On our way to LGA, my sister and I realized we were much too early for our flight (a habit that we picked up from our mom) and that we were STARVING. When getting off the subway at Roosevelt Av in the middle of Jackson Heights, we decided to stop and grab a quick bite to eat before continuing our trek to the airport - and trust me, it was a trek with the loads of luggage I was taking back to Texas. We found AMDO using our trusty Yelp app and it was suchhh a good decision. My sister and I shared an order of the beef momos, which contain 8 soup dumplings for a killer $5. They were delicious!! Spicy, soupy, flavorful - everything that's the opposite of what you'd get from an airport meal. But be careful, they are steaming HOT and maybe a little bit too much to manage when you have luggage with you. One of my main wishes was that they had some kind of seating, even a bench, to enjoy your momos on. Nonetheless, I would definitely return for these delicious dumplings. read more

These momos are much better than the ones I got from a food stand nearby. I didn't get to eat them right away, so the momos would've been even juicier. We got beef and chicken. It was a bit of a wait, but the guy tending the truck was really nice. They're both seasoned nicely, love the hot sauce. The beef is much leaner than what you'd get from a xiao long bao, but it still had a lil juice/broth inside even after 40 mins. Definitely healthier than the Chinese version. The chicken momos were really good. $6 vs the $5 for beef. I got chicken for my mom, but we all tried one, and they were even better than the beef one. I only had 4-5 momos, but they were still quite filling for me. The skin is also quite delicate, much thinner than I expected; too bad I wasn't able to eat them right away, but I'll definitely try to find this truck next time. After tasting the momos from Phayul, I decided to check out the competition across the street. So glad I did! I usually see a line around the truck, or at least 3-4 customers, but when I went (5pm), no one was around. I guess the momos we're already prepared, because I got my order right away. Good, because nothing's worse than a hangry foodie lol. The beef momos (8 for $5!) were divine. They're slightly smaller than the ones served at Phayul, but these have considerably more filling! They were so good that I made my sister pick me up an order of chicken momos (8 for $6). I like Amdo's chicken momos a lot better than the ones from Phayul. These are a lot more flavorful! Also, their red chili sauce is tastier than the one at Phayul. I think I'll get my momo fix from Amdo from now on since the prices are cheaper. 1-Best Momos 2-Awesome staff 1- I have traveled around many countries, and this is, hands down, the best I have ever tried. First, this is not Nepalese as the yelp classification has it, but Tibetan. Compared to other Tibetan Momos in the Jackson Heights area, these come out on top by far (just last December they won the 2015 Golden Momo award or something.). --The beef tastes like beef; others in the area taste like some lower quality ground meat mixed with unknown stuff. --The wrap is just thin enough and so chewy and just great. These are signs of freshness, as the wrap, made with flour, doesn´t keep or freeze nearly as well as meat. The wraps on other Momos are usually too thick. --The spices and fats in the meat are very well balanced, which means that the juice inside comes in a consistent amount, tasting heavenly every time (gotta eat them hot, on the spot is best). Compared to the Chinese 小笼包 (same food, different name), these Momos are also tastier by a galaxy. And I should know, I have eaten 小笼包 in Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, etc. I have been to famous places like Joe's Shanghai and Din Tai Fung in NY. Amdo´s Momos are not only much, much, much cheaper: the taste is better, and the food is fresher. I crave them when I don´t have them for a while. 2- The staff is just amazing. Nice, laid-back, hard working folks. I won´t share details but truly happy with how they treat customers. BONUS: If you eat on the spot, as opposed to taking it on the go, they give you a little side of pickled veggies (not sure which veggie). But its crunchy, spicy and sour, of course. We have a winner. For those who care - or are searching - for the best momo in New York, find this truck, usually parked in a Tibetan-heavy row of businesses in Jackson Heights. If the weather is fine, it's possible to sit on the boot of the truck and enjoy these perfect pockets of meat, juices and thick dough. Either pressed in halfmoons or round pockets pinched at the top, Amdo is one of the great protein and flour combinations in the city. Be sure to grab plenty of red and yellow sauce (both are spicy and they are definitely not ketchup and mustard) for dipping and coating these beauties. A couple notes - The kitchen isn't terribly fast as these are cooked fresh in a crowded space, so considered ducking inside if waiting on a rainy or cold day. There are a couple vegetarian options for the less fortunate among us who aren't able to enjoy these treats. Perfect. When we went on a Saturday afternoon, the beef momos were ready immediately; chicken were a 10 minute wait. We had a slight preference for the beef (good texture, very juicy, delicate wrapper) but the chicken were also delicious. As others have noted, the pickled veggies (maybe daikon?) you get if you eat there on the spot are a really nice addition. YES YES YES. All day long yes. We ordered 8 beef momas to eat on the street and the owner showed us a cell pic of DeBlasio having eaten there a week prior. We ate our way through Jackson Heights the rest of the day, and on the way back to the subway, stopped again and spent $25 for 50 frozen momas which my boyfriend sealed in eight packs as soon as we got home. I ordered the beef momos for $5 which came with 8 very HOT (steaming, not spicy) dumplings the size of a small plum. For me, Amdo shares the title for best momo in the city with Lhasa Fast Food. Given Lhasa Fast Food's surge in popularity after featuring on Anthony Bourdain's "No Reservations" show, the appeal for Amdo has only grown. The beef momos are the way to go. The beef itself is extremely tasty and the momo skin is perfectly cooked. You MUST get the pickled radishes. The people working the truck do not always given them to you automatically, but they are free with the momos. Their sauce is also bomb, wonderfully spicy but not overbearingly so. The chicken momos are good too, but I prefer the beef momos here. When it's not being renovated, the little section of 37th Road between Broadway and 74th Street is closed to car traffic and serves as a hangout spot for the Bangladeshi community. I love getting my Amdo momos and eating them in this amazing public space. Best $5 meal you can get in Jackson Heights. read more

Awesome MOMOS!! We just had them about 2 hours ago...some of the best Momos we've ever had. Very juicy, tasty and moist....and goes perfectly with the delicious hot sauce and radish pickle they serve alongside the momos. Zopa, the guy serving us was very polite and answered any questions we had with patience. They also gave us a free soup after the momos we ate. The soup was truly delcious, light and refreshing...and PERFECT for the cold winter...it actually kept us warm. Very flavorful and healthy! MUST TRY. I took some photos of their truck, their Menu and of Zopa to create a yelp page, since they told me they had never heard of yelp. However when I just googled them, I found them on yelp, so its probably created by someone else. Irrespective, Im gonna add the photos I took, since it has the menu photo as well.
