Second, Brook mentioned that there was a manufacturer's recall on our existing 1-year old Mitsubishi heat pump (we have 2 zones with 2 separate units) and that we should pay him out of pocket to fix it. I was confused, because we received no information regarding a recall and typical costs associated with a recall are not paid by the customer. Furthermore, we hadn't experienced any issues and we're still within the warranty period from the manufacturer and installer. I tried calling their supervisor to come out or send someone else but they kept dodging my call. When I answered the door and explained the issue was still happening, he just shrugged his shoulders. After a short time, he came back down and said he had "tried everything" but never explained what he checked or what the actual problem was. Again, I was told the only options were to replace the system or live with the noise. I also never received any written work order explaining the diagnosis or repairs that were supposedly attempted. I did get a number of quotes for our project to make sure I did my due diligence, and he provided the most budget friendly quote by a pretty significant margin. We decided to get a mini split heat pump installed, and he was very up-front with the pricing and what he would ask from me. I was responsible for pulling the building permit, but it wasn't very difficult to do, and by my estimate from other quotes I got, it saved us hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars.
