Jefferson Golden Hour Mystery clock. 24k gold plated from 1953 made in Bellwood IL.
    Robert B.

I brought in a Jefferson Golden Hour clock for an estimate. I knew what the issue was. The glass needed to be glued to the gear ring. When its not attached the clock will run fast. They told me that it was a $325 job and I would need a new motor since its running fast, tension springs and friction pads and it would take 3 weeks to repair. You can purchase a reconditioned one for less that $200. I paid $75 for this one. Thankfully I educated myself on the 1953 clock before I went in and decided to try and do the job myself. I spent $30 on the glue. (Special 3M 847 adhesive.) Since I was going to try the repair myself I ordered new parts that go in the chapter ring. The tension springs $3.50 friction pads $1. There was nothing wrong with the motor it was noted in the base that it was replaced in 1979. The clock ran fine only after about 24 hours it would be about 10 minutes fast because the glass was just flopping around in the frame. If I needed a new motor its a $53 part. Thanks to YouTube I opened it up and did the repairs myself in about an hour and a half. Did some minor cleaning on the chapter ring because the previous owner lubricated it. YOU NEVER LUBRICATE A JEFFERSON CLOCK.. Its keeping perfect time now. Take the time and educate yourself before you look into repairs. Chicago Clock has some beautiful clocks in their showroom. The young lady at the counter was nice.

Update to my previous review. Jason and I made contact and he apologized for the interactions I had and provided a detailed explanation why I was told the pendulum repair was more complicated than my original quote. Jason was incredibly helpful, had us drop off the pendulum when he would be at their Claredon Hills location so he could personally assist. They repaired the pendulum the same day and now our Mora clock is ticking and tocking like it did in the 1870s. Thanks for your professionalism and understanding Jason!

Did great job on a special hand-crafted and artist signed clock! Small clock was bought on our honeymoon in Door County 40 years ago.

They looked at my watch and offered to call me with an estimate to fix my WW II watch. Easy to work with and decent price.

Went in to get a watch sized. Not the friendliest but quick and efficient. Only $10, and in and out in five minutes.

No refunds. No refunds. No refunds. You'd think a retail store would be about trying to make the customer happy. Nope.

It had been stored away for twenty years but Tick-Tock got it back into excellent shape. This dates to the late 1960's or early 1970's. We ran into Tick-Tock at the Oregon (city) Market, which is held at the High School. I ran home, packed up my clock and brought it to them. Then came the call - it would be until July before he could get to it, but knew what was wrong - the bearings were all worn out. The guy who does the work was trained by the experts years ago to work on clocks like this, so we waited the 4 months for the call. We finally got it, and picked up the clock. Some tips: If you are going to ship your clock, use plastic bags from grocery stores to immobilize the mechanism / chains. This doesn't leave any residue behind (like the foam I used, which had to be cleaned off). Bring everything - the owner ran our clock for 2 weeks after he repaired it to make sure it would work when we got it home. The clock was packed well, the weights were double-wrapped in foam and bubble wrap, and the pendulum was encased in cardboard to prevent it from being damaged. The owner even included a small level (which I used and my clock was level). It's been running perfectly for 6 hours so I'm sure he's got it fixed and fixed correctly. It's also quieter than it was before, which I guess is because the bearings are all new and lubed properly. The repair person provided a card with a 2 year lubrication frequency as well. The price was exactly what was agreed to. No complaints, and I'm glad to have my grandmother's clock working again in my home. It sounds so nice. Now to address some comments: What clock repair place doesn't carry spare parts? A sane one. Do you understand how many different clocks there are in the world? Millions. Knowing where to find the parts is important, keeping parts on hand for even the most common clocks would take a huge warehouse and millions of dollars. I work on arcade games and pinball machines. I have 5 boxes of parts, so far I have been able to use 2 chips out of a $1000 inventory. Is that wise? Nope. Why does it take so long? Because this isn't McDonalds. It's a one or two person shop, and they work on stuff as it comes in. Ask up front, if you don't like the wait, go somewhere else.
