This is a small but mighty store. It has several departments including meat/seafood, produce, pizza, and deli. The store is super clean and has a nice atmosphere with clear signs, bright lights, and pleasant music. They have self-checkout stations, regular cashiers, and also cart technology that lets you just walk out and it automatically charges a credit card on file. They're so advanced! Staff are friendly and willing to help. Free parking up to a minimum outside on a surface lot that turns into a garage in the lower levels. read more

Amazon Fresh in Chevy Chase-Wisconsin Avenue (AFCCWA) has become me and my dining companion's go-to place to shop for much of our organic produce, organic pasture-raised eggs and meats, quality frozen seafood, and other random gems. To further draw us there (it is not that close for us), the staff is one of the most genuinely welcoming and helpful teams around, which is all the more surprising consider it being tied to one of the largest companies in the world. Not only are the team members helpful in assisting us the find items we are looking for, which is not that infrequent considering an item may be in between stocking or deliveries, many are available and very active to make assistance easily approachable. From the cashiers, to those who focus on specific departments, to those who work at customer service, and those who roam throughout the store, they all remember us and are part of making the shopping experience enjoyable! While our service experiences at the early phases of the store's opening felt a bit curt and simultaneously either shy or brusque, the team has hit their stride and really exemplifies customer service at its finest in a truly warm, helpful, and genuine manner. As for what we typically shop for at AFCCWA, it is an exception to our rule: a place where we get most of our weekly groceries because we are more in line with the traditional Asian and European style of shopping, i.e. going to multiple places to source the best of what each store has to offer. Having been introduced to AFCCWA after making some Amazon returns, we have found ourselves exploring more of the store and finding more terrific items across multiple sections of the store. Now, we make sure to visit the aisles for produce (lots of great organic fruits and vegetables), dairy, cheese/meat, frozen seafood, cereals/spices, and even general merchandise (e.g. OXO brand scissors and staples were on bargain sales!). As my DC notes, it is like "a treasure hunt!" That said, the main draw for us are the quality of the organic produce, pasture-raised eggs, and grass-fed milk/beef which rival the best in the area in terms of quality. However, the pricing is generally lower with rotating sales making the same items truly incredible deals! Since they have special pricing that changes periodically (running for multiple days) or even just one day, it helps doing a little "homework" (e.g. searching for sales items online) before going. All in all, AFCCWA is a real gem of grocery store with an exceptional staff who make the shopping experience more like that of visiting a friendly neighborhood market than a supermarket that is part of a corporate behemoth. Plus, with amazing sales and fascinating random finds, AFCCWA keeps us coming back for both our regular staples and an eye for new items alike! read more

I am rather surprised at the somewhat hostile reviews for this convenient and low priced supermarket option. They have consistently great coupons and sales particularly for Amazon Prime members and also process returns fairly efficiently. Cashiers are friendly and self checkout options work without a hitch also. As far as the food goes just know that it's not as premium as Whole Foods but there's enough here where it can probably take care of 80 pct or more of your day to day grocery needs. They have some very good options for beef / pork / poultry; seafood can be more limited beyond frozen options branded Amazon. Hot food is iffy aside from the chicken. Nice added bonus is my kids love donuts and they regularly price these below $1. Smaller store than the other Chevy Chase location but quicker to get in and out of between smaller size and above ground parking. Overall a very good spot. read more

Several years after its initial opening, too many of the staff of this store continue to have an attitude. They are invariably lazy, uninformed and rude. Following another unpleasant encounter with one of the cashiers last night, I was reminded why I hate coming to this store. Terrible experience repeatedly at store. And, yesterday was just the latest example. I ordered online five jars of Hellsman mayonaisse, 32 oz, size, and picked it up at the store after taking two buses to get there. When I got home and opened the sealed bag, I discovered that I had received five jars of the Amazon store brand, "365" in 16 oz size. Not only wasn't it the brand that I had ordered but not even the right size. (Footnote: when I placed the online order I clearly checked the box that indicated that NO substitutes would be acceptable.) Because I needed the mayonaisse right away to make a dish for a community meeting, I was forced to make a run to a neighborhood market. When I then tried to resolve the matter with Amazon Fresh later in the day, I learned that there are no telephone numbers for the stores. Moreover, you can only contact Customer Service at Amazon via a "chat." And, after more than a half hour on the chat, the agents--Dinraz and Velvet -- would not replace the order with the correct item. They just kept on saying that there was nothing they could do. They both indicated that they could not deliver what I had ordered and tried to make it seem as though the item, Hellsman mayonaise, was no longer available at Amazon. Of course, a review of the Amazon Fresh website showed that that statement was a big fat lie. So now we know. Great prices! The selection for name brand items is sometimes limited compared to like a regular Giant l, but for what they do have the prices are always so much cheaper. The other day I saved almost $25 compared to Giant or Wegmans, buying items that were not on sale, the regular Amazon price was just that much cheaper. $2.09 less for Pepperidge bread, $2.59 less for Yasso frozen yogurt bars, etc.The store is always clean, the staff are usually very helpful. A better experience today. The auto carts was very cool. Start by scanning your personal code from your Amazon app into the cart. Just place the items in the cart and they are scanned. To weigh something the care itself will zero and then place the item in the cart and it weighs it. Fast and easy. Roll out the special exit area and you are charge in your account then leave. read more

It's genuinely baffling to me that this store is still in business. The produce section is good; virtually every other shelf is consistently half empty, or more. Basics and staples are regularly missing, in any brand. The staff at customer service is lovely, but the cashiers range from surly to outright hostile. I visited this Amazon Fresh to return some Amazon items. The store had so many bare shelves it was eerie, like shopping in an apocalypse. It was depressing. I did notice several employees by the vegetable stands examining them for freshness and replacing them with fresh vegetables. The staff, contrary to some other reviews, were so helpful! There was even a floating store employee who was going around the store to make sure that shoppers were being helped. I received a $10 of $40 coupon for returning my items to the store, but I could not find $40 worth of items to buy. I ended up buying some roasted chicken, which was a big mistake, because they tasted like they had been reheated a few times, probably because low shopper traffic. read more

I was looking forward to checking it out, but many shelves were empty, many prices didn't seem competitive. The overall vibe of this place is very no frills, and a little depressing. This is the only grocery store that is close to the Friendship Heights Metro Station. That was the primary reason why I came here today. I was basically on foot and commuting via the metro, so my options were somewhat limited in terms of places to get lunch. I immediately wasn't a fan when I realized after the second that I walked in, that so would need to climb up a flight of steps. I went over to the deli section in hopes of finding some ready-made cold sandwiches, but their options were extremely limited. They had plenty of sushi and pizza slices, but not too much when it came to jist healthy sandwiches. I settled on a prepared chicken Cesar wrap. I was around $6.00 and quite small to be honest. It appeared as though they carry most of the basic items as any other grocery store, but the store seemed a little too sterile and plain for my liking. read more

I had a mishap today where my order was cancelled due to a system glitch but the manager on duty, Tameka and associates Kerry and Teaona were able to resolve the issue and saved my Thanksgiving! Worthless - Worthless - Worthless. Looks like the inside of a typical Soviet market in the 1950s. Shelves barely stocked - only 1/2 the pasta section held, you know, pasta. The meat section - I am not kidding here - had literally ONE tiny little steak sitting all by its lonesome self, in a meat area that would hold at least several hundred cuts of meat if only actually, you know, stocked. Seriously, who the hell wants to shop in a place like this? Why would I or any sane person ever want to go back to this joke of a "supermarket?" There are at least 6 well stocked Giants, Safeways and Trader Joes, all within a one mile radius of this so-called "supermarket." At the Giant, the meat actually held, you know, MEAT. At Safeway too. And each also had, you know, acrtual pasta in the pasta section. What a concept. Ever see the 1970s dystopian classic film "Soylent Green," with Charlton Heston? In it, the owner of a meat market shows Heston into his backroom where, there in a special sealed refrigerator is - one tiny steak. Heston and Edward G. Robinson then make an epic beef stew out of it. The screenwriters of Soylent Green must have had visions of this 2022 Amazon Fresh. If I ever decide to write a book, and want to get a feel for what life must have been like for ordinary Soviet citizens in the Stalin-eras of the 1940s and 1950s, I will go to the 5463 Wisconsin Avenue Amazon Fresh to do my research. And then I will know. I will understand how those old Soviets must have felt, when they walked into a super-duper-large supermarket to see its large meat counters hold...one steak. read more

I have been waiting for this Amazon fresh to open for quite some time. I I'm glad they are finally open and they have ample parking. They offer two lots and 2-hour parking. Everything is fresh and clean and the lighting is excellent. I got to spin the wheel out front for something free! I also found a wonderful fresh kitchen where I was able to get a late lunch. They have a great special 2 slices and a vitamin water for about $5. I will be back. read more

Expired food in the prepared foods section, which you sort of wouldn't expect from the master of inventory control. (Photo taken on August 6) Self scanning cart is not recommended if you buy much produce (constantly having to look up items which doesn't save you time but saves Amazon staff salary space) or if you buy much of anything. Cart only fits two bags so if that's all you buy, this might work for you. For rest of us, plenty of other options. read more

This Amazon Fresh just opened last week, located in the former Giant space in Friendship Heights and pretty much across the street from the Whole Foods.  The AF is clearly not going to be competing with WF in any way, but to compete with regular grocery stores (although it does carry some 365 brands - frozen fish, sliced cheese etc). After a brief visit today however I'd say that at this point, other than whatever new opening promos that might result in some deals, there's nothing much that makes it stand out. First off, the bakery - not a lot of selections and good luck if you want the bread sliced.  Items in the refrigerated sections - butter, cream cheese, cold cuts - all seem to have very short expiration dates, most in less than a month, and also many items have already run out, such as unsalted butter.  Selection of stuff like shampoo and toothpaste very limited as well - not as many brands as in any other chain grocery stores.  produce prices not too bad however. Credit card readers at checkout don't seem to have the wifi function which is odd.  So, a rather disappointing first experience - hopefully things will improve with time, this being still the first week of opening - after all the shopping environment is nice - wide aisles, bright colored shopping carts, and plenty of free parking (2 hours). read more

This store replaced the old Giant at Friendship Heights. There's nothing so special about it. Doesn't seem like much traffic is happening yet. The prices are pretty normal, but you could probably get better deals at the bigger chains. Wanted to buy the in house tomato pesto but when I picked it up got oil all over my hands- not sealed properly. For a new business, there's usually something to grab your attn but everyone seems bored and it's overall pretty meh. It's good to have more than Whole Foods in a neighborhood, but I'm not sure they'll last very long at this rate. I wish I could say more, but there's literally nothing to say. read more

Have been here a few times and like it although I can understand that it's hard to say why / how this store is unique other than the cool techie factor of shopping carts that track your purchases. Does not yet feel like it knows what its niche / angle is. Spacious and well laid out. Prices are comparable to Whole Foods. Staff are friendly. Am reviewing because Amazon doesn't know how to deliver. I pay for Prime delivery and my items got handed off to the postal service. There was baby formula in that delivery that my granddaughter didn't get. She's on a special kind. If Amazon can't deliver in a reasonable time then what? Replace the item? Amazon Fresh, 5463 Wisconsin Ave Chevy Chase, MD Why did Yelp hide my review posted on March 17 of this year? This was a legitimate review about a large unleashed dog wandering around the store. I expressed my concern about the apparent indifference of the staff, and the potential health and safety hazard this situation may pose. My post was not disrespectful or untruthful. It is very disturbing to see Yelp arbitrarily removing reviews. To make matters worse, I went back to this establishment today (April 19). And once again, I saw another dog in the store. This time the dog was on a leash, but it was not a service dog. In fact, I have a photo as proof in case management takes an interest and decides to do something about it. Please remember that this is a grocery store, not a pet store. And it would be easier for irresponsible pet owners to remember this important detail if this store made the effort to post appropriate signage explaining that only service dogs (not untrained animals) are allowed. I would remind management that not everyone is comfortable around untrained dogs in a store. read more

It seems ironic that an Amazon-branded store would have such a limited selection, but there you go. The only reason I visited this location was that I had a generous coupon for Amazon Prime day, and because living in WDC has made me more neurotic about saving money than ever, I couldn't pass this up. If you're not looking for anything too exotic you should be fine shopping here. The aisles are small and packed, but often with only one or two options of a particular item, so unless you know exactly where to look, it might take a little longer than at most supermarkets to track down your needs. Price-wise most things are comparable to other supermarkets, though you might find some surprises - I've never seen (organic) kale for less than $3 a bunch, and it's $2.22 here (for a fairly normal size) and a box of 6 Clif bars is $6.99 (too bad I literally decided to stop eating Clif bars because of their sugar content a couple of weeks ago). As noted by others, its a small space, and my major critique is of the layout - the lines to pay snake through the shopping aisles. I was battling with both fellow shoppers of granola and shoppers waiting to pay to try to find a low sugar granola (the best I could do was the 365 brand - yes that makes an infrequent appearance here). There's a whole line of Amazon vegan "meats" but I didn't go for that, just an interesting observation. Given how out of my way this is, I won't be shopping here regularly. I love the idea of putting items in my backpack, scanning my palm, and leaving the store without going through a traditional check out. But...if you have a question about anything such as items listed on the web but not in the store, expect a rude and impatient response. Not sure where Amazon is getting these store associates but they could use customer experience training. Does anyone at Amazon understand the lifetime value of a customer - I'm not so sure! Just being 100% honest with this store. I was COMPLETELY underwhelmed coming here. I have never been to an amazon fresh store before so I was excited to come here and really didnt know what to expect. Parking is the nearest garage and they validate parking so that was no problem. When I walked in, I expected SO much more. There was a lack of variety of options in the store, they were out of stock of many things and it was nothing significant about this store, majority of the items I wanted they didnt sell. I could've went to Whole Foods because it's basically the same store but better. If it's suppose to be an Amazon Fresh store, I'm expecting more and this Chevy Chase location didn't do that. read more

Oftentimes shelves are bare, no prices are visible, no employee is present at customer service desk and gig workers who can be shopping for multiple parties navigate their huge Cadillac sized carts in the center of aisles. There are 2 entrances to the store. The first is outside the parking lot; the second on Western Avenue. For countless months, the elevator was out of order. It was disturbing to enter on the Western Ave level, climb up a long steep staircase, make purchase, and carrying bags down these stairs. FINALLY elevator has been repaired. Now all they have to do is stock shelves, accurately price products and staff customer service desk with personnel that doesn't either ignore or run from customers read more

I used the Amazon app's "order ahead" pizza to choose two pizzas, with the exact toppings my kids and friends wanted. Went to the store 20 minutes later to find they hadn't even put these in the oven. "I don't see it in my computer," the pizza staff person protested. I went to the service desk, and someone told me the computer always works -- laughable after all the problems I've had at other Amazon Fresh locations. Eventually found the pizza order, which had apparently gone to the wrong station. (How can that be? There's only one place in the store where pizza is made.) But now I'm supposed to wait 20 more minute while the pizza is made and cooked? Crazy. Manager emerged after 10+ minutes. "I can give you 15% off your other items," he offered, as if that was going to satisfy me. A correct response would have been "Let me give you this coupon for four free pizzas next time" or "Let's find some other options that will work for your group, and we'll honor all of them for the price of the pizzas we didn't make." Amazon is a great company in large part because it usually does right by customers. Amazon Fresh has some great products, including this pizza which my kids genuinely enjoy, and some great produce. But what hopeless IT and operations. And at this location, especially hopeless staff. This is not what makes Amazon great. This part of the company is failing and, based on what I've seen, deserves to fail. read more

While I regret the departure of the previous Giant store, I've mostly been pleased when shopping in this Amazon Fresh store. It's true it started out with very little variety in brands and food types, but that has improved. I find it spacious. Many of their prices are lower than those of the main grocery stores for the same products, including Whole Foods, Safeway, and Giant. Their rotisserie chickens are excellent -- flavorful and at $4.97 a bargain, compared to the price of rotisserie chickens at the other grocery stores. Their classic humous and some of their soups seem to be the same product as carried in Whole Foods, just with a different label slapped on them, and cost considerably less. I've found the employees to be courteous and mostly as though they're glad to be working there. I would add, however, that there are no phone numbers that lead directly to this store or any Amazon Fresh stores -- if you want to check if a certain product has come in yet, for example. The only phone number is the 800 number and the two questions you can get answered there deal with orders you have placed. If you haven't placed an order but have a question about what's happening at a particular store, you're out of luck. That decision shows poor judgment on the part of the Amazon Fresh leadership. read more
