Ellen did offer to mail me a $6.00 check, but wanted to talk with the accountant first. $6.00 does not accurately reflect the actual value, nor adhere to the standards outlined in the DRYCLEANING & LAUNDRY INSTITUTE (DLI) FAIR CLAIMS GUIDE. For me this AC does a good job. I primarily use them for my shirts and slacks. I'll admit when it comes to my clothes, I'm high maintenance. I separate my shirts in separate piles, for different starch levels and those shirts I want dry cleaned. They've never gotten them mixed up and they are always done well. I also bring in all of my dress and casual slacks. On occasion, I have brought in jeans to have them heavily starched. As I've stated before, I wish they'd do a light starch on my Docker's. When needed, they've also done an excellent job on my suits and sport coats. AC use to only take cash or check and now they take debit and credit cards. To be honest, this use to be the only place I wrote checks. Being someone who does a lot of dry cleaning, I am thankful they send out coupons on the regular. Got alterations completed for a replacement for a zipper . This is the sloppiest alteration I have ever had in my life ,Geesh . My dress is has also been sewn back together so unevenly . Don't trust the negative reviews! American Cleaners is a kind and satisfactory establishment. They have removed the toughest stains from my clothes including engine oil and chocolate. I. AM. FURIOUS!!! I've only had clothing cleaned 3 times from American Cleaners (2 of the 3 times I dropped off sweaters). Both times my sweaters were ruined!!!!! And both times I REITERATED more than once to NOT HANG MY SWEATERS!!!! They assured me that it will not happen. Ask me what happened??? THEY HUNG THEM!!! Terrible costumer service and poor cleaning. I brought four blouses into there store. Three came back damaged with new stains, and one with subpar cleaning. The store front told me conflicting policies then costumer service, and still made me pay for it. Ruin a shirt and still make you pay for the cleaning. Talked to John on the phone and he said that I could send my clothes to costumer service to be "reassessed", but can't solve any problems or give any refunds. Shirts could be returned in 5-7 days. Terrible service, poor policies, uneducated store front, lack of knowledge/through cleaning. I will never. EVER. Come to this cleaners again. I dropped off 2 formal dresses on Saturday, and arranged to pick them up the following week. Over the weekend, my cleaner ticket got lost, thrown away, dog ate it...etc. who knows?? That, I'll admit, is totally my bad. I was irresponsible. However, when I arrived at the cleaners on Tuesday (to an empty building except for employees) and explained that I didn't have my ticket, the woman looked at me like I spit in her face. I was apologetic, but it didn't seem to matter. The response I got was a very nasty, "Well, we're really busy. I'll have to look through all the clothes." Busy? There's not a single person here??? I asked if they organize them in any other way. Alphabetically or by phone number? I gave both my name and my number when dropping the items off. Apparently not. After waiting about 25 minutes for her to look and periodically check out other patrons who had their tickets, which I was totally ok with, she found my garments. I apologized again and thanked her, but the only other words she said to me was "That'll be $23.50." I gave her the money and she took it, deposited it in the register, turned around, and walked away. I have NEVER experienced worse customer service. Yes, I understand it was my fault for forgetting my ticket, but the attitude and rudeness I received in return was seriously uncalled for. I gave them 2 stars because a.) I actually got my clothes back, thankfully, and b.) they were clean Even though this place is convenient location-wise, I will absolutely never go back. Ugh. Have all the dry-cleaners in STL banded together to be equally unappealing? My biggest complaint is that they don't take credit cards. Or debit cards. Or checks. Cash only. Which I hardly understand, given that anywhere from the dollar store to McDonald's will take them no problem. Heck even my lawn guy does, and I can pay online to boot! First and last time I go to American Cleaners. My dress was damaged and had to be sent off for repair, and I was still charged full price for the cleaning of it. Even though my phone number was taken down when the dress was sent off for repair, I had to call two weeks later to see if the dress was in. Tammy (sp?) answered the phone, and when it took me 20 seconds to retrieve my ticket, she rudely said "Listen, ma'am I have another call." And abruptly hung up on me. LADIES: This "dry cleaner" will LAUNDER your clothing if they possibly can (presumably they'll dry clean, say, cashmere, silk, etc., but I wouldn't count on it). They ruined an expensive black-and-tan shirt of mine (which was obviously a ladies garment--not that a man would want a faded shirt, either). It's gray and nubbly now, not black and smooth. I didn't wear it right away after I got it back, and by then I had no receipt or ticket number. Then my husband dropped off a dress of mine along with his shirts. It was a pretty red-plaid shirtdress that I really liked. And a dry cleaner wouldn't launder a dress, would they?? People always overreact on their reviews, but I just had a very nice, tailored blue dress shirt ruined by this place and they essentially washed their hands of it. The collar was burned and its now unwearable. Their customer service said there was something on the collar like aftershave or cologne that when heated it drains the color out and cant be fixed. I dont wear either of those things, and isnt the point of taking your clothes to a cleaner to be CLEANED? They didnt offer any type of compensation for this either, even though when i took it in it was fine, when i got it back its unwearable. They forget that they are in the customer service business, and there are several other options in the area. When I took it back in the person behind the counter said they would send it to their customer care department and they would either get it out or they would call me. Well no one called so when I went to pick it up, assuming it was fixed, it was still stained with the initial stains PLUS a huge water stain! After calling their customer care line (who was extremely nice), she said she hadn't even heard of me or seen my dress which means they didn't even send it off, but just tried to get it out on their own!!! I went to this location on Tuesday the 22nd of October, 2013 at 3:10pm.. When I got there I discovered that I forgot one of my tickets. There was three attendants there. One who was sitting down. I gave the young lady the information she requested about the forgotten ticket and she told me that she did not have time to look for it. I did not understand because there was two others there and they said they did not have time also. One star may be a to high of a rating for this place. While the customer service may be friendly here, I can't exactly say their cleaning practices are competent. I brought in a delicate beaded sweater in excellent condition that I have only worn a handful of times over the past couple years. I made them very aware that this was a fragile garment and that I understood it required more care and that I knew I would pay more than the standard "plain garment" coupon price. Despite this, they not only ruined my garment (it was returned with the beading unraveling and the material, well, practically disintegrated) they did not even make mention of the damage when I picked it up, nor after speaking to customer service was I offered ANY COMPENSATION WHATSOEVER. I wasn't even given an apology. Awful service all around. DON"T BRING ANYTHING OF ANY VALUE here if you want it to come back in the condition you dropped it off in. read more
