This little mom-and-pop sandwich shop is such a hidden gem. It's super unassuming from the outside, and it seems like most people call ahead since it's more of a takeout spot. It absolutely delivered and I'll tell you why. I had been craving a really good egg salad sandwich, you know the egg salad sandwiches from Korea or Japan, and this completely hit the spot! All of them were delicious-the taste, texture, and freshness of the subs are perfect . We also got a cheese burger, it tasted like a burger from my childhood. When I first started working in San Dimas, this was the first restaurant recommend to me for lunch. It is my normal go to when I don't know what to eat for lunch. I call in my order and in less than five minutes they were ready. My only downer is that the online hours don't match the hours on the door - I had hyped it up to my hubby for picnic at the Hollywood Bowl we were on our way to and we pulled up and they were closed already. Great sandwiches, fast service, and local shop. My go to is always the Ambro's California with everything. Love the fine diced lettuce, just the right amount of avocado. I was in a hurry to grab a quick bite, and being at the dog groomer next door did not want to make another stop, so I figured I would try this place. It was just meh! Maybe I love this place for the nostalgia of it. I used to come here when I'd visit downtown San Dimas, and Ambro's was a weekly staple for me during the initial part of the pandemic. Just know that you will likely be served by a very matter-of-fact, efficient woman. You won't necessarily get a huge sandwich stuffed full of ingredients but you will get a sensible portion and you'll pay a rather sensible price for it and it will be pretty tasty. Very disappointed after giving this place a good review last week I came in again because it was good I made a phone order and asked my ambros sandwich with no sauces . I didn't notice it had mustard until I was back and work . Now this is the reason why I was disappointed . I drove back it's only 5 mins away and when I got to ambros I told them I asked for no sauces . They swapped it out but they only swapped out the bread and not the complete Sandwich. They literally took the lettuce , ham and roast beef with mustard still on it and put into a new bread . I understand its a small business and they try to keep it cost efficient but what if I was allergic to mustard what "IF" This is not acceptable. I was working in the area and was looking for a sandwich shop and found this place. The place is very clean but not super attractive, but don't let that stop you from stopping by. The bread was fresh and the sandwich was pretty good. They also serve rice bowls with different meats. Service was quick as well. I've been coming here for a few years and have only bought the sandwiches. I have seen other people leave with Teriyaki Bowls and burgers so I will assume they are good too. Though lately the sandwiches seem a little skimpier then they were previously. Other reviews make reference to rudeness and I definitely understand why. I have never seen the women behind the counter ever smile or say hello, goodbye or even a thank you. In fact even when ordering on the phone the woman seems cold and hangs up before I can even give my name. The reason for the three star review is I still like the food but because the woman behind the counter seems miserable and zombie like I have to deduct one star. Yum!!! Just stopped by for the first time tonight. Ordered an All-Cheese and a Nervous Wreck. Hubster and I each ate a half of each sandwich. Both were very very good! Been coming here for years because it's near my office in San Dimas and a nice alternative to Subway. Sure, the prices might seem a little high and the customer service leaves a little to be desired, but I still go here every so often. I usually get a small pastrami and cheese, which is delicious but could definitely use more mustard and pickles (I just add mustard back at the office). And the small (called "regular") seems especially small because they slice it in half, making it look even smaller. But it is quite tasty, and this is really the only place near enough to my work where I can pick up a pastrami sandwich. Today I opted for a tuna sandwich on wheat because I had been craving one. Theirs is really good! They pack on a lot of tuna salad, along with lettuce and tomato (I omitted on mine). The tuna is tasty, not too "fishy". They mix it with mayo, relish and a tiny bit of chopped egg. Mmm! I think that egg is what must make it taste so good. The regular size is very filling and, with a bag of chips, cost me $6.10 total. Definitely less than I'd have paid at Subway and this is much better. Also, they do have good fries! read more
