We purchased cupcakes and they were carefully, packaged., and very good. We ordered a $55 cake and it was handed to me like this. When I asked the young lady how I was supposed to refrigerate it she just shrugged--she seemed to have gotten that question a few times and didn't have an answer. It's my fault for not knowing these cakes are so tall. However, when we ordered the cake the same young lady was not very helpful. I will caveat this with my review has no reflection of the staff as I purchased Amaru's goods resale through another vendor. I will say that on multiple occasions, I found the quality, taste, and form of the 'cina-saint' cinnamon roll to be hands down the best I've encountered in my lifetime. I drove from Eagle to the North End to enjoy them. So much so, that I had to inquire multiple times baristas at the coffee shop to ascertain where they were sourced. It ruined all other cinnamon rolls for me. It ruined all other frosting for me. Now that I know what one can taste like, everything else just feels... disappointing. I dreamed about these stupid things! The first time I came here was to try the rainbow cupcake, unfortunately I came too early and they hadn't set them out yet so I got a vanilla sprinkle and a raspberry vanilla. The second trip I was able to get the rainbow cupcake. The cupcakes are beautifully presented in a small plastic container that is almost hard to get rid of because it's a huge waste of plastic. But nonetheless I understand the necessity and purpose so the cupcakes are held securely. I don't have much to say about the first two. They were very pretty but nothing way too out of the ordinary. The rainbow cupcake however was absolutely breathtaking! The colors blended perfectly together creating a smooth rich texture I found very satisfying to look at. The inside was very pretty as well. Something you may want to be aware of is that these cakes are primarily focused on being the prettiest creations in the room and not necessarily the best tasting food. This gluten-free cake absolutely rocked my socks without making me sick and it was more than filling for the number of people I ordered for. It's weirdly difficult to find a good cupcake in my area. Maybe I'm picky, but I find that a lot of the popular cupcakeries make a cake that's dry and granular, with a stiff crumb. I can't figure out what gives--if cupcakes are your specialty, why are they so bad?! Amaru is the lovely exception. We ordered a vanilla and a lemon base cake, and both were light and soft, with a small, densely moist crumb. They held together in a marvelously fluffy way. They also *tasted* great, which is just as important. As for frosting, it's a version of buttercream, though I suspect it uses at least some shortening, based on the luster and consistency. It's not at all the commercial frosting we've become generally resigned to, i.e. some bizarre, overly-sweet sugar paste that tastes of chemicals. The frosting flavors here are a bit understated, and I think they could be amped up a bit to match the cupcakes, but the sweetness level is just right. Note that the cakes are stored in a refrigerated case: the frosting should soften up and be a nicer consistency if you let it sit for a while. We ate at the shop, but would have been happier if we'd taken our desserts home. There's also a variety of macarons, cookies, cinnamon rolls, filled croissants, and some other goodies I didn't note specifically. The macarons were just ok--that said, next time I need a cake, I know exactly where I'm going. read more

So bummed how this super easy/simple cake turned out & how thoughtless/poorly it was all put together. The fondant wasn't even smoothed out on the top, you could see exactly where the 1/2 polka dots were cut or left cut marks in (as you can see pictured), the placement of them also drove me crazy trying to take a "good picture" (again as you can see pictured), and the fondant balls at the bottom around the cake were all cracked. First let me say that this review is only due to an ordering issue and how that was handled. Their cakes and cupcakes are amazing, and I'm sure that the ones we received today were top notch as well, but I feel compelled to share what I feel is unfair treatment given my order was not fulfilled properly. I emailed a custom cupcake order a few weeks in advance of needing them. The email contained orders for 2 different pick up dates. The first one was for vanilla bean cake and plain buttercream frosting with light birthday sprinkles (all written from the choices on their website). When I went to pick up these cupcakes (for my boys' school birthday party), I was presented with a variety pack of 12 cupcakes. I was confused because I ordered 12 of the exact same cake/frosting/sprinkles. And due to the fact that I was using these for the school party they had to be nut and cinnamon free which is why I ordered them plainly and all the same. I told the person that was working the pickup/register that those weren't what I ordered and she pulled out the "order sheet" which said "variety" on there. However, I never had or filled out an order sheet as I had an email that was responded to and confirmed indicating the vanilla ones. I called in to give them my credit card and she informed me that I probably said "variety" when I phoned with my credit card. But this isn't true as all I did was provide my credit card number and referred to the email order when I called in. When I told her this, she told me it's too hard to keep track of which emails go to which phone calls... I don't understand that comment. To finish this off, 4 of the 12 cupcakes contained cinnamon, so I asked her to remove those. Then she said that she had prepackaged cupcakes that I can buy to replace the 4. Buy?? Seriously? Given there are 12 kids in the class, I felt I had no choice but to replace the cinnamon ones and she continued to proceed to charge me for the replacement ones. I feel that this is very unfair given my order wasn't fulfilled properly based on what I ordered. So I guess long story short, just make sure you confirm your order with them properly to avoid what I just went thru. read more

We were in luck Saturday afternoon as they had three Cinn-A-Sant rolls left. What exactly is the Cinn-A-Sant? Think gooey cinnamon roll with nuts and frosting on top... yum! You can't eat it there as the location isn't set up for patrons which was fine with us, preferred to take it home and warm it up a bit before devouring it. I can't believe I'm going to admit this, it's heartwrenching, but...both my girls and I had to throw out our 3 cupcakes today. Despite living 3 blocks away I'd never been inside this bakery because the dark windows feel so unwelcoming, but today I wanted to surprise the girls with a treat so I picked up 2 unicorn cupcakes and a white chocolate raspberry cupcake for myself. My guy had bought me a gluten free gingerbread cupcake here around Christmas and I thought it was awful, but I chalked it up to being gluten free. First, NO ONE, and I mean NO ONE wants to eat a cold cupcake that is dry and hard. And, no one wants to wait 40 mins to eat a cupcake, especially 2 9-year olds.
