The Clockman - Clock movement

The Clockman

At first Cesar was responsive. And then getting an appointment became impossible. He would…read morepromise to get back to me and never did. Finally, he just ignored my calls. I found another firm that was quick to respond and did the job. I would not recommend The Clockman.

I chose this person because of the rating and response from people. Unfortunately, the experience…read morewas not that great. When we first started talking and attempt to set up an appointment for a time. I was told any time after 11am. So I showed up around 230ish and no one was home. So he tells me he on a service call and his wife will be back in 20 min. Or so. So after coming back I met his wife to do a drop off. She told me that her husband will contact me with in a week or maybe less. Well a week went by and no answer. So I called the guy wanting to see where he was at with the clock. He tells me he on a service call and he'll call me back in 2 hours. Two hours went by and no call back so I waited. Another week goes by without a peep from him (now 2 weeks in) so I call again to see were he at with the clock if he even look at it yet. he tells me that he busy on another service call and he'll have the estimate the next day around 6-7 pm I said okay and waited. And of course the next day came and no respond. Yet again another week goes by without a peep from him. So three week has gone by and I had gotten no answer from him if looked at the clock, on what's wrong with the clock, what it will take to fix the clock, how much it would cost, and how long it will take. Nothing at this point, I still haven't even met this guy yet either. I get it if he's busy but communicate that with the person. Maybe actually be there to meet the person at the beginning And don't tell people you're going to do something and not communicate. You made me feel like I just gave a con man my property. The only good thing was I was able to get my clock back without a problem.

This is the best clock and watch repair business I have found. Other so-called 5-star services…read moredon't return calls like Chicago Clock does. I smile when I read "unfriendly" in a review of CCC. They may not have the smiling style of the other places, they just have pure competent substance. They also may not be the "low price leader" in quoting a repair. But they guarantee any repair. I just brought in to them a 6 month old watch that had a hard-to-turn crown. I had taken it first to another place that told me they fixed it but that it was corroded and needed some winding to loosen it up. I discovered it was a quartz watch that needed no winding. The place unscrupulously had charged me $68 for the so-called repair. Chicago opened it up for me while I was there and found a gnarly rubber gasket that I had probably messed up myself trying to wind a battery powered watch. The technician should rightly have called me an idiot but instead just fixed it in 2 minutes, He did not want to charge me anything. I insisted on giving him at least a $20 tip which he reluctantly but appreciatively accepted. This is the kind of business I respect and will patronize again and again going forward.

I stopped here to get a watch battery replaced. I'd never been to this store before and have always…read morewanted to stop by - this was my chance. There was someone there already getting a watch battery replaced. So, while waiting, I walked around admiring their clocks and watches. They have quite a selection - great if you need a nice clock for yourself or as a gift. I took some pictures and a short video and posted them for you to see. When it was my turn, he took the watch and went in the back. It didn't take much more than five minutes for him to return with the watch working again! And the price was very reasonable, under $20. Fun store with good service.

My grandmother's Ridgeway Clock (with the bing bong chimes) wasn't responding to lubrication…read moreanymore. It would just stop after around 15 minutes. This dates to the late 1960's or early 1970's. We ran into Tick-Tock at the Oregon (city) Market, which is held at the High School. I ran home, packed up my clock and brought it to them. Then came the call - it would be until July before he could get to it, but knew what was wrong - the bearings were all worn out. The guy who does the work was trained by the experts years ago to work on clocks like this, so we waited the 4 months for the call. We finally got it, and picked up the clock. Some tips: If you are going to ship your clock, use plastic bags from grocery stores to immobilize the mechanism / chains. This doesn't leave any residue behind (like the foam I used, which had to be cleaned off). Bring everything - the owner ran our clock for 2 weeks after he repaired it to make sure it would work when we got it home. The clock was packed well, the weights were double-wrapped in foam and bubble wrap, and the pendulum was encased in cardboard to prevent it from being damaged. The owner even included a small level (which I used and my clock was level). It's been running perfectly for 6 hours so I'm sure he's got it fixed and fixed correctly. It's also quieter than it was before, which I guess is because the bearings are all new and lubed properly. The repair person provided a card with a 2 year lubrication frequency as well. The price was exactly what was agreed to. No complaints, and I'm glad to have my grandmother's clock working again in my home. It sounds so nice. Now to address some comments: What clock repair place doesn't carry spare parts? A sane one. Do you understand how many different clocks there are in the world? Millions. Knowing where to find the parts is important, keeping parts on hand for even the most common clocks would take a huge warehouse and millions of dollars. I work on arcade games and pinball machines. I have 5 boxes of parts, so far I have been able to use 2 chips out of a $1000 inventory. Is that wise? Nope. Why does it take so long? Because this isn't McDonalds. It's a one or two person shop, and they work on stuff as it comes in. Ask up front, if you don't like the wait, go somewhere else.

Thank you Tick-Tock Clock. Your service and professionalism is appreciated. Quality!!read more

I received a beautiful grandmother clock (a little bit smaller then a grandfather clock) and was…read moregiven high estimates from other companies right here on YELP. So I decided to give him a try. And I am so ecstatic that I did. I made the appointment and within a few days he contacted me to let me know he was on his way. He came in during this crazy pandemic and was very careful with mask and social distancing, for this i am very appreciative as I have an elderly mom at home. He came and dismantled the clock precisely and with great care. And it only took 45 minutes and worth every penny! He even told me the history of this particular clock and I am glad he is so knowledgeable in regards to clocks. He let me know he's been doing this for over 20 years and that says a lot. I can appreciate workmanship and precision. This is definitely a lost craft and I am going to keep his business card as i am convinced I will be purchasing another clock in the near future. If you need more info, don't hesitate to sent me a message as I think this review is not quite complete. Although I think i put in the important aspects. He is a really nice guy to do business with and again, i HIGHLY recommend him as he did come out to my house to do the initial fixing and completed it in 45 minutes. A lot faster then I originally thought. Please make sure that you make an appointment with him as it is by appointment only and his time is valuable. Haha I couldn't resist the joke, but in all seriousness, he is defintley a rarity when it comes to clock repair. And he was very honest about one of my other time pieces that he said would not be worth seeing since it was a newer mantle clock and would not even be attempted. I love honesty and that is a plus in my book.
