    Because there are many individual employees who are so courteous and helpful, I ignored aspects of customer service and skill that were lacking in the 4 years that I have been getting my hair high-lighted at Ambiance by Kim, the colorist. Based on other reviews I am not alone in my disappointment with the blithely disrespectful middle-aged women controlling the front desk. I always felt rushed by Kim and her jam-packed appointments reflected in the chunky, uneven highlights. But the color was lovely and she seemed like such a nice person. I am low-maintenance anyway. I have since noted that the allotted time for a full head of highlights (found on their website) is 30 mins. with a colorist. Ambiance charges $185. An assistant completes the the foil removal. But I have just made an appointment with Darren's in Locust Valley as he comes highly recommended by a friend. The straw that broke this camel's back at Ambiance Roslyn was an attempt I made to reschedule my appt. 48 hours before said appt. The witch recognized my cell phone(!!) and immediately asked me to call back "when you are sure about your appt. honey". I thought oh she's confusing me with someone else! When I conveyed my confusion ( I repeated that I was calling to reschedule) she said " Kim said that you reschedule ALL the time so you're not permitted to make any more appts. unless you are sure you can make THAT appt. I asked her to be clearer.... She repeated the insult and it was so degrading. She was so utterly degrading to me. I am still in shock..."Kim said you are not ALLOWED to make any appointments unless you are sure you can make it". I make it to all of my appointments. I would never argue with a business when I can just leave and take my money elsewhere so I said, oh no no no cancel that appt and I won't be returning. And hung up. I do not argue with crazy. The exchange was bizarre. And irrational. And I wonder if the owners know that this is how the desk speaks to customers. I checked my 2020 calendar immediately and it turns out I went to Ambiance THREE times in 2020 for color. I rescheduled (always giving at least 48 hrs-one week notice) 2 of those 3 times. And, obviously COVID had played a role in that. And my handicapped son. Suddenly I was in 2nd grade in Catholic school, in trouble. This had gotten really, really personal. I don't know why (and I tip very well). My guess is that the goal is making as much money as possible and that requires booking a colorist to run an assembly line. Any interruption is not tolerated. The skill that Kim lacks is because she's rushing....30 mins. for a full-head of highlights. Unbelievable. We live on the North Shore of Long Island where we all have the luxury of finding a business that trains their staff to convey policy as well. Say, 72 hours notice for changing an appointment and certainly I would respect that. But Ambiance does not have a policy and instead, there's at least one misfit answering the phones, and an owners greed. I am embarrassed that I went to Ambiance for as long as I did. So fingers crossed for Darren's!

    Ruined my hair... I came in for highlights and was given chunky, obvious highlights that make me look like a skunk. Do not come here if you are looking for something natural! Tina was my colorist and please for your sake do not go here!! I have never felt so self conscious about my hair in my life!!

    If I could give 0 stars I would. Went to get my hair highlighted, the colorist was Tina. She had zero idea what she was doing and I spent 5 hours trying to fix the mistake. But the worst part? NO ONE EVEN ACKNOWLEDGED HOW BAD IT WAS! The front desk staff was rude, the manager!? The rudest. All anyone wants is a "I totally see what you're saying and I'm really sorry I messed up, I want to make it right..." they were condescending, judgmental, rude people and I will do everything I can to spread the word. Tina was the worst hair colorist I've ever been to, and has zero care in the world about it.

    What an awful experience. I arrived 15 minutes for my appointment and was abruptly told I did not…read morehave an appointment - despite having a confirmation email. I was turned away. I left 5 messages for the manager, she never called back. I called their corporate offices and was told " the matter has been taken care of". It had not. I am a monthly membership member and cannot cancel my membership fast enough. The blowouts are fair at best and the only reason I went to them is their early morning hours. But I will never be back. The first time I went, the receptionist was very nice and I purchased some headbands from their selection. The hair dresser who did my hair was not very nice on the other hand. I felt she was very rude right from the beginning. I have had my hair blown out many times, this was the first time I felt my scalp being burned from the blow dryer being too hot. I had mentioned it to the hair dresser several times and no changes were made. My hair was extremely frizzy once the blow drying was complete and I could see all the little broken hairs from the heat being too hot. I went back a second time hoping for a better experience and to give them a second chance. I had gotten busy at work and called them approximately 40 minutes before my appointment time to let them know I may be a few minutes late. I ended up getting there 7 minutes late to be exact. The hair dresser who did my hair made it very clear to me that I was late, as did the receptionist, several times. The entire experience was extremely uncomfortable and I felt awful them having to then rearrange "several" appointments due to me being 7 minutes late. Meanwhile, there was one other person in the salon getting their hair done. After me listening to my hair dresser and the receptionist go back and forth throughout my entire blow out, she proceeds to tell me she won't have enough time to finish my hair. There was one customer waiting (whose hair was already washed by the way) in an otherwise empty salon. She went through not even half my hair with a few curls and told me that was all she had time to do. I thanked her, paid for my hair, and tipped (knowing in my head I would never go back there). I STRONGLY advise against going to this place. There are much better places in the area that are kinder, better at what they do, and more efficient.
