My grandmother's Ridgeway Clock (with the bing bong chimes) wasn't responding to lubrication…read moreanymore. It would just stop after around 15 minutes. This dates to the late 1960's or early 1970's. We ran into Tick-Tock at the Oregon (city) Market, which is held at the High School. I ran home, packed up my clock and brought it to them. Then came the call - it would be until July before he could get to it, but knew what was wrong - the bearings were all worn out. The guy who does the work was trained by the experts years ago to work on clocks like this, so we waited the 4 months for the call. We finally got it, and picked up the clock. Some tips: If you are going to ship your clock, use plastic bags from grocery stores to immobilize the mechanism / chains. This doesn't leave any residue behind (like the foam I used, which had to be cleaned off). Bring everything - the owner ran our clock for 2 weeks after he repaired it to make sure it would work when we got it home. The clock was packed well, the weights were double-wrapped in foam and bubble wrap, and the pendulum was encased in cardboard to prevent it from being damaged. The owner even included a small level (which I used and my clock was level). It's been running perfectly for 6 hours so I'm sure he's got it fixed and fixed correctly. It's also quieter than it was before, which I guess is because the bearings are all new and lubed properly. The repair person provided a card with a 2 year lubrication frequency as well. The price was exactly what was agreed to. No complaints, and I'm glad to have my grandmother's clock working again in my home. It sounds so nice. Now to address some comments: What clock repair place doesn't carry spare parts? A sane one. Do you understand how many different clocks there are in the world? Millions. Knowing where to find the parts is important, keeping parts on hand for even the most common clocks would take a huge warehouse and millions of dollars. I work on arcade games and pinball machines. I have 5 boxes of parts, so far I have been able to use 2 chips out of a $1000 inventory. Is that wise? Nope. Why does it take so long? Because this isn't McDonalds. It's a one or two person shop, and they work on stuff as it comes in. Ask up front, if you don't like the wait, go somewhere else.

I smile when I read "unfriendly" in a review of CCC. They may not have the smiling style of the other places, they just have pure competent substance. They also may not be the "low price leader" in quoting a repair. But they guarantee any repair. I just brought in to them a 6 month old watch that had a hard-to-turn crown. I had taken it first to another place that told me they fixed it but that it was corroded and needed some winding to loosen it up. I discovered it was a quartz watch that needed no winding. The place unscrupulously had charged me $68 for the so-called repair. Chicago opened it up for me while I was there and found a gnarly rubber gasket that I had probably messed up myself trying to wind a battery powered watch. The technician should rightly have called me an idiot but instead just fixed it in 2 minutes, He did not want to charge me anything. I insisted on giving him at least a $20 tip which he reluctantly but appreciatively accepted. This is the kind of business I respect and will patronize again and again going forward.

It's been in the…read morefam for three generations and it needed a cleaning to take out that ancient whale oil gunk (I'm not kidding, but remember it was 70 years ago), oiling the movement, and adjustments as needed. He also replaced the mainspring just as a matter of course (which he said he was going to do, and indeed, as Omega always does when you send the watch to them, no matter what). He quoted a figure, I gave him a deposit, and he gave me a date of two weeks out (which is awesome for a C/O/A job on a 140-part movement). I later phoned in that I wanted an Omega buckle on the new wrist strap. He tracked one down! And the balance? Exactly what he promised, even though he replaced a part that he didn't initially see was faulty. He returned all the replaced parts to me. This man took care of this watch as if it were his own. Next up for him is my grandmother's mantel clock. If you take a glance around his shop, you'll see the man knows a thing or two about mantel clocks as well. I 100% got my money's worth from this experience.

One watch was repaired, the second was returned unrepaired--both were shipped back together. The package arrived empty, and both watches were lost while in transit under their control. While they refunded the repair fee, they have refused to provide reimbursement for the loss of my property. Instead, they attempted to substitute a random replacement watch from their inventory, which I declined. My original items--one of which held significant sentimental value--were not interchangeable. More concerning is their handling of the claim: The shipment was insured for $600, which matched the verbal appraisal provided by their associate prior to authorizing the repair, yet they attempt to minimize the value after the fact I was informed by FedEx that their claim was denied, and they have not provided a clear explanation or supporting documentation Responsibility has been deflected rather than addressed, leaving me no choice but to pursue legal remedies At no point did I control the shipping, carrier, or insurance--this was entirely managed by their business, despite all shipping costs being passed on to the customer. The loss occurred while the watches were in their custody, yet they have not taken full accountability. Losing a customer's property is serious. Failing to resolve it fairly is unacceptable. We were always told that he was still looking for a part to repair them. Eventually the St. Charles store closed, yet we were never notified. We were told that everything was moved to the Elgin store. Now when we call, we are told that he has not yet found the music boxes, because of the move. This is now September 2026, and he has still not found our music boxes. This is ridiculous! We just want our music boxes back at this point, but we are at the mercy of this incompetent business. We would not recommend bringing anything of value or anything you cherish to American Black Forrest Clocks.
