Salon Review - Stylist: Gina Rating: (1/5 stars) Date of Service: [6/26 - 3 days before sister's wedding] Extremely Disappointing Experience After 10 Years of Loyalty After being a loyal customer for 10 years and spending approximately $700 per month at this salon, I left in tears just three days before my sister's wedding. This was hands down the worst salon experience I've ever had, and I'm seriously reconsidering whether I'll return. Major Issues Encountered: Timing and Scheduling Problems: Started 30 minutes late for my appointment Total service time: 3 hours (should have been much shorter) Left color processing for one hour instead of the standard 30 minutes so stylist could work on another client Had to constantly track down Gina throughout the appointment Was never informed that a haircut was being done when I booked a month in advance Poor Service Quality: Extremely rude shampoo assistant who served another client first despite my earlier arrival No towel clip provided - towel fell and got hair dye all over my clothes Water splashed all over me and my clothing during the shampoo process Left sitting cold and wet under the air conditioning Stylist spent maybe 1 hour actually working on me out of the 3-hour appointment Unprofessional Billing Practices: Final charge: $265 for color cut and extension clipping Charged $75 just for clipping extensions in (no cutting or styling as originally quoted) Original quote was for cutting and styling extensions, which was never done When questioned about charges, stylist claimed she "spent all day with me" - when in reality I was waiting for her for 2 out of 3 hours Final Outcome: Left without tipping (which I never do) and walked out extremely upset. This salon has now lost not only a decade-long customer who spent $700+ monthly, but also my entire family's business and my boyfriend who regularly purchased products there. Would I Recommend? Absolutely not. The lack of professionalism, poor time management, and dishonest billing practices make this salon one to avoid, especially for important events. Susan... My Stylist Michael K. is absolutely the best. I get my hair blown and styled by Michael at least 2x a week. He is very consistent - and attentive to my personal needs. I always get a lot of compliments . And the blow out lasts for days! Dawn and Scotty (at the desk) always greet me with a smile and big Hello. Very welcoming. Not a great experience. My sister and I had appointments to have our hair curled because we had a wedding nearby. Staff was very nice but I didn't pay 125 dollars for a good conversation. The shampoo lady got water and soap all up and down my back and into my ears. When I told the stylist what I wanted, she told me it was a bad idea to curl my hair tight (I asked because I didn't want them to fall). Needless to say she literally botched simple curls and my hair was straight and frizzy for the wedding. read more

Terrible. Receptionist hung up on me while making an appointment. Booked me with the wrong hairdresser. Hairdresser was extremely arrogant and awkward- talked down to me and didn't listen to my haircut request. Didn't listen when I said I had a side part- gave me short layers-bangs with a MIDDLE PART- completely unacceptable AND using thinning shears without asking. Stay away. Great vibe so accommodating for your last minute appts! Joe is my color guard and Gary rocks my Keratin. Brows are Jessica's yob and does it well. It is my go-to salon here on the Island but you need to make an appointment because I am not the only one... durn. So it is with reservation that I recommend this salon because I LOVE a quiet full service attention and that is hard to get when it books up. Bad haircut from Mike. Nice ambiance that's about it. I looked around and all the stylists seemed to be doing other customers hair styles nicely but my hair stylist messed up my hair. It was my first time here but I didn't like I had a 4:30 appointment and had to wait over 25 minutes to be seated with my stylist. He cut my hair unevenly and horribly. Salon Rock is special and sweet, warm and welcoming, and very cool. You will feel so comfortable here. You won't want to leave. Love and pampering are built into all the services offered, no extra charge. Especially the shampoo team, OMG. Lounge chairs with your feet up! A head massage with your shampoo! Rafi and Gary treat everyone that enters their magnificent salon like family. They have not left a stone unturned to provide every comfort. I've been going to stylist for a while and then he moved to Florida. I had no idea where to go, my friend recommended me to go to visit salon rock and see Gary. This guy is very attentive to detail and I definitely felt the pride in his craft. I left feeling super happy. I highly recommend him if you have longish hair. The place is very nice and comfortable. When j was there i felt tingling and asked if it was normal and she said not in the nicest way that it fine. I went home and sure enough within an hour my head was on fire. ******ABSOLUTELY AMAZING EXPERIENCE****** I happened to be in town for a wedding and called last minute hoping to get an appointment. The girl who answered the phone was so sweet and accommodating. From the moment I walked in I felt so welcomed and everyone was so friendly! I was greeted by such a bubbly and sweet blonde when I walked in, and she was just the sweetest thing and made it such a fun experience from start to finish. Marcella did my hair and oh my goodness I felt amazing walking out of the salon. I went to the wedding and my hair by the end of the night still looked absolutely flawless. I brought my 5 year old daughter here for her first haircut yesterday and I was overall very pleased with the service. The staff was very friendly, her hairdresser was lovely and really took the time to make her feel special. I didn't feel rushed at all, in fact we were there for an hour! She felt like a pampered princess, they washed her hair, cut it and then blew it out and curled the ends (which only lasted until we walked out the door) haha my daughter has very thick straight hair. My review is really on the pricing. I had called beforehand based on the website it says child's haircut $25. When I called the receptionist confirmed that. I have gotten haircuts for a long time and the wash and blow are part of the cut. But when we checked out I was told $65. I mean, for a kids haircut this is just insane to me. She said that blowouts at the salon are $45, which of course I can understand for adults but as I said I called and wasn't told blow outs were a separate price. Now mind you, I didn't ask for it to be styled in anyway and her hair drys pin straight. I'm not sure of any parent who would pay $45 for a 5 year old to have their hair blown out- Just silly. So this is more of just so you know post, because I had no idea even after double checking. She lowered it to $55 for me when I mentioned that I was told $25 over the phone. It is what it is, like I said they were great but personally we won't be returning, for a child's haircut it's just too much. read more

I called 3 separate times and no one picked up. I checked to see if they were even open and they were! I understand that at times a salon can be busy so I spaced out my calls and they just never answered. If you're promoting that your open on Sundays, I would hope that you answer the phone! read more

SALON ROCK is not a beauty parlor! Okay, their clients are mostly women. But men come in there every day and I've never felt like I was crashing a girls club. Also, three men work here, alongside some female stylists. This place is located at the heart of old Roslyn. I've been going since they opened two years ago and the parking is easy, out front or in the village lot nearby. The glass back wall overlooks Roslyn Pond, filling Salon Rock with natural light, even on cloudy days. The interior is mostly white and the design sparkles. Floor is constantly swept and I have never seen this place in less-than-showroom condition. For me, coming here is a mood boost. It's quiet and relaxing... the welcome beverage and massaging shampoo can turn around a day that started out hectic. Owner Stephen has been doing this for many years and really knows how to run things. He's always there and his attention to detail is evident. The Salon Rock team is super well-trained and eager to please. Their service level is high -- even jaded Manhattan refugees appreciate!! read more

Having just moved back to Long Island from Chicago, it was a tough trying to figure out where to get my haircut. Luckily, yelp had a deal going on for Salon Rock and I scored $50 for a mere $30! Really, it was a fantastic deal. It's a small salon, but clean and stylish. Jacqueline, the hair stylist I got assigned to needed a minute, so I sat down by the entry. Carlos, another stylist actually came up to me, greeted me and made me feel welcome. The owner (can't remember his name) was very friendly as well. He even ran outside to feed my meter since I needed to add another quarter. That is customer service at it's best!!! Jacqueline listened to everything I wanted and made suggestions throughout the whole time. She was very funny and made me feel right at ease. What I really appreciated was that she told me how to style my hair for different occasions. My hair is super straight and she took her time making sure everything was perfect and even. Gina was amazing!!!! She is super professional... Very friendly... And unbelievably talented!! I came here for the first time because I was the maid of honor for my best friend's wedding in the area. As a creature of habit, it's hard for me to try new places! Gina was punctual (something I find rare in hair salons) and looked at the inspiration photo I brought and then took it to the next level. After one visit, I am confident that Salon Rock will be my go to for all of my hair needs. The salon itself is modernly decorated and clean. The staff is very nice and accommodating. I went with Jacklyn for my color (as per a friend's recommendation) and I was most pleased. Jacklyn is beautiful, personable and the first colorist in over a year to highlight me properly. Not only is the color great, but unlike many other colorists, she gave me blonde highlights that did not require a single process to lighten up my root area. Salon Rock deserves a 5 but unfortunately their prices are on the high side. My half head of highlights came to $146 (blow-out not included). This is the most I have EVER spent on a half head of highlights but I suppose I will have to splurge every 2.5 months if I want the job done right. read more

Got my haircut by Gary. After explaining what I wanted he confirmed that he understood. He then proceeded to completely ignore what was said and give me the haircut that he wanted to give and not what I wanted. I guess that was because it was easy and quick for him. It was way too short, unevenly cut and poorly executed. When he was finished my hair was standing up like I just rolled out of bed. I pointed that out to him. He sprayed my hair to wet it and handed me a comb!! No blow dry, no brush, no gel. I combed my hair and left the salon with wet hair. Amazed by the disrespect and lack of caring. First off the neighborhood if stunning. On my way there I was amazed by the architecture of the old homes. When I finally arrived to the salon and made my way inside, it was stunning. There are windows everywhere making the salon feel so open. The decor, paint on the walls, and accent art pieces gave the salon a beautiful modern touch. And the service was spot on! I asked Marissa to give me a face frame and nailed down exactly what I asked for down to the T. The color was painted on my hair to perfection. The sinks were so comfortable I wanted to take a nap as I was getting shampooed. Even the shampoo specialists had hands of an angel! Finally Ilyssa cut my hair and that woman gave my hair life ! My ends were dead and she cut off the perfect amount. The combination of haircut and color made my hair feel amazing even weeks after getting service. Most awful haircut of my life by the owner, Gary. It's so bad it's difficult to blow out my own hair, and I must leave it in a clip or in a pony at all times. I never leave a bad review, but owner of this salon was so rude I had to. Not only was the haircut awful, and exactly what I told him not to do, but he also put so much detangler in my hair that I walked out with oily hair. He gave me an appointment to come in to have it recut it but wasn't willing to have someone blow it out so I can see if it's ok. So I never went to have it cut again.
