This restaurant is gorgeous located in one of the best spot in Toronto. The indoor decoration got me. However, the food is nowhere close to what you expect from the restaurant at this class. The appetizer meet certain standard level, I loved the Fattoush and Amal Hummus was good, but strong smell on the meat. The main course we got BBQ mix but both chicken and meat were dry. The desert we got Kanafah, no good at all. Anyhow, would recommend the place for once, but wouldn't come back here. The service is great, with friendly staffs. Unfortunately Amal failed to impress our group. Food is ok and basic, in fact many dishes were just bland and missing flavours expected from Lebanese cuisine. We returned two dishes that were frankly inedible including the tartar (kibbeh naiyeh). If this is your first time trying some of these dishes please don't judge Lebanese cuisine accordingly. The spreads were great to share however the BREAD, a staple of any Lebanese bistro was a true disappointment. It was cold by the time it reached the table and lacked any gluten to maintain some elasticity after it cooled. There's still some growing pains to go through of course as it is a new restaurant. Our mains were delayed and we were told they had burned our fish and were doing it again. Service was great and fairly attentive. We were offered 2 appetizers to compensate for the delay in mains, and to be honest, our group was having a good time we didn't notice the delay in the first place. The vibe in the room is great. Decor, lighting, music and ambiance in general are all spot on. This will be the reason to be back perhaps for a cocktail or and an appetizer on the bar. read more

Just enjoyed my first time at Amal with a coworker. So grateful she introduced me to this restaurant as the food was outstanding. We had all the "normal" dishes that everyone has raved about (trio of dips, the flakey rolled with honey deliciousness etc). And the food was everything you have all raved about on these reviews. Really good flavors. And the decor! So so very lovely. Tasteful. Felt luxurious/fine dining. Had a romantic vibe to it. Service at bar and table was top notch. The waiter knew exactly when/how to interrupt our conversation for progress in the meal. Honestly, some of the best service I've had in some time. So why the 3 stars? The day I walked in, it was 13 degrees Fahrenheit outside. Let me translate for my Canadian readers here: that's wicked cold. And every single woman working in Amal was wearing the skimpiest of garments. Paper thin dresses and wicked short skirts. So short that I saw a few repeatedly pulling on them in the back. It was far below freezing and this was their uniform?!?!? What were the men wearing you may ask now (as I did). Want to guess? Long pants. Long sleeves. A couple in suits (managers?). I asked a couple of the women if they had other uniform options because it is officially ridiculous to be wearing anything less than the men in this weather. All replied "no". This was the female uniform. Frankly, I'm so very sad for the women servers and hostesses at Amal. If they choose to wear these garments, then good on them! And each of them was gorgeous. But let's be clear: they do not CHOOSE to wear these. They are instructed to do so. And we all know why. Shame on the management of Amal for this obvious disparity that was made ridiculously clear in such frigid weather. You can do better. Please reconsider your treatment of these women. A wonderful addition to this neighborhood as I don't think they have a high end spot in this area for this cuisine. The space itself is gorgeous like the previous spot that occupied this space and the menu seems to cover all bases to meet most dietary restrictions. The wine and drink list is decent as well though priced on a higher side as expected. We ordered to share so had the dip trio and skewer platter. Dips were decent with baba ganough and muhammara being good iterations of what they ought to represent. The skewer platter was good and seasoned well. The garlic sauce (Toum) packed a nice punch which is appreciated. So if I were to rate this spot on food and ambiance this is a solid 4 stars. Now comes the bad part unfortunately they have brought the negatives from the previous spot as well i.e. bad front end service! We asked for outdoor seating on the reservation due to the pandemic as prefer outdoor besides the nice weather needs to be enjoyed but we were seated inside being told oh its all booked. After being seated inside for a bit and seeing all these empty tables we asked to be moved outside and sure no problem there we were moved outside no issues and found some of seating empty even when we were leaving. I guess if one wants to save this space for a certain 'clientele' just cordon it off and call it a day but don't say you don't have outside seating while there is plenty to paying clients! The table service was decent though a bit inconsistent and became overwhelming as we were asked 3 times whether we are done within a 10 min time span towards the end of the meal. OK I guess you want to turn the tables but don't make anyone feel they have to leave! 3 Stars and that's mainly due to the subpar service which if one is to go by the previous spot is immune to change! read more

Went for dinner with some friends who are about to get married. We got the truffle rakakat, crispy eggplant, Amal's falafel, chicken tawook, and grilled octopus. Everything was extremely delicious. The truffle rakakat, in partifular, is a must-try. The chicken tawook is made with chicken breasts but it is cooked so tender that it feels like dark meat! They were also extremely courteous. The grilled octopus came out just a little bit late (we weren't even bothered and didn't say anything) but they came out and told us that it would be on the house since it came out late. We went during summerlicious and we were not disappointed! The ambiance of Amal was lovely, filled with happy noises, lot of couples on date nights, just magical. The service was excellent, our server was very attentive and explained all the dishes and offered suggestions. Very pretty restaurant and comfortable seating, great ambience. Everything is pleasing to the eye from the interior design, to the plating of the food and the cocktails. However the flavour is really lacking. Don't think it was really great food, definitely had better. Lamb was not tender or flavourful, chicken was dry. Cod didn't have much flavour either. What a gorgeous spot!! I've been SO excited to try this place and finally came for brunch. Tried the TRUFFLE RAKAKAT ( honey | grapes | mint | pistachios). This is beyond delicious. I could've had like 6 of these and who knew that warm grapes was even a thing?! The BABA GHANOUSH( roasted eggplant purée | tahini | lemon) is way overpriced for $13 for like 2 big spoonful's. Not the best I've ever had, def would not get again. Then I tried the STRAWBERRY QATAYEF ( lebanese pancake | strawberries | ashta | toasted almonds | orange blossom syrup). Again for $14 this was way overpriced for what I got. I didn't really know what to expect and I thought I would get beautiful fusion pancakes. But it ended up being 2 small COLD pancakes with some cold cream inside and like 1 single strawberry diced up on top. This is an overpriced mom and pop Kabab joint, selling you the same koobideh, or kafta, or minced beef for 3 times the price. The price is not only the issue, you would get better service at McDonalds. They take your coat at the entrance, a valet type. They give you a ticket; they hang it out outside the restaurant, and you are responsible for taking it on your way out there. The servers, although many around, but there are mostly for the show. We got our drinks after appetizers and had to ask for it twice. We also asked for a split cheque, and they said why don't you make it in half? And the worst part is that the server waits on top of your head to enter the tip amount. I would have given them a two, in case there was anyone responsible in charge. There was a gentleman, well built, seemed to be the manager of some sort. When we were leaving the place, he was having a drink himself, and we were waiting to see what shall we do with our tickets to get our coats. Waiting there for around 5 minutes, we decided to take our coats ourselves. Discovered others were doing the same. The dishes are too salty, and that's was unanimous at our table. And I am the kind of guy that put slat before tasting anything. The selection of deserts were not tempting too, you couldn't find anything with chocolate. And there was a entree that was supposed to come with "Barbari", special bread from Iran. And we asked about it twice, but didn't get the bread at all. We also asked for a box to take the fries once our server suggested why not eat it or put it on top of in another container. Insta worthy interiors and such a good vibe both on the patio and indoors. The service was nice and attentive, and we had reserved our spot in advance. We were a bit late by 10 minutes but they were understandingand we were seated immediately. We went here for brunch and ordered 5 food items and 2 drinks to share among the 2 of us - Shakshuka, Manoush (Zataar and cheese mixed), Foul and Seared Halloumi. My fav was the halloumi and the Shakshuka - the rest of the things were decent. The portions were good and the flavours were pretty authentic Labanese. Really stunning and breathtaking interior. Great for pictures. The fattoush salad is my favourite thing on the menu... and I'm not a salad person at all. The lime juice in the tabouleh is quite strong though so be wary of that (wasn't my fav thing). Shish tawok is juicy, it does have a smokey bittery after taste but I like that. Pistachio kebab is also a delight (didn't order it but tried it off of a friend's plate and it didn't disappoint ). We were welcomed by the general manager Johnny who led us to our reserved table. The waitress Alina provided an amazing service and took a few artistic pictures of the group. From all of the places you can possibly go in the Yorkville area Amal restaurant is by far my favourite. Both front of the house and back of the house staff make this experience unique. The management team is also made up of all-star material : Charlie, Amanda, Johnny, Corey and Eva are some of the best leaders I've seen. Overall, I highly recommend this venue.
