There were 4 of us for dinner at Amal last night. This was the first time for all of us. We arrived for a 7pm reservation at around 6:55pm. We were seated and then greeted right away by our waitress. She gave us menus, but then didn't come back for about 15-20 minutes to take our drink orders. We each ordered a cocktail and they arrived within 5 mins. and all looked amazing. We had the Marissa Harissa which wasn't mine but I swapped for it because it was so tasty lol. It was spicy and a little sour and a little sweet. Very yum! I had ordered the Velvet Figue, which was tasty but a ittle on the sweet side for me. We also had the Amal Old Fashioned which was fantastic. My husband and I both said it was one of the best Old Fashioneds we'd ever had. The last one was the Amal Espresso Martini which was good but unremarkable. We waited about 20 minutes before our food orders were taken. We ordered several things to share. The first round came out around 10 minutes after ordering, which was good. We had the dip sampler and chose the hummus basil, baba ganoush and muhamarrah. The hummus basil was wonderfully smooth and had a great basil flavour. The baba ganoush was nice and creamy. The muhamarrah had a very nice flavour but was very sweet which was a little off-putting to me. I didn't hate it, but wouldn't order it again. We had the kibbeh which was fantastic. The texture and flavour were both perfect. We also had the spicy fingerlings which were great! They were very spicy and the sauce was lemony and so delicious. I actuallly mixed some with my muhamarrah to cut the sweetnss and that really helped. The rest of the food took about 20 minutes to arrive (after we finished the appetizers). We had the skewer platter for two and it was so delicious. The pistachio kabab was out of this world good. My sister doesn't usually enjoy lamb, but she liked this. It was spiced perfectly. The other two were very good too. We had the vermicelli rice, which was very nice. I make this at home so I'm familiar with it and really enjoyed it. The texture was perfect. Lastly, we had the pickle plate which was very interesting. The eggplant pickle was different from any pickle I've had before and was quite firm, which I wasn't expecting. It was tasty. We ordered a bottle of Lebanese red wine which was a very nice accompaniment to the skewers. All in all, it was a lovely evening. Our server was very nice and friendly and the food and drinks were very good. The 4-star rating is partly because of the very slow speed at which the food came out. This was my second time visiting Amal for Sunday brunch. It's tucked away on the second floor at 131 Bloor West and offers a modern Lebanese dining experience with a bright, airy interior, high ceilings, and beautiful Middle Eastern design details. The space really is stunning. You feel like you've stepped into something special once you're inside. It wasn't busy and we were seated right away without a wait. Food also came out quickly, which I appreciated. I ordered a latte and the Lebanese Omelette with tomatoes, green onions, capsicum, parsley, home potatoes, and pickled serrano, plus a side of 4 pieces of beef bacon. The latte was okay, nothing memorable. The omelette had good flavour and nice seasoning, but overall I found the dish a little dry. The beef bacon was probably my favourite part, especially with the little pops of pomegranate sprinkled on top, which added a subtle sweetness and texture. One thing that stood out this visit unfortunately wasn't the food. The textile bench cushions where I was seated were visibly stained and fairly worn. They were also uneven in height, and my table was positioned right over two different cushions. I ended up stuffing a pillow under one side just to avoid feeling lopsided the entire meal. It's a small detail, but in a restaurant that presents itself as polished and upscale, those touches matter. Overall, brunch was fine. Good, but not excellent. The food came quickly, flavours were pleasant, but it didn't wow me. That said, I've heard their dinner service is where Amal really shines, with a more expansive mezze selection and elevated dishes, so I'd be open to returning in the evening to experience the restaurant at its best. read more

We went there for Father's Day with my daughter taking out for brunch here. It's located in the Yorkville Bloor area and the interior decor and ambience is lovely. Muted and with shades of middle eastern. Vibes without being overpoweringly so. The servers and hosts were dressed in uniforms ( white and beige) that seamlessly blended into the surroundings. And the service was rip notch as well. The food was amazing. Especially the shawarma. The best presented shawarma I had seen and the taste was similarly good as well. The halloumi was seared to perfection. All in all a great experience. And the final bill was pretty cost effective. Was back again for post dinner drinks and snacks. Had the chicken wings which were surprisingly good. These will be added to the rotation. 3 dips was good as usual. Tip: you can ask for more pitas and chips. They give you so much dip there is no way you can adequately use it all with the first set of chips and pitas. Sausage was not that good. Came here for lunch around noon on a Thursday. Maybe a quarter of the restaurant was filled. My service was fast and friendly This spot came on my radar primarily for the pistachio kababs. I'm also a huge fan of muhammara, so I opted to switch the hummus that comes with the plate for that. They apply a $4 charge to do so The kababs were solid. The meat was flavorful and had a nice soft texture. The pistachio didn't really compliment that well in my opinion, I definitely enjoyed the bites with less pistachio more when I included some of the onion As you might have guessed with a spot like that, the muhammara does not pack too much of a punch spice wise. It was still nutty and tasty, but doesn't compare to what I've bee as at more mom and pop type places. The weakest part of the dish was unquestionably pita. 3 very thin floppy pieces that had no chance of picking up any sort of dip. Imagine if a school lunch happened to include pita Overall not my favorite dining experience in my visit to Toronto. My guess is a lot of the praise around the spot is the decor, which was very nice, but not really what brings me to a restaurant. My partner surprised me with reservations for Amal for my birthday. Initially, I was a bit hesitant because we had a bad experience with another high-end Lebanese restaurant a few months prior, however, we had the best time ever! We had a hard time picking what we wanted, and decided on skewers for two, which included two pistachio kabas (beef and lamb), one tawook, and one veal tenderloin. The dish also came with a side of fries. We found the meat very tender and flavourful, and I could not stop eating the leftover pistachios. We also got to try the truffle rakakat - which included honey, grapes, mint, and pistachios. I'm glad we were able to try this because it's one of those dishes we would order next time! The dish was rich, sweet, and again, I could not stop eating it. Service was very quick, friendly, and attentive. We were very full after the rakakat and kababs, but the restaurant gave us date cake at the end of our meal to celebrate my birthday. All around, a very very good experience. My wife is half Lebanese and she loved the food. It reminded her of her grandmothers cooking. The atmosphere was lively and I enjoyed to styling of the establishment. The room was a bit loud at times but overall still enjoyable. Our service was excellent and timing was spot on. Then at the end of the meal they seemed to have forgotten about us after they took away the dishes, since they didn't offer the dessert menu for us to see and it also took a while to get the bill. The dining experience and service pushes it to a 4 star but the food itself was more of a 3. We had the baba ghanoush, the monk salad, fried fish and the grilled octopus. The baba ghanoush was more yogurt based, missing out on the potential of really highlighting the grilled eggplant flavor. The monk salad was the standout of the night, very bright and fresh with a good balance of vinegar. The fried fish was good, but we were a bit confused as our server advised that we would have to debone it ourselves. I expected a full fried fish (which I can handle) but when it came to the table it was definitely just a fillet. Made reservations for two in advance, and we were seated right away. I wish I had an option to check jackets because I had a really big winter jacket on when I went here and it was hanging off the chair based on where we were sat. I also didn't like that. We were so close to the station and I left there with my jacket smelling like food which I don't like. It's located upstairs and it's a little difficult so just be aware that it's not easy as you think it is. We shared a couple appetizers and a bottle of wine. The meal that I took a picture of was my favorite. It was the three dip with pita and it was delicious. We also shared the lamb kebabs and they were juicy. The ambiance in here for Tuesday night was pretty awesome and they had the music playing in the background which felt like a Thursday. This place is another Instagram worthy place. Birthday dinner done right! My boyfriend surprised me to a birthday dinner at Amal: a. Because I love Lebanese food b. A couple of friends had recommended the place to him. Upon entry, Amal passed the vibe check. Minimal yet elegant in its appeal, we were off to a great start. Throughout the course of the night, we tried the following cocktails: - Phoenician Connection (5/5) - this was a tequila and arak based cocktail which was more on the sour side and not too sweet. Just as I like for it to be. The server understood the assignment really well when I conveyed what I was looking for from my cocktail of the night. - Art Where You Don't Expect It (4.5/5) - the flavors were great and visually the drink was very pretty. On the sweeter side hence I docked the 0.5 but that's more of a personal preference thing. The mixologist of the night was great at this job nonetheless. - Beiruti Mule (5/5) - this was a rum based Mule that we shared in the middle of the meal. The crisp carbonation of the drink paired perfectly with the richness of the remaining meal. We ordered this at the right time! For food, we ordered: - Hummus (Chicken Shawarma) (5/5) - tender spit-fired (I'm guessing..) chicken crowned the thick, rich hummus, dressed with a delicious olive oil and a dollop of my favorite -garlic toum. This order came with a basket of pita of two varieties: a puffy kind and the other - a flat kind. Star of the night from the savories. - Truffle Rakakat (4/5) - this was crisp, the pastry thin, and the cheese oozy, gooey. The honey on top created a savory Knafeh kind of experience and I have no complaints about. The grapes on the side gave us a nice little charcuterie experience. This just fell short in comparison to the other gems on our table that night. Independent of the rest of the order, this was great! - Kibbeh (4.5/5) - dry, warm, crisp on the outside and crumbly on the inside. You get what you ask for. Paired with the yogurt dip, each mouthful was delightful. And for the finale, we got the: - Sticky Date Cake (5/5) - BF's fave. Surprisingly, there are not many great restaurants while shopping on Bloor Street, Amal is definitely one of the best if not the best option. Everything about it was good (but not life changing, hence four out of five stars). Service was efficient and the maitre d' checked on me a couple of times to make sure the meal was good, a nice touch. I had the baba ghanoush as a starter, then the mixed skewer platter (a slightly different name), "upgrading" to the fattoush salad. I was a little disappointed the baba ghanoush was not served first, would have liked the chance to enjoy. I was also a little disappointed in the bread, I love middle eastern bread but this felt more like pita chips. That said, the baba ghanoush was some of the best I ever had (and a huge portions). No complaints on the skewers, the chicken was tender and the pistachio kebab (mince lamb and beef) were good, well cooked but not incredible. Extremely disappointed. I booked a reservation a month ago with their reservation specialist and the restaurant changed their hours and was closed when I arrived. There was no communication whatsoever and I drove out of my way to be here for a special occasion in Toronto traffic. Update: This was actually the location I planned for the day of my proposal. Their reservation specialist reached out to "make it right" with "complimentary prosecco and dessert." As if Prosecco and dessert is enough to make up for ruining my proposal plan. Came here with coworkers and a whole bunch of plates for sharing. We got the Kibbeh, Spinach Fatayer, dip sampler (hummus, baba ganoush, muhammara), Fatoush salad, and Chicken Shawarma sandwich. They were all delicious, with the exception of the shawarma sandwich. Not sure how you can mess up a shawarma at a Mediterranean restaurant, but this was unbelievably dry and I couldn't even finish it. Their drinks were also delicious. The decor and ambiance of this place is absolutely stunning. You can tell that every detail was considered. The service was top notch! Although we did make reservations, we were slightly late. Everyone seems to start with a cold mezze sampler platter ($27), three large mounds of prettily adorned dips where we opted for baba ghanoush, garlic labneh, and the lesser-known muhammara. The later is a zesty concoction made from a base of fire-roasted red peppers spiked with spices and diced walnuts that creates a bit of texture. The muhammara a stark contrast against the cool and creamy labneh where toum (a garlic sauce) and mint tones down the acidity of the yoghurt while giving it an extra boost of flavour. Still, I enjoyed the more traditional baba ghanoush the most where the roasted eggplant with thick and pronounced, just lightly seasoned with lemon and tahini. While their skewer platter arrives with a thick hummus, I found the garlic labneh went perfectly with the chicken tawok ($22 for full platter, pictured in the post is an extra skewer added on for a lesser price). The morsels of grilled chicken breast were juicy with a faint herb and garlic finish, but the creamy labneh just gave it an extra burst of flavour, like a milder and creamier tzatziki. Yet, what made us swoon was the beef tenderloin skewer ($24), the outer cubes cooked a perfect medium rare that seemed to cut like butter. They were great on their own, with a sprinkle of the chopped grilled onions and parsley, or even with a smear of baba ghanoush. The kitchen should consider leaving space between the cubes of beef as I did find the inner cubes too rare, likely since they had less contact with the grill. With a choice of rice or fries, our waiter smartly suggested the spuds since they'd be easier to share. The potato wedges were wonderfully hot and crispy but could use a bit more seasoning. Luckily, we had plenty of dip remaining to dunk the fries into. read more

The standout dishes for us: Muhammara, Garlic Labneh, Amal's Hummus, Pistachio Kebab. The place is definitely a great place for sharing as you're able to try more with a bigger group (which we thankfully had). I came here with my family for dinner to celebrate mine and my Mom's birthday. Great ambiance. Nice decor and comfortable seating. Many of the tables offered couches beyond your standard chair. My only complaint would be the noise level. It was quite loud and difficult to carry on a conversation beyond the person sitting immediately next to you without yelling. Service was attentive. My sister has a nut intolerance and they were very accommodating to make sure that all the dishes containing nuts were separated from the other food. In terms of food, we shared the Dip sampler (Hummus, Baba Ghanoush, and Muhammara), Skewer platter for 4, and Sticky date cake. All the dips we tried were spot on, especially the muhammara which was quite interesting and had a bit of a kick to it. The grilled skewers were all nicely cooked, with the beef tenderloin being the best of the bunch. The standout dish for me was the sticky date cake. I have somewhat of a sweet tooth and I love dates, so it was right up my alley. The warm moist date cake and butterscotch sauce paired perfectly with the cool ice cream. The ambience of this place is amazing! The decor is stunning and absolutely Instagram worthy. We came in for a light meal while meeting up with family while we were visiting from out of town. The sampler was a hit at our table. The garlic labneh, baba ghanoush, and basil hummus was good. The seared halloumi could have been a bit crispier and the drizzle on top needed a touch of salt. I ordered another dish that had meat between a flaky pastry (almost like an Indian parata), but I'm not sure what it's called and I don't see it on the menu any more. Service was decent. read more

It located on the 2nd floor which can be accessible via stairs or elevators. They have done an exceptional job at the decor/Ambiance of this place. Abstract ceiling to gentle colours of tea, mustard yellow can be seen in the form of furniture, hostess/ server dresses and art. When booking online you can actually choose where you want to sit. Onto the food. I've been here for brunch and now lunch. I would have to say brunch was my favourite. The much itself had some similar items. The appetizers were delicious. The main was a bit underwhelming it terms of flavour for the chicken. It was served on a bed of green, tomato and onion. We also waited almost 45-50 min for lunch to arrive to our table. The reason we were provided was since we asked for well done the meat was taking long to cook. Overall, I would come back and try the dinner menus but my desired experience has been brunch so far. read more

Came here for my birthday lunch. The venue itself is stunning. I felt very special. The server came over straight away with our drink order. The espresso martini was excellent. We decided to start with some appys then go from there. Started with the Rakakat. Delicious with the cheesy centres and roasted grapes on top. Also ordered 3 dips. Ordered hummus, of course, the garlic labneh and the muhammera. Loved the hummus and the labneh. Both crazy flavourful. A big pass on the Muhammara. For me anyway. Wasn't my favorite. Also had the fattoush salad. Loved it. Also very flavourful. We were stuffed after that so didn't stay for mains but will definitely be back to try other things on that delicious menu. This food was literally so good and very flavorful. The steak kebab was VERY tender. The service was excellent, and the waiter, Alan, was very friendly, and knowledgeable, telling us all the right foods to get. The atmosphere of the restaurant was very nice and bright and the bathroom was so pretty with places to be able to take mirror photos! Will be coming back again! read more
