are due to my order being takeout so maybe just don't order takeout from here? Ultimately, the food was nothing special and did not make up for the fact that it was either too wet or too dry. read more

We visited on a Wednesday morning around 930am. The restaurant was very busywhich was surprising to me being the middle of the work week. I ordered one of the breakfast specials. Eggs, bacon, and pancakes. The eggs were good but dense. I prefer a lighter fluffier egg. Bacon and pancakes were good. The staff was very friendly and efficient.
