I started a review for this theater before but didn't finish it so I'll just give an overall take. I came here the other day for an advanced screening of the movie Housemaid. It was actually really good, more interesting than I thought it would be when I first saw the trailer the week prior and that was great. What was not good, was the theater that we were seated in. I'm going to say the theater because I don't remember seeing dirty disgusting seats at my prior visits here. Look at the pictures and you'll see what I'm referring to. I then also went to the bathroom in the bathroom was nasty as well. I really don't know what is going on with this theater and why AMC has not corrected this issue. Is this what people are accepting from this Columbia theater? Maybe I never noticed because it was my friend who pointed out the dirty seat as I was trying to sit down. It could have been my haste to grab a seat before someone else since it was an advance screening and genpop seating but when she said something I quickly gasped and grabbed my bag. I also noticed that the floors were dirty as well as I walked back from the bathroom to my seat. There was food stuck to it and it just looked like they didn't really upkeep this particular Auditorium. And that is my hope that it is just specific to this Auditorium we were having the free advanced screening in. However if you have people coming to your movie theater for free screening, when you want them to have the best experience? So that confuses me as well. But also once you notice one thing that freaks you out , it heightens your senses and you're open to something else being wrong as well. read more

I saw two movies at the AMC Columbia 14 on Christmas Day. The theater was average for theaters nowadays. A large theater - with perhaps 14 screens? The seats in the theaters we saw movies in were new but not recliners, and you reserve a particular seat when you buy your ticket. The customer service at the ticket counter was friendly. Overall, not a bad place to see a movie. read more

Was here recently for an advanced screening of Sinners. I hadn't visited this theater in awhile. I mean like pre pre covid days. It seems like they got an upgrade from what I remembered. I'm just happy that movie theaters are still around! I enjoyed Sinners by the way. Saw it in IMAX which I highly recommend if going to see this movie! Pro tip - with advanced screenings, it's always great to show up early as seating isn't guaranteed. The movie was set for 7 pm. We arrived around 5:45 and there was a decent line already. I found the theater and bathrooms clean. I didn't get anything from the concessions so can't speak on that. Parking isn't too bad here. There's plenty of food options nearby for before or after. We did happy hour at Seasons 52! read more

2.8.25 It's been two years since I was last at this theater. I came with my hubby to see Led Zeppelin in the IMAX theater. Surprised to see that they haven't upgraded to reclining seats. That would elevate the experience. Audio was good and I like that they have counter receptacles conveniently located within our theater. We ordered a large tin of popcorn and soda. Not sure if the popcorn was originally salty or because I added salt to it. I was so thirsty! The disadvantage of the Cola freestyle soda fountain dispenser was our Coke tasted like it was mixed with lime soda. Theater itself is fine, but would prefer reclining seats. I hate going to the movies, simply because I HATE movies theaters. They always seem to be extremely dirty. The floors are sticky, the bathrooms are icky, just not a pleasurable experience in my opinion. My husband, however; loves going to the movies, so I am often forced on occasion to visit a movie theater when he is in charge of date night! AMC Columbia 14 isn't as bad as others, but not the best either. The theater was dirty, in fact there was a used tissue in my cup holder. I tried to move as little as possible. Their theaters are smaller than others, but that just means you don't have to deal with extreme crowds. The tickets were a little less than 40 bucks and the concessions are as expensive as expected. read more

I think my biggest issue with AMC Columbia is that the other patrons don't respect the theater experience. People don't sit in their assigned seats and patrons are allowed to come in well after the film has started (not the trailers, the film). Seats are still the red spiky fabric ones that don't recline. Evening showtimes also run the risk of teenagers theater hopping -- I've seen this a couple of times and the staff has now closed several exits (I assume) to prevent guests from letting non-ticket holders in. I go to this theater because it has a lot of screens and shows films that not every AMC shows, but it isn't my favorite. read more

This AMC needs a major renovation from seats to flooring... Amenities: has a small arcade, concession counter covers all the basic food and drinks; has a great selection of snacks & souvenirs. Restrooms are kept fairly clean. Services: great service at check in; efficient service at the food counter; cleaning services inside the theater is terrible ...see pictures. Theatre seats: most of the theaters in this AMC has the old no reclining hard seats ‍, except #3 has reclining seats but super beat up, with faux leather surfaces are mostly gone & food crumbs, dripped drink stains allover ... looks pretty disgusting ...see pictures Food quality & prices: typical theater pricing $$$. Food portions are pretty small , except for popcorns. Expensive snacks but do have a good variety to choose from. Parking: convenient mall parking. read more

We traveled from Annapolis on Saturday to see Dune 2 on opening weekend. These are the theaters at Columbia Mall, which I have seen many times when shopping but have not actually visited. The reason for our visit (and this review) is to commend them for being inclusive. We were thrilled to find a showing with open (on screen) captions on Saturday afternoon. My husband has an extreme hearing loss, but Dune is one of his favorite film franchises. Usually, we have to wait to see popular films. I actually have come to enjoy the captions, too, although I dont rely on them. I purchased two online tickets at senior prices, which were extremely reasonable, so we had assigned seats in a perfect center location. So Bravo to AMC 14 and don't miss the show--it was great! read more

Friendly staff, clean, nicely decorated, comfortable seating. People are polite and don't talk during previews or movie.

Great theater but high! I like the way the theater looks and I like the structure of how it's built inside plus it has an imax theater.

The seats are dirty. I couldn't enjoy the movie because I was so grossed out by the seats.

Pretty disappointing experience. Live mouse running around the theater. The seats are not updated to be reclining nor are they clean.

The entryway is great! There's a game area, plenty of options at concessions and new self-serve soda machines. It was a great first impression when I walked in.... BUT The seats are GROSS! Not to mention the floor is sticky and sometimes seats or cup holders have crumbs on them. I don't recommend going here unless you wear jeans, long sleeves and a coat. Being able to see the dirt and stains on the seats before I sit down is off putting. I tossed my entire outfit into the washer as soon as I got home because the seats are absolutely despicable! It's a convenient location. But I can't get past these seats. Please upgrade the outdated seats with leather or go all out by upgrading to reclining seats. One last thing... avoid the bathrooms. Went to AMC 14 at the Mall of Columbia, yesterday (July 20 2024). Overall a decent experience was had by the family. The order ahead refreshments is not really what I was expecting. Most places you order ahead, they have your food ready and waiting in a special place to just grab and go. Not here, you have to get in the same line as everyone else, so it really takes the same amount of time. It could be a great thing if you just grabbed and went. For $15, I expected the seats to be the wide plush recliners. Theater 13 is definitely not. I think that is one of their biggest theaters, but the seats were the normal old school movie seats. Not particularly comfortable or inviting. Apparently, it was also hard to figure out your assigned seat number, I saw multiple families move several times because they were in someone else's seats. Not sure that this theater is worth the price or hassle of going to the mall. There are definitely better options in the area. read more

Went to see the Color Purple musical. This is an old theater with no upgrades- no reclining seats, etc. The concession area is a little dated. You can reserve your seats ahead of time but everything else about the theater reminds me of a theater from the early 2000s. The theater does have iMax theaters. read more

I saw the David Bowie documentary in the IMAX theater. Theater was comfortable and clean. Picture and sound were good. Most importantly, the closed captioning worked throughout the movie, although the battery was critically low about to die at the end. This is a theater I would return to for an IMAX.. read more

It's time for an upgrade Columbia. I've gotten spoiled going to other AMC theaters with the reclining/heated seats. We saw Wakanda Forever in 3D. The presentation was wonderful and I definitely felt like I could step into Wakanda There was only 1 person selling tickets around 7 and this could be because most people purchase online. The concession line moved fast an was well staffed in this post Covid world The bathroom could have used a little love. Not the worst I've seen, but overflowing trash cans, and toilet paper on the floor throughout the bathroom needs to be taken care of. read more

employees were super nice but the people that come here r THE WORST. went to see the minecraft movie spent way too much for two people and had the movie ruined by people clapping and screaming everytime jack black opened his mouth and no one would stop talking. Almost left early but then remembered how much i paid. the people behind me were kicking our seats. the people next to us were throwing popcorn idek if they ate any of it there was so much on the ground, i felt so bad for the employees. next time i want to watch a movie definitely just waiting for it to come on netflix or something. tired of paying so much money to have a movie ruined by the other people watching it. read more

I was very surprised how clean this place was. This is a very busy location and even with the amount of people in and out things were still in order. Also, the promotional items were available and they made sure the people seeing the movie got what they paid for. The lines moved very fast and the concessions were clean and orderly. I drove from Frederick, MD to come to this AMC and we will be back. read more

Look, I get it. Not every place can be an Alamo Drafthouse, Arclight, AFI Silver... but at least TRY to excel. Every time I'm here I'm depressed. Out of all their auditoriums, the only ones that show an ounce of attention put into them are their IMAX and Dolby Cinema screens. And even those have issues... the Dolby Cinema often has visual glitches on the left hand side of the screen. The rest of the screens are abysmal. Rips and tears, dim projection, no attempt at screen masking, often films are cropped (I've seen subtitles completely obliterated in some movies), the sound (outside of IMAX or Dolby) has me doubt they even have surround sound enabled, the seats are filthy, squeaky, and uncomfortable. It's a mess. The guests are rude, often coming late and talking and texting throughout the films. I saw TALK TO ME (a hard R, gory, violent, profane, scary movie) today, a pretty full screening, and a large family (with two kids roughly 5 and 10!) arrived about twenty minutes into the feature, talking loudly, cell phone lights shining, trying to find their seats. One kid running down the front of the theater, the other probably scared out of her mind. How were these kids allowed in? This is just one of countless terrible experiences I've had here. Obviously not every theater can have the strict no talking, no texting, no arriving late standards of the Alamo Drafthouse (I wish!) but other theaters at least ATTEMPT to foster a respectful atmosphere. Have staff in the halls ready to help (one time a projector just wasn't on throughout the pre-show or trailers, me and others had to run the entire length of the building to tell customer service [and they just said "don't worry it'll come on eventually."]). Replace and maintain your screens. Get better seating. Ensure projectors are screening films with the proper aspect ratio. Replace the bulbs every so often. Don't sell R rated tickets to babies. Make it feel like we are getting something for our money. Give a crap! Theater chains are always whining: "people don't go to the movies anymore!" Well why would they when the experience is this TERRIBLE?! I firmly believe people still want to go to the movies (just look at Barbenheimer. Heck my screening of this little indie horror flick was nearly sold out on a Sunday afternoon.), but when you show how little you care about the experience, it gives others permission to not care about the experience. And it just spirals from there. What an awful theater. Now that the summer blockbuster season is nearly over, I'm almost at the point where I'm going to cancel my A-list membership. I'm not sure why there is a clean policy when this place is still a landfill... during covid. It's apparent there is no cleaning/disinfecting in between showings. The seats are gross. They need to be scrubbed, deep cleaned and shampoo-Ed. I was in theatre 6 and the seats had so much caked on dirt. The floor was dirty and sticky. No one swept, trash under seats. The bathrooms are horrifying. I've seen cleaner bathrooms at rest stops known to house homeless. I highly doubt they have installed medical grade clean air filters and if so, change them as required. This theatre was a gross infestation before covid and still is. This theatre is liable to give you covid, salmonella or e.coli. Pick your poison. I prefer Regal. If you are an adult with class, standards & and expect cleanliness & safety go there. AMC is clearly on some initiative to eliminate the population. read more

We used to like coming here but not so much anymore. Because they haven't replaced all their movie theater seat with reclining seats, like the majority of other Movie Theaters. We were very disappointed to see they were regular seats specifically Theater 8 which seems to be the theater the movie we are seeing is playing in. So please come out of the 20th Century to the 21st Century and get on board like almost every Movie Theater in the Nation or I won't be returning. read more

I've been to this theater several times over the past 10 years, but haven't been since I've become a regular Yelper...until the other day when I went to see Spider-Man in IMAX. Upon arrival, I noted everyone, employees and patrons were wearing masks, which is good. The lobby was clean looking and smelling. I didn't bother to get concessions, so I avoided sticker shock. Buying tickets was fairly easy. I was able to pick my seat and the theater looked to be fairly empty. The IMAX theater is close to the entrance and I headed over as soon as my purchase was complete. The theater itself was pretty nice with large [p]leather seats and cup holders made for gigantic drinks. It was clean looking and smelling in there also. The IMAX quality was spectacular. I'd already seen the movie in a non-IMAX theater, but I was glad I got to enjoy it on a super duper big screen. All in all, a good experience. Will definitely return. read more

4th theater in AMC A-List era series. I first went here on Thursday, July 26, 2018. This & Center Park are my 2 closest theaters since moving to Anne Arundel County near Laurel in November 2020. Columbia would end up being my most common theater since moving to AA County. Center Park (even about a mile closer) is a nice theater too, but Columbia wins out almost every time. Walking distance from the theater around the mall area has many eating options before or after a movie while Center Park has no eating options over there. Plus, Columbia is safer & more well-lit than Center Park in Beltsville. The staff is friendly here. It'd be nice if they had the reclining seats here, but like Tysons, there are leather recliners in Dolby and leather rockers in IMAX theater. Columbia also has more variety of movies than Center Park as it has more screens. One time on one of the hottest days of the year on Wednesday, June 30, 2021, there was a sign mentioning the A/C being broken. At least there was a warning before I committed. They were honest saying it was kind of warm in there. Luckily, I was able to cancel at 6:58 for a 7 PM movie since often I don't always get there right on time as there are 20 minutes of trailers anyway. I ended up looking at Center Park and the movie I was going to see wasn't complimentary time wise, but I ended up seeing another movie that was at 7:30 PM, which ended up being my least favorite movie of June, but these things happen. Additionally, Columbia was the only option close to me when I first first moved to AA County in November 2020 until late March 2021 when Montgomery & Prince George's County finally opened up the theaters after those counties' Covid rules. Overall, coming to Columbia is a pleasant experience for me. read more

AMC Columbia used to be one of the best movie theaters to go to. It used to rival Cinemark at Arundel Mills. Now the experience here is just average at best. The food options have gotten better, but they've also increased in cost. Being that the food here was already expensive, this is a bummer. The "gourmet" caramel popcorn tastes ok and you get A LOT of it. But it's too much to eat at once, even in a 2 hour movie! The theater appearance is also inconsistent between viewing rooms. We saw DC Super Pets last weekend in theater 3 with the Dolby sound and screen. That theater was pretty clean and kept up. The appearance of the seats and overall theater was good. The seats were very comfortable too. However, today we saw Paws of Fury in theater 11. The seats look older and had stains in them. Not sure from what; spilled soda maybe? Who knows.. The above concerns aside, the screens are great and the sound in both the Dolby and Standard theaters is good. The Dolby sound is actually REALLY good! It's immersive and really enhanced the experience while watching Super Pets with my son. The standard sound in Paws of Fury was good enough. Although reclining seats would have been better though. These were just regular, old school cushioned seats in a fixed position. Meh... I'm sure I'll be back here in the future. The average experience is by no means a bad one. While we aren't "Wowed" by AMC Columbia anymore, it's still a decent movie theater complex overall. But we might just eat before coming to the movies so that we can avoid the expensive snacks that are offered. read more

Zero stars. Extremely unprofessional. My experience at AMC 14 was absolutely appalling. I went to get a refund on my tickets, and during the process, the SUPERVISOR started laughing at the situation, and one of the workers, KIERA, began taking pictures of me and my group without our consent and laughing while texting on her phone. This behavior was incredibly disrespectful and unprofessional. When I informed the manager about this unacceptable conduct, he did absolutely nothing to address the situation. No action taken against the worker, just complete indifference, and an extremely hostile environment. This kind of treatment is unacceptable, and it made an already bad visit even worse. I will not be returning to AMC 14 and would advise others to avoid this theater as well. Customer service and respect are clearly NOT their priorities. I will be getting in touch with their Head Department. read more

Understaffed theater with nearly unusable ticket machines out front. I had to press every button at least five times to get the action to register. And the reason I was trying the machines was the in-person line that looked at least 20 minutes long. Also, I spent over 20 minutes cruising through the parking lot to find a space. Okay, it was a Tuesday, when tickets are $5, but it was still a huge waste of time. What can I say positive? The bathrooms were relatively clean. I can't say anything about food because the concessions line was way too long to even attempt to get anything. Overall, I'd rather give my business to other fantastic AMC theaters. read more

I visited Columbia 14 theaters with my family this past weekend to celebrate my 7-year old's birthday and was treated very rudely by one of their employees. My wife had purchased tokens for my son to play in the lobby arcade, but lost approximately 3 tokens before realizing that some of the machines only took cash. When my wife went to the customer service desk to ask for a refund, the young lady told her that she would not give her a refund and that she should have read the slot on the machine before paying. She also told her that AMC is not responsible for the arcade machines and to call the vendors. At that point I asked if there was signage indicating that AMC is not responsible for the arcade and she said "no, but could check." After going back and forth with her about it not being clear who was responsible it became obvious that she was not going to be very helpful. It felt like she was stonewalling us and being very dismissive, rude, and heartless about it. She said several times that she was done with the conversation and put her hand in my face twice. I then asked to speak with a manager. She said she was a supervisor but I could speak with a manager if needed. I asked her to call the supervisor and she pointed me to her and said she wasn't going to call her over and that I could walk over to her. At that point I was even more offended and asked for her name. She gave me her first name and I asked for her last name since she said she was a supervisor and the name she gave was very common. She refused to give me her last name and said she didn't have to, so I went to speak with the manager after that. I spoke with the manager and described what I've stated above. After speaking to the manager, she told me that the young lady gave me a fake name. I was even more bothered by that because of how unprofessional that was. I told the manager that I wanted to lodge a formal complaint and she said all she could do is put it in a complaint log. The manager said her employee's behavior was inappropriate and that she would retrain her. The manager, offered my wife some coupons for concessions and was much more understanding than the young lady at the customer service desk. The experience I had made me feel that no one was responsible and there was no one there to give clear answers. I've been going to AMC Columbia 14 since it opened at the mall for over a decade and expected better than the treatment we received. I was truly disappointed, shocked, offended, and disheartened by my experience. It was even worse that it happened while celebrating my son's birthday. read more
