I recently been taking lots of cross-country trips and have flown on different airlines and in my opinion, American is the worst one of all. First of all, their seats don't have TVs, and the only entertainment option you have on a long flight is to log into their Wi-Fi and watch something on your phone. Second, their legroom is probably one of the worst across the major airlines. If the person in front of you reclines their seat, you are stuck. I am 5'9" and the back of the chair in front of me hit my knees for the whole flight across the country. Third, their planes are filthy. Sure they come through and wipe down the seats, but the ceilings and overhead bins were filthy and stained. Overall, there are better choices to fly cross-country, and I would not go out of my way to fly on American again. read more

We used AA for flying to Chicago as well as returning to Miami. Everything went well and our flights took off on time. No complaints. No.incidents. We were on an AirBus each way and they are more comfortable than the Boeing 737. There's an inch more in roominess in the seating area. The flight attendants were friendly and we received the delicious Biscoff cookie with our coffee. We had purchased snacks at Hudson's anyways so all was good. read more

Never had an issue with American Airlines, but the issue we had yesterday was no one's fault. We arrived at O'Hare Airport, and our connecting flight was on time. We even all got on the plane. But a few minutes later we had to de-board cuz our plane ended up being decommissioned. The flight was rescheduled to the following morning, but AA put everyone up in a hotel room with a few choices, along with a meal voucher to use at the airport. There is also a shuttle that will take you to the hotel, and back to the airport. Unfortunately in all of this, everyone's checked bags were left at the airport. Which is why I always keep some clothing, undergarments, and everything I would need in case my luggage gets lost or inaccessible. AA did accommodate everyone and sent an email apologizing for the inconvenience. And it was all very inconvenient, but I'm always ready for these kinda of things. If I come across another issue like this, I hope it's through AA, cuz I know they'll take care of us in these situations. read more

Flying home this morning, pre check everything ok, flight On time, etc. Get to gate, plenty of time. Gate changed -had to move, delays in boarding twice. Get on the flight , over booked, seating starts they ask for pre board but no announcement for individual with handicapped or extra time they call first class, plane boards, no drinks available in first class until we get in the air because they are late. People from coach putting there stuff in the bins reserved for business and first class that you paid for with your fare. While flight attends stand around chewing the fat doing nothing but then start telling people to put bags in any space available so people from coach can move your bags around that you paid for with your fare for the bins above the seat, also allowing more than one carry on and several over the size limit. Services and recent AA news reports indicate AA got issues. Meal was not very appetizing, somehow a menu change ; was supposed to be Mac -n-cheese, switched to baked potato, short rib is supposed to have sauce, don't know what happened to the salad- didn't eat any of it looked unappetizing to me read more

Flew out on a 26 year old 737 the other day and it was a lackluster experience. My flight to SFO was delayed 3+ hours due to runway construction at SFO along with low ceilings impacting arrivals. Interestingly enough, the AA flight scheduled after mine left before mine?!? Once we were all on board, the pilots informed us of the situation and that our departure was scheduled in an hour and we would just be taxing on the runway for an hour?!? Once up in the air, the beverage cart came through midway through the flight along with a little bit of snacks. Some of the more junior cabin crew were talented and cordial. #GenZvibes Cabin attendants wore xl gloves. I received 5 notifications throughout the day from AA informing me of the continuous delays for my flight which was interesting. Domestic carriers hit differently than Asian carriers. Though Delta is the airline I use most frequently, American is quite often my second choice. Customer service on and off the plane is always professional, courteous, and accommodating. When flying in and out of this locale, I've never had any major issues. read more

ill be honest, in not a big fan of american airlines when it comes to airline carriers. I just find that i have more issues with them vs other airlines when it comes to ticketing, on time flights, etc. I would much prefer Delta becuase i also get lounge access with my american express card. Also, i find Delta to be more consistent in terms of being on-time. For work, I dont have a choice, its basically whatever is the lower cost carrier is what is recommended to take. Our flight from Chicago to Seattle was on a Boeing 737 with 157 passengers - 4 crew and 2 pilots. Our flight attendants were Sherri and Lisa, who took excellent care of us. We were in First Class - the seats were very comfortable. What was not comfortable was the temperature of the plane. We were cold the entire 4 hours plus flight. We asked many times for more heat and the flight attendants crew tried, but to no avail. Surprisingly, there were no blankets on board. They did start us of with offers of drinks - we had diet cokes with warm nuts. We had pre-ordered our lunch, which was excellent. We had Beef Wellington, asparagus, roasted potatoes, carrots, turnips, fresh garden salad with grapes, apple and cheese with a balsamic, vinegar dressing and a pecan pie for dessert. read more

Waiting on a plane from the hanger the full crew is here along with all the passengers. We have been told plane is coming still waiting o er an hour now. I had a connecting flight out of the Chicago O'Hare airport. I was in a larger plane before. This one is slightly smaller and older. Chicago seemed a little busier than usual. We were in and seated on time. We were in line waiting for traffic to clear so we could taxi out. That was about ten minutes it seemed. The seat was comfortable. The cargo storage above was a lot smaller on this plane. I was thankful for the two seats instead of the three seats! If you have to get up, it's much easier to!! There's a plug in to charge your phone/laptop top. Overall, another pleasant flight. The flight staff were all very friendly and helpful. We also received refreshments on this flight. Full sized Coke and cookies. I will use this airline, again. So far, flights were on time. I'm still a little unsure of their luggage policies when booking flights and such. However, thankfully, I am a small carryon packer!! read more

I travel via American Airlines almost exclusively for business travel, but ona. Recent trip from Ohare to Madison, I went with AA as they are one of the only directs to the Madison Regional Airport. The flight was about 33 minutes long, and was as expected, with no issues. I took a later evening flight, boarding process was standard and efficient. Since it was a regional airport, all bags had to be curbside checked and delivered upon landing. This process was without issue as well. Staff is always hit and miss with American, whether it be gate agents or flight attendants. In this case, both were okay. Nothing awful or exceptional. Same goes for the planes. This particular plane had limited airflow, which would have been a bigger issue had the flight been longer. Overall, this was a fairly standard AA experience. read more

Big surprise the rating is so low. This airline is total trash. Stay away. Nothing but bad experiences every time I fly. In this particular airport. They came over the radio and told us the plane occupying our gate had an indefinite maintenance issue. And we were going to have to just wait until they figured it out. And then they changed the gate for the fourth time. Ineptitude is their motto. STAY AWAY! read more

Extremely disappointing experience My checked luggage was stolen directly from baggage claim, and dealing with American Airlines afterward has been an absolute nightmare. I went through the entire process they required: filed a police report, submitted a lost/stolen baggage claim with American, tracked down receipts for the items in my bag, and painstakingly provided an itemized list of everything they requested. After all of that, American Airlines offered me less than 20% of the value of the items that were stolen--with absolutely no explanation as to how they arrived at that amount. I then asked if they could at least offer miles or a travel credit given the circumstances. Their response was simply, "No, we don't do that." It has now been nearly two months, and this still has not been resolved. I have called American Airlines nearly 30 times throughout this process, and I can count only about 3-5 times that they have actually followed up or responded to me proactively. The most frustrating part is that I did everything they asked of me, provided documentation and receipts, and spent hours trying to resolve an issue that was not my fault. Yet American has made virtually no effort to fairly compensate me or even explain their decision. I understand that baggage issues happen, but the way American has handled this from start to finish has been incredibly disappointing. Poor communication, almost no follow-up, and an insulting reimbursement offer with no explanation. I would seriously think twice before checking a bag with American Airlines again. read more

Been here at Chicago O Hare airport with my wife and son since 3pm. Our flight got delayed and now we missed our connecting flight to Phoenix-Ont CA. Do not even bother asking assistance from their customer service. They gave us a flight to LAX now with another delayed flight. That means we will be here at O Hare for 5 hours with no guarantee of actually being able to board. Aside from paying extra to land at Ontario CA airport now we have to take an Uber from LAX to Ontario that means another 1-2 hour drive plus paying $150 Uber fee. AA Customer Service did not even offer any assistance for a shuttle. I'll never fly AA again. read more

Very disappointing experience with American Airlines. Our San Diego flight was delayed 3 hours due to a missing aircraft part. Discriminatory Treatment of Disabled Veteran on Flight - Poor Handling of PTSD Accommodations I recently flew with American Airlines and had a deeply disappointing experience that highlighted a lack of understanding and empathy for passengers with disabilities, particularly veterans like myself who are 100% disabled due to service-related PTSD and anxiety. As someone who relies on augmented reality glasses to manage severe anxiety during takeoff and landing--these glasses provide calming visual and auditory cues without impeding my ability to see or hear safety instructions or surroundings--I was shocked when a flight attendant insisted I remove them, claiming they "could hinder" me preventing me from seeing or hearing? Nothing was on my ears and I could see just fine! This was not only incorrect but also showed a complete naivety about assistive devices for mental health disabilities. The attendant failed to examine the situation properly or show any understanding of how such tools help veterans cope with triggers like the stress of flying. Instead of accommodating a reasonable need, they dismissed it outright, exacerbating my anxiety and making the flight unnecessarily traumatic. American Airlines needs to train their staff better on customer service, especially when dealing with disabled passengers and those with PTSD. I was allready told by AA that i was able to This attendant's lack of empathy and knowledge made me feel undervalued and disrespected as a veteran. If they can't handle these situations with compassion, perhaps they should consider a different line of work.maybe it was the US Army Veteran or Hat I was wearing that triggered the attendant. I won't be flying AA again until they address these issues. 1 star - avoid if you have any disabilities requiring accommodations. read more

Horrible experience with customer service after continuous flight changes and cancellations during flight to St Marteen during hurricane closures. American Airlines, you've really outdone yourselves today. I flew from Charleston to Chicago with no issues... until we landed and sat on the tarmac for nearly two hours because our gate was taken. That delay caused me to miss my connection to Los Angeles. Without asking or notifying me, American rebooked me on a flight going back in the direction I came from, only to put me on another flight the next morning. On top of that, I had originally paid for a window seat in row 12 -- yet I was reassigned to a middle seat in the very back of the plane next to the toilets. And the customer service? One rep put me on hold and never came back. The next basically told me to "deal with it" before doing the exact same thing. For an airline with "American" in the name, this experience was anything but representative of the best of America. Do better, I would give you a zero but I'm being kind. read more

I used to be very loyal to America West Airlines out of Phoenix with a hub at one time in Columbus, Ohio. Then, it was US Airways flying across country, again from Phoenix, and I was getting upgraded regularly. Now, it's American Airlines that I frequent along with past America West Airlines and US Airways patrons. I find that similar to any other airline, customer service is often better than not, but there are always those few hiccups. With American Airlines, you can get someone on the phone, on a chat, on social media, or in person to assist, and with some respect on our part, we can often get what we need. I rarely have luggage issues though there was one time where my bag was broken, and American Airlines gave me a replacement bag while they had my original bag repaired. I find myself regularly flying in and out of the American Airlines gates at Phoenix Sky Harbor and frequenting hubs like Dallas-Fort Worth, Chicago O'Hare, Philadelphia, and Charlotte. Often, my travels require a layover, and my flights are more often than not on time and without delays on departing or arriving. With status, an American Airlines credit card, and membership in CLEAR and Global Entry, I do not pay for luggage, I receive priority luggage handling, I board early, I speed through security, I sometimes receive upgrades, and I access lounges. Traveling has become more of a hobby and habit at the same time, and using American Airlines as my regular go-to airlines, I accumulate miles quickly while also receiving status and Loyalty Point rewards. I have two travel premium credit cards: the AAdvantage Executive Mastercard offering complimentary Admirals Club access and the American Express Platinum card offering other lounge access along with travel credits along with complimentary CLEAR and Global Entry membership. Through T-Mobile, I receive free WiFi on American Airline flights. Through my American Airlines AAdvantage status, I get upgrades or free paid snacks and drinks on flights along with other benefits. To retain status each year, you need to earn Loyalty Point through flying, credit card spending, and promotions. You also can earn Loyalty point rewards after hitting 175,000 points, 250,000 points, and so on. While it is difficult to receive upgrades due to so many people at the Executive Platinum status tier, the benefits I do receive is worthwhile. I also have experienced technical issues on flights but not enough to cause me to abandon American Airlines, especially when every other airline has these same challenges. All in all, American Airlines is a great company and does as well if not better than any of the other major airlines. read more

I'll give credit where it's due: The AA of today seems more reliable and improved versus the AA of about a decade ago. Back then it seemed about every other flight I took with this airline was delayed or there was a maintenance issue with the plane, or one of handful of other anomalies occurred that led to postponements and frustration. Over the past few years their track record in my experience has been markedly better. This particular flight to Miami boarded and took off on time, and was relatively uneventful. We took 3 different flights on this week-long trip and for 2 of those, AA had the most agreeable flight times and prices for our needs out of all the major carriers. Let's hope they keep it up! read more

I had an awful experience with American Airlines on my flight home from Kansas City International AirPort. The bad experience I had was Sunday - to start, my flight was delayed over 7 times in the same day without any reason given - there was no bad weather in either city - I thought it was going to be cancelled but thankfully it wasn't. The only solution they had was take a flight free of charge the next day - totally inconvenient. When I finally arrived to the final new scheduled departure time at the airport, we didn't even take off for an additional 30 minutes after the newly scheduled departure time. Then, while in flight - no complimentary drinks or snacks were even offered which were supposed to be offered, but forget us, right? And finally, when we landed in Chicago, our flight was circling on the runway for an additional 1 hour because of all the delays they didn't have a gate prepared for the flight to park at. When I finally got home, I called customer service to complain and there was over 1 hour wait time just to speak to someone - so they referred me to their complaint form site. I described this exact experience and all I received was an auto generated apology. Really disappointing experience with American Airlines, they definitely don't value your business or time - this is an experience I'd say is to be expected from Spirit or Frontier Airlines, but definitely not American who is usually good. Also - there is nothing the customer service phone number can do for you - you can only file complaint forms online nothing over the phone. read more

For starters be on time! Stop scrimping with staff and equipment so you can respect people and their time which you currently DO NOT! This airline runs behind on a sunny day and completely changes your flight and seat assignment without notice on the premise of making sure you get to your destination. They changed our flight kicked us out of first class and put us in the very back row and didn't see a problem with it. We have now been stuck in Chicago longer than the actual flight time to get home. If this airline was on time from the beginning we wouldn't be stuck here. Obviously 0 stars is the only right answer so the 1 star is simply an undeserved Yelp courtesy. In June, I boarded a flight at 5:30pm at Dane County Regional Airport (MSN) for a 6pm departure to Chicago O'Hare International Airport (ORD). I was supposed to catch a connecting flight at ORD to Cleveland Hopkins Airport (CLE) at 8:18pm. We should have been in the air 40 minutes at most given the short distance. For reasons never explained, all passengers were required to check their carry on bags (not gate or valet check them) to their final destination. This confused many, including myself, given the usual process of gate valet checking bags on this route for pickup on the passenger boarding bridge. I had no choice but to comply and wish I did not given the way my luggage was demanded. Unfortunately, the flight from MSN to ORD experienced several significant delays for mechanical issues that were also never explained. The plane sat on the tarmac for over 2.5 hours, with all passengers inside, for an unidentified mechanical issue cause me to miss my connecting flight. I was rebooked on a 7am flight the following morning, given a generous () $12 meal voucher and a hotel voucher. Along with a few other very tired passengers, I arrived at a 2 star accommodation with the clothes on my back and my purse around 11pm, and had to be on the hotel shuttle back to the airport at 5am. The trip was miserable from beginning to end and every American employee I encountered was much less than helpful and friendly. Additionally, see the empty beer and trash can that awaited me in my FIRST CLASS seat from MSN to ORD. So, 17 hours later, I arrived home with damaged luggage and a very tired spirit. Will be avoiding at all costs moving forward. read more

Worst airline ever. Sad sad excuse of an airline. My family and I are trying to get to South Korea to move out my baby sister after a long semester abroad. We booked tickets with this dumb airline MONTHS in advance. We had a flight from Chicago to Dallas and then from Dallas we hop on another airline to get us to Seoul. Well, ready to go none of us slept because we needed to travel to Chicago at 3am to get our 7am flight. AMERICAN stupid airlines delayed our flight at 3:00 am because they didn't have a frickin crew. YET these sneaky greedy monsters were still selling tickets to our flight that was delayed on the website with the time still saying 7am take off. Disgusting. The flight became absolutely useless to us as it was then rescheduled for 5:21 that evening. Meanwhile our flight in Dallas took off at 10:45 am. There was zero help trying to get rebooked for a different flight. We checked 5 other surrounding airlines to see if we can get a flight from American to Dallas at any of those. This dumb stupid airline had flights to Dallas that would get in RIGHT AFTER OUR FLIGHT LEFT. Out of 5 frickin airports none had an American Airlines flight to Dallas that morning. You are better off traveling on a plane made out of two pieces of plywood and paper mache than thinking your flight with American is on track. Oh and this is the kicker... WE DONT GET A REFUND FOR OUR ONE TICKET THAT WAS BOOKED SEPARATELY. Like really American first we get negative help finding a new flight and then you don't even give us a refund for a $3,000 ticket. Nice. I wish this airline took spirits spot and went out of frickin business with how awful they are. I will never willingly fly American ever again and I warn anyone looking at a flight with them. Beware... I'm absolutely distraught and disgusted. read more
