While my dog was getting groomed near by, I searched for a nail place to get my eyebrows and toes done. Ambiance popped up and I decided to give them a try and I'm so glad I did! With a name like Ambiance and pretty decent reviews I expected to walk into a great atmosphere. I'm used to having a good experience when I get my nails done and being surrounded by... well, nice ambiance. So I tried this place and it was, as others have put it, very grimy and ragged. It looked like a hole in the wall with tattered chairs, peeling and discolored paint and random patches on the wall. This should have been a clue to leave but I try not to judge a book by its cover. Besides i came because reviews were very good. Unfortunately i probably should have judged it more harshly. While the staff was pleasant overall. I was also dumbfounded by their limitations. Specifically I asked for a French manicure with a chrome line and they were not able to do a chrome line. So I went with her suggestion of just a glittery line as shown below. It wasn't great looking. The lines were crooked and a bit off from the picture but not horrible. The nails also took about 2.5 hours to do. But the kicker for me was the price. This was a French full set and it costs $98. With tip I paid $110. I've never in life paid that much for such a simple design. Usually I get services that are more elaborate and the cost is usually around $85-90. But given that this is often accompanied by fruit and wine (or water) and a beautiful atmosphere it seems more than worth it. While the staff was pleasant, the atmosphere horrible and the results were mediocre, so this is definitely not a place I would visit again. read more

Grimy inside the store. Used old drill bits that were not clean. The gel lights were gross. No conversation, which was fine; but, she looked totally tired. It just felt rushed. She didn't even let me see my nail color until she was done paining one hand. I was only offered water after I started dry coughing into my arm. Got my natural nails powder dipped. Not thrilled with results. Manicurist did not push back cuticles or take the polish to the edge. She also only dipped the nails twice; other places do it 3 times. I'm very picky when it comes to color and usually speak up but in the past at other salons they don't seem to care. Let me start off by stating that I do not like wasting my time. I scheduled an appointment the day prior for 4 o'clock. I arrived at 3:50 and didn't get started until 35 minutes later. It was obvious that there was no technician available when I arrived, not sure why an appointment would be scheduled for a time knowing the customer would need to wait. So, I sit in the pedicure massage chair at 4:15 hoping for the best. I sit and wait for another person to arrive before any service begins. I know this review starts off negative BUT it took a significant turn. This may have been one of the best mani and pedi that I've had in a long time. Cindy did an amazing job. The gel polish was of quality and her attention to detail on the nail art design was top notch. She took the time to repair a few nails that I chipped along the way to prevent me for having to cut them entirely which was an added plus. Once done, my nails looked healthy, shiny and artificial to an extent. It appears that there are only three technicians which slows things down for appointments. The gel polish selections are not that extensive as other places and the interior is a bit dated with older chairs, nail stations, and massage chairs. Update: I've been here several times since the review above (delayed posting - was at 3 stars) to get manis and pedis by Cindy and the ladies are always friendly but it's time to find another place. The more I visited the more the service declined. The last visit was mediocre and it seems like Cindy is likely getting tired of me getting a basic pedi and gel mani. Also, during my manicure ants and other insects I couldn't identify kept crawling on me under the UV light. I settled because this place got the job done and wasn't such a far drive but unfortunately this last experience did it for me. read more

I am a longtime customer of Ambiance Nail & Spa however lately I'm questioning whether I want to go back. As someone who has breathing problems to come to the shop and the overpowering incense and cigarette smoke at the altar is too much. Those smells are so strong that it stays with you throughout the day. Not to mention dealing with that combination of smoke and incense when the Air conditioning was out while having to get serviced in the heat was unbearable. The loud uncensored music that plays is not a relaxing occasion. When I'm getting services I want to be at peace not feel like I'm at a bootleg hookah/club. I'm going to try it again but if it doesn't change I'll have to put my health first and take my money elsewhere. read more

I took my daughter to get manicures and pedicures. When we were first arrived asked to come back 40 later as they were busy. No problem. We came back. The pedicures were fine. I wasn't asked what level pedicure I wanted and ended up with just the basic. Not a big deal. The manicures are what I was extremely unhappy about. They were so sloppy. I had to have several nails on my daughter's hand fixed. I had polish on my cuticles, the edges are so uneven. Such a waste of money! Not happy at all. And the entire time Law & Order SUV was on the TV so my daughter had to hear a show about rape and murder while we were trying to have a nice day out. read more

I got my nails done and I loved it. It looked really good! Why three stars? Because the lady that was doing my nails stopped her work and decided to take care of another client, so someone else finished her job. NOT COOL! I took another star out because I am not sure if she cleaned the cuticle nippers. This is VERY serious. I don't want to make assumptions and say that she didn't clean it, but I didn't see it. Tom did my fill and pedicure and he did any amazing job with my request. I am very particular with how my nails are done. He shaped them perfectly. The salon is clean and massage chairs are awesome! I didn't get the woman who did my designs' name. But I wanted something "Aztec" yet simple, I wasn't trying to make it a big deal. Have driven by here so many times. After reading some online reviews, I decided to check it out. It is easy to miss if you don't pay attention. I got a gel manicure, would have loved to have a pedicure but the weather is miserable and I didn't want to leave wearing flip flops. The salon is clean. I was greeted immediately and was able to have my manicure right away. My nail technician was super friendly and awesome. She cleaned up my cuticles and gave me a great gel polish. Pretty large selection of gel colors. My nails look great. The price is comparable to others in the area. Yes, you can find cheaper places and there are others that charge more but for now I'm satisfied with the price and the way my nails look. I just went to Ambiance Salon for the first time, having just moved to VA from out of state. I used the reviews on Yelp to choose where I wanted to try first. I went to have an old acrylic set removed and a new full pick and white set done. Jenny took care of me, she was very patient and thorough removing the old set. No prying them off and causing damage to the nail beds, not to mention a lot of pain which I've had people do in the past. As for my new full set, it is without a doubt, the best set I've ever had done!! I am a nail biter and have had acrylics for 7+ years to keep me from biting. They are not too thick, or too thin, beautifully rounded edges and the most natural looking acrylics I have EVER had. I could not be more pleased with the salon and my experience today. I have had some good nail work done here and not so good. I went in for just a gel polish change and my nails look worse than when I walked in. It usually doesn't take long to get this done but this took over an hour and a half for just a polish change. The nail tech was super nice but I had a feeling she didn't know what she was doing. She about 4 layers on my nails which is the most I've ever had 2 is the most. I went in with more of a pointy than rounded nails and wanted it to remain that way but ended up round instead. Now the shape of my nail is totally different. All my nails are different shapes and thickness. They look sloppy. No very happy and will now have to go somewhere else to get it redone because I can't stand the way it looks. $40 down the drain. read more
