Ambient is very easy to get hold of and schedule. They installed our replacement HVAC unit years ago, which wasn't easy because for some reason, the external fan is mounted on our roof. We've had them back for maintenance, and I've met Rodney a few times, most recently when we weren't getting cold air from the A.C. He's very friendly, and quite fast to get any issues resolved. Let me start by saying I do not want to write this review but I feel that it needs to be done. I have used ambient in the past for repairs to an old system and they were great. We recently called to have our entire furnace and Ac system plus ducting all replaced. After getting a quote we said we wanted to move forward and were told they would start in a few days. This is where the problems began.... A few days go by and nothing... then we are told next week, then 2 weeks, then 3... Finally after at least 3 weeks of waiting, they started the install and it gets worse. After the ac unit was installed, we noticed that instead of using all new copper lines as they were supposed to, they reused our old ones and hand bent them, while scabbing in random fittings to reduce the 1" line to 1/2" back to 3/4" and ran this atrocity down 5 feet of wall on the side of our house, not secured or strapped in place. After seeing the extremely poor quality of work on the ac unit, I went under my house to inspect the rest of their work and found ducts not strapped to the floor and left sagging on the ground, exposed metal not insulated or taped, actual room vents had their duct lines fallen off from lack of tape or necessary boots not even installed, duct lines pulled so tight that they cut off airflow to that room. Garbage was left all over the under side of my house from their install. Next I checked the attic and cold air return lines. All of the old return vents that were torn out, were left in the attic, the sheetrock around the new return was broken, the return itself was not even strapped in place or taped correctly, the return line was not insulated or taped. Don't worry it gets worse..... We noticed the roof vent for the furnace was laying on top of the roof. So we climbed on the roof and found that instead of installing a new roof jack, they tore multiple shingles of our brand new installed roof, trampled the area around the jack and then didn't bother to even put the vent pipe in, leaving laying on the roof. We took pictures and contacted the company immediately. I will say that they responded right away and promised to fix any issues. I want to be clear that the guys were all nice and very courteous. The roof was repaired and all of the explained issues were eventually corrected, kinda. The quality of workmanship was extremely poor and looked as though none of them had any experience installing HVAC systems, or just did not care whether they did a good job or not. I hate to write a review like this, but I would feel guilty if I did not warn other potential customers. I truly do hope that this was a one time thing and that Ambient has fixed any issues they had. read more

I called Brandon and he gave me the contact number for the tech on call as he himself is out of town. I called and left my message. Finds the easiest routes to service. Let's people work without EPA which is highly illegal and should be fined for. I'm not going to say any names but the owner knows who they are. Don't get me wrong you are allowed to do preventative maintenance without and epa but handling refrigerant without an epa is a huge violation. read more

My homeowner's warranty company sent the service request to this company. They called me 30 minutes before arriving without a scheduled appt, the technician didn't want to wait 5 minutes for us to make it home. I told them to schedule an appt and made me wait 4 days, the clerk said she texted and I didn't respond so they removed my home for their service, I told her that if I didn't respond to a text she should call me, I have a disabled person at home and we were waiting for 4 days already. This company is so unprofessional and acts like they are making you a favor and you need to appreciate them for coming for a job they will get paid. I requested estimates from several businesses for a new HVAC system. Ambient responded promptly to my Yelp contact and provided the best overall value. Scott and his team showed up promptly and started working right away. I had the old furnace and ducts removed and added a new AC unit (95% AFUE 17 SEER). It took them four days to complete the job. They clean up after themselves everyday which was great! The job was completed in November right before Thanksgiving holiday which was great because it was a cold November! The AC unit was on backorder so Scott and his team had to come back to install the AC unit on another day. We've enjoy our new heating system so far. We've been without AC forever!!! The heatwave during summer 2020 was a horrible. Can't wait to use the AC this summer 2021. Ambient also manage the BayREN home energy rebate program and title 24 for me. The inspection was completed by Energuy. Scott came back out to fix items from the inspection report and the city permit was signed off in late December. I should be getting my rebate in 4-6 weeks. Had an issue with our AC unit not cooling the house down below 80 degrees on a 100 degree day. Called Ambient and they came out on time the next day exactly at 9am and recharged our system and installed insulated tape on the hoses. These guys are totally honest. We have used Ambient in the past each time we had issues with our air conditioner and they would be out the next day to fix it. It was now time to replace it my husband called to get an estimate for a new unit and duct work told the person would call us and he never did. My husband then called back again like I said we always used them and never had issues. Finally the guy calls to set up a date and time to come out and give an estimate. My heater wasn't blowing hot air, and an Ambient tech came by and simply reset a safety switch and the heater started up again. The labor charge was $110 as quoted on the phone, but there was a hidden extra $25 "truck charge" that was not mentioned over the phone that the tech said was standard. Wasn't happy about that, as the tech was already in the area when I made the call. Note there's a 4% additional charge if you want to use a credit card with them. I'd recommend going with Livermore Air Conditioning Heating Refrigeration - they only charged $50 last time when I had a similar problem and they had worked for a similar amount of time. Update: Called Ambient and mentioned that the $25 "truck charge" was not quoted over the phone, and they refunded the charge the same day. read more

Of course, on the hottest day of the year (so far), our A/C died We come home to a hot house. The compressor was running but no air, so we turn off the whole thing. The next day, I tried to call my old AC guy but turns out he no longer is in town. I asked for referrals, preferably local ones, not the big chains, and no one picked up the phone when I called. I turned to Yelp then and found Ambient. They have good Yelp reviews so I took the risk and called. Jenny answered the phone, was really nice, and scheduled to check our A/C the soonest that was convenient for us. She explained the diagnostic fee, and although I was thinking at that point that it seemed a tad high, I was just too happy that someone was available. Scott came out and said it was our circuit board - apparently it was entirely missing! The previous guy might have taken it out and just direct wired the A/C. He didn't have the parts so Tony came the next day and installed it. Fan was back on! However, later in the day, the 20 year old compressor died. I called again, and Scott came back ASAP! He gave as a good deal on the compressor unit, and to top it all, came in on a Sunday to install it! At this point all I can say is that their service is really good, and the people who work there are really good guys. The tech was on time and polite. He fixed the issue in less than an hour. Why such a low review, you ask? Well, they charge you $110 just to come to the door then they charge you for parts and labor. They changed my surface ignitor (a $22 part) and charged me $186 bucks for it. It literally took the guy 5 minutes to change it. I don't mind paying a little extra for the "install" but $164 is ridiculous especially when you include the $110 just for showing up. What exactly am I getting for that $110? The honor of having you come to my door? Too bad you are such a ripoff. If you'd have been fair, I would have used you again since I liked the tech. But now? Hell no. Never again. read more

Fidelity National Home Warranty sent out a company to look at my heater that was leaking water through my ceiling, they said I needed a whole new heater replacement and gave me an outrageous quote of out of pocket upgrades I needed to pay for. Having a hutch it was a scam I looked for another quote. From the time I picked up the phone to call Ambient Heating and Air to the time my heater was fully repaired was less then 24 hours. Joe figured out the source of the leak in about 10 minutes. BTW I did not need a heater replacement. The replacement hose was out of stock so Joe went to Home Depot and picked up another hose that would work and had it fixed no time. I highly highly recommend them!! read more

These guys show up, but they rarely finish up. My Brentwood walk-in refrigerator stopped cooling so I called these guys again. They go on the rooftop and fix the restaurant Refrigerator issue by essentially replacing everything wether it needs it or not, till it starts working. Than they leave and I find loose parts all over the place. Mostly old parts, but sometimes (more than once this happened) the rooftop condenser top cover blowing around on the roof. (Keep in mind that this is a large & heavy Sheetmetal cover slamming around on the roof. God only knows how much damage it caused to the roof.) All this cause the tech is more concerned about yapping his -/:;$@" phone and what he is doing that night, instead of caring about the work he is performing. We would not even have known about the loose cover had it not been for someone going on the roof and happened to notice the cover laying on the roof top and then taken the time to notify us. I only wish that it would personally cost that mindless tech to have to come back and finish his sloppy workmanship. But no, California has to protect these idiot employees, so that they never learn. It just costs his employer and therefore the customer more and more. What a crappy business environment. read more

Ambient installed a new furnace and AC for our home. We were adding a room to our house so new duct work and zoning was also required. . Anthony the sales person is very courteous, helpful and knowledgeable. He provided us with a lot of information from the beginning. This is what sold us on the company. 3 months later, once the addition was complete, we called ambient to install the new furnace/ac system. It turned out that some of the duct work was installed wrong by our contractor, not affiliated with Ambient. They ducts/registers in the addtion were too small for the space. Ambient showed a strong desire to do the work right. They everyone from the Owner of the company, technicians, and Anthony came by to see what needed to be done to over the course of a week. Knowing that time was important to us, Anthony even came by on a Friday evening and then again on a Sunday morning (we are in fremont, so it's quite a drive from the Livermore/680 area). I really appreciated this commitment to do things right. Know that we had paid them in full before any of this duct remedying work was done. They visited the house 3-4 times in the week after that, fixed the necessary problems and we now have a working system (passed all inspections). They did not charge us any more money beyond the original payment. This type of service and desire to do things right is not common these days. We had another company try and analyze our air conditioning problem last summer to never being convinced it was done correctly. So fast forward to this summer and the problem is still there. I called Ambient based on recommendations from others. Ryan came out this morning right on time, not only fixed the issue but explained why it was doing what it was doing. I asked if he had the time to install my Nest upstairs and help me program it correctly as well as run a wire from the attic for power so I didn't have to keep recharging it. Part of my earlier problem was due to incorrect programming on my downstairs Nest. Ryan was very friendly and extremely knowledgeable. Because they were so helpful we went with them to install a new even to them system. We chose to install a mini split system. It took longer than they expected to install. The tech installed the system incorrectly, they blew out several circuit boards. From day one the system never worked right. One of the techs even stepped through my attic into my garage. I was always having problems, one of the units would constantly ice over. This issue was later traced back to a mother board failure caused by improper installation. When it would melt the water would run down the wall and make a mess. Later I found out that these freeze/thaw cycles stressed out the condensation pumps. This caused premature pump failure. And I had to foot the bill. In three years I spent thousands of dollars for them to "fix" the system. After the warranty ran out, every problem I had with the system I had to pay for, and every issue they blamed me. And to add insult to injury I had to constantly call them to order the parts, schedule appointments to do the work. No other company would touch the system, I was stuck. I am so happy I sold that house. I'm so relieved I don't have to deal with them anymore. read more
