After hours, actually days in the ER and receiving surgery as the doctor put it " to put a metal plate and other hardware in", person was released to rehab. Thankful for the Villas, a rehabilitation center and part of the St.Francis system. Still unable to live independently, patient chose to move over to the adult assisted living center on the same property. From the Villas it was an easy transition to Hale O Meleana by wheelchair through the courtyards. Thankful for the good care person is receiving at Hale O Meleana. Rooms are spacious and individual units with limited kitchen: full size refrigerator, microwave, hotpot... what else does one need? Not much when the delicious meals are provided in the dining room. Coffee and cookies available on self serve basis in the meeting room. Lots of activities for residents. Crafts, games, social events. There is a lovely garden as well as courtyard for those wanting fresh air. Hale O Meleana is a great option for those not ready to transition to long term adult housing which requires down payment (think Craigside, Arcadia, Kahala Nui) but needs temporary assistance. Charges are month to month.

I would highly recommend this facility to anyone because the staff is great and the place is clean.

We LOVE The Plaza at Punchbowl! It's been almost one year since Mom, 99 years young and still…read moreactive, moved onto the Assisted Living floor. She sleeps and eats well there with delicious meals and snacks. Her table mates at meals have given her unexpected positive socialization and new companionship. The staff go out of their way to pair her with the right table mates. The staff from the Nursing team to the RCA aides, the activities facilitator @Teresa, the Holoholo bus driver @Daniel, the concierge team with @Tisha - they all know Mom's name and status and are so friendly with her. Whenever I visit with her and take her out, she is happy and enjoys being on the steady meal and activities schedule at The Plaza. It's been so good for her mind and memory. She even gets her hair and nails done there! Such a fun activity for her. And the concierge desk arranges for this and the hair stylist even called me to see what schedule would be best for Mom so she could get her hair and nails done before her birthday. The team we've experienced so far have gone the extra mile from calls at night for special needs, to pulling me aside to tell me funny stories with Mom in activities. These are genuinely caring and professional people she has interacted with. They are not only polite but are fun and seem to enjoy their jobs and the residents. Honestly, we've been pleasantly surprised not knowing what to expect when making the transition from her home of and independent living over 61 years to a facility like this. At first, it seemed a bit sad. But my sister and I realize now that the initial transition was natural because it's an acceptance of her stage in life and being with her peers. Now, I feel so happy to be at The Plaza. The staff know my name and are so friendly with me, too, and very helpful in guiding me on what to do. It's really been a blessing for Mom and our whole family. I think she is getting better care than what she could get in her previous home with an at-home caregiver. More socialization, new brain activities, and a safe space to walk around and go to exercise classes. Mom also LOVES popcorn and movie day. For Mother's Day she had cookies and sandwiches and tea in the afternoon which was perfect desert time for her after our luncheon out. We love the Sagely app that helps me and my sister know what activities she attends. There are photos sometimes and this helps us see her in action. it is awesome to get same-day updates on what she is doing! I think this all comes from the kind and professional leadership of the lead administrator, @Cherie. We thank her every chance we get for making this transition easier. Since Mom is safe and happy, my health as her primary care giver has gotten excellent again! Mom, The Plaza at Punchbowl, my sister and I make a great team! Thank you again @Cherie for going the extra mile and caring for these kupuna as well as the care you show for your team.

The daily staff, nurses, concierge, head of nursing, physical therapist, aids who assisted him were the best. I always complimented the Plaza Punchbowl when family and friends inquired how he was doing and how we liked the Plaza. The staff was always accommodating and communicated with me. I don't know if there is a direct correlation with the way upper management handled my dads last month at the Plaza and/or when Ray (head of nursing left in December 2019). I always felt a sense of humanity, calmness and a great family unit/atmosphere with Ray during the last 8 years, ......as my dad called Plaza his home. The reason I'm disappointed and writing a negative comment is the way the management staff made us feel after 8 years. No compassion and the exit was cold... No warmth ...no human interaction.!!!!!! Sad Another incident during his last week was: -I.e. handling my dads return from emergency to the Plaza at 1:00 am in the morning. In all the scenarios " im stating how each was handled and how management made you feel". No compassion and warmth.

I can't say enough about the Plaza all of the nurses and the staff became part of our extended family. They took the best care of her, and there was never any concerns. She didn't participate in a lot of activities but they all still knew who she was and would come to her room to encourage her to participate. We can't say enough. The Place at Waikiki was a very convenient location as she was close to our home and where I worked. We visited often and I would eat breakfast with her every morning and dinner often. The food was often tasteless which I get as you are cooking for so many with dietary restrictions. The food was not that big of a deal for me because I could always bring her whatever she wanted or she could come home and eat with us. Her not having one meal she didn't like was not a reason for us to complain when everything else was well done. No concerns of overcharging for anything. My sole concern was that she was safe, clean and happy. To our family the Plaza at Waikiki was top notch and we know that the staff loved and cared for her every day. Thank you everyone for a job well done!!!

Appointment went smoothly - met with sales manager, Jeffrey Fishman, and he really knows how to explain things, address concerns, follow up on current info, takes the time to make sure all our questions are answered satisfactorily. He has been very patient with us in securing the right space for Dad and checks back with us on any changes we should be aware of. This branch of the Plaza is beautiful, spacious, very clean and I love the wall to recognize military veterans with their pictures and service. The rooms are a nice size, nicely appointed and the shared rooms are spacious with a nice little entry area as a sitting room. Plenty of things for them to do with a shuttle service for excursions and also covered parking for residents. The residents all looked happy and content, the overall vibe was positive from staff and the dining area with the chef's menu was outstanding! We haven't made a decision yet because Dad needs to see the place for himself, but we wanted to write this review because of the way we have been respected during this difficult process of entrusting Dad to others and the kindness of Jeffrey Fishman.

I called her daughter to confirm she's now at One Kalakaua Senior Living (OK) and was provided with the room number, along with check in procedures when going. Located at the corner of Young St and Kalakaua Ave, OK opened its doors in 1997 where they offer units for people 55 years or older to purchase and live in. They also provide a cafeteria and cleaning services to assist the residents. I was fortunate to have found street parking as my friend and I went on an early weekday evening. There were just a handful of visitor parking where all of the stalls were occupied but one and luckily my friend snagged the last stall in front. Prior to entering, there's an iPad on the wall where all visitors need to register your information. As you enter the doors of OK, the receptionist confirms your registration and then with the information you entered in the iPad, a sticker is printed and you place it on your chest. This was a first time for the both of us so we asked the staff we were visiting our friend and gave the room number where she immediately blurted my friend's full name. Seems like she's well-known here and have many visitors. It's been over 30 years since OK opened and I was quite impressed they keep up with maintenance as I found OK to be modern and well kept. I noticed the tropical floral arrangements and plants, which gave the facility a bright and welcoming ambiance. My friend's unit was a good size for a one bedroom and it was well kept. The unit was in the midst of re-painting. She mentioned the cleaning services offered, where it's convenient and worthy of the fee but didn't say good things about the food. She's a foodie and loves Chinese food. We used to have potlucks where I was responsible of getting the food and a couple of times I cooked at her place. She's got a refined palate for sure. Overall, a very impressive first visit at OK. The residents who I casually bumped into seemed happy and content, just like my friend who is happy to be living here at OK.

The hostess Fely was a bit rude, but after we checked in everyone else in the main dining room was extremely pleasant and accommodating. Dinner started off with a trip to the salad bar which was super fresh. We then had the soup of the day which was the Manhattan clam chowder followed by your entrée of choice, vegetable, starch, drink and dessert. I had the ribeye steak, French fries and spinach. Dessert was Kona coffee ice cream. The food here is quite good! Several steps up from food typically that would be served at a senior assisted living facility. Essentially like restaurant quality!! Really! I was actually pleasantly surprised.. Definitely a really nice place to live for seniors.

She used to call me at home, to call the front desk, so that they would go and help her to the bathroom. She would press the call button but nobody would come, therefore, she would have accidents in bed. Keep in mind that my mom was 91 and did NOT have to use diapers, but they put her in diapers. I can only imagine how degrading it was for her during her stay. Another cause of concern was only 30 minute visitations were allowed because of Covid. I totally understand this, but your time starts ticking as soon as you sign in. Their elevators are so slow so our visit was only 5 minutes due to the wait for the elevators. We couldn't even visit with her! So sad and depressing. Needless to say, I took her out of this place so that she could live her final weeks at home. My brother and I were pleasantly surprised to have each manager share their updates of dad and what their goals are to meet his proposed discharge date. Mahalo to Christina, the nurse manager who confirmed the medications he is receiving and asking us the right questions to ensure we're on the same page. She answered all our questions and reassured us that he is doing well and being pleasant to the nursing staff. Yay! Next up was Amrik the PT and OT manager who shared Dad is 94 but listening to the therapists and trying to do what they ask- he has walked 20 feet with a walker and they are giving cues for him to take bigger steps also helping him with proper way to get up out of a chair, sit down, sit on the potty, get up from potty, and encouraging him to keep trying, which he has been doing, much to our surprise and joy. Then there's dear Maka, manager of activities, she works hard to get to know each patient, what their interests are, hobbies, routine and wants to help them stay as close possible to what they enjoy doing at home. She visits Dad every day and when she heard he liked watching westerns and war movies, she got him his own TV since the double rooms share one TV only. She promised us in this meeting she would do it that day and it was there when my brother visited dad yesterday! At Christmas they received a big donation and she delivered all the gifts to each patient! A big mahalo to Jason, the dietary manager who brought us up to date on dad's eating habits which we had worried about and happy to see he was enjoying the food, his weight and although dad doesn't require a a structured diet, Jason still wants to make sure dad is okay with the food. He said there is an ice machine we can use for his Coca Cola and also a soda machine available in break room if he asks the nurse for one when we're not there. (Jennifer, another nurse, had taken the time to call me to say dad was craving one and didn't have change for the machine, so I was able to bring one for him). Jason explained the dietician will do an assessment of dad but we are happy he is eating the food and getting plenty of liquids. He looks great and his color is so good. Social Worker, Nu Timotea, was facilitating this meeting and did an awesome job explaining the next steps for his proposed discharge date. Helpful suggestions and recommendations gave us the baseline we needed to start the phone calls to begin the selection process of where is the safest and most comfortable for dad. I thanked all of them for making it a pleasant experience for dad and how impressed and touched we are with the care he receives as well as what we observe with the other patients. We are there every day at different times so we've met and seen various staff- everyone is cheerful, helpful, patient, gracious and kind. Even when they're super busy it seems they stop to reassure a patient or communicate what will happen next. It brings tears to my eyes what wonderful people they are to help others in need.
