Horrible horrible company. We hired them to care for a family member with cancer as a night time aid. On the first night the caregiver was caught fast asleep with an elastic blindfold over her eyes while our family member was screaming in pain. We sent her packing on the spot. Upon immediate notification the service: 1. Said that they would talk to the caregiver and send her back the next day And 2. We couldn't cancel the agreement without a penalty. Unbelievable. They backed down after we threatened to get a lawyer involved. Save yourself grief. Do not hire this company. The fact that they would consider NOT firing someone who purposefully put on a blindfold so she could sleep on duty speaks volumes. read more

My great aunt has dimentia and needs 24/7 home care assistance. We originally employed both Wilson and this company, Attention Plus. My sister works for AP and we are able to have her work with my aunt full time, through the company, as well as a host of other regular girls who fill in the other shifts. Our experiences have been both good and bad. Good on the personal side in that almost every caregiver we have encountered from their agency has been kind, attentive, and professional in their care of my aunt. Bad in that their business end of things has been of the upmost level in lacking professionalism that I have ever encountered in the business world. Ever. Hands down ever. My aunt had over $20k in jewelry stolen during the time we had them caring for her. It was never recovered, nor did the company make any inroads to attempting recovery. As the caregivers were the only other ones in her apartment, we know it was one of them. To this day, over two years later, nothing has been done to address the loss of family heirlooms. We moved her into a senior living facility this past spring and retained AP for round the clock care. Her LBD is degenerative, so her mobility has also degenerated. As her health declines, her care increases. One of the caregivers didn't bother to read her personal care instructions prior to taking her first shift with my aunt and left her to use the bathroom alone. My aunt made her way to the bathroom by herself, unattended, and fell, shattering her elbow and causing a brain bleed from hitting her head on the floor as she hit the tile. The caregiver was either not in the room or didn't bother to get up to help my aunt - the story keeps changing and it took the caregiver three days to actually bother to file her official report on the incident - which is required to be done as per AP within 24 hours. I believe she still works for them so beware of her lack of give a crap. Her name is Nora. The worst part is that with dimentia, she cannot go under anesthesia to surgically fix her shattered elbow, so now she is permanently maimed due to their negligence and will continue declining much more rapidly due to the fact that her mobility is limited to one arm. Currently they have decided that her level of care has increased, increasing our costs by almost $10/hr. Yet they have not personally made any physical visitation to see this themselves, nor do they properly make arrangements to train the caregivers to transfer her, which is the complaint. They send us caregivers who cannot physically move her - which we have refused to allow due to if there was an emergency - yet they still send them and make excuses about being short staffed, etc. Numerous times we have been in contact with her nurse to address little issues before they escalate. We take a let me help you help me approach. We try to offer solutions instead of just complaints. Each caregiver is required to write a shift report following the shift with information about the clients services and things like: she took her meds, she is having a bad day due to ____, she was very lucid, etc. These act as a critical information exchange should care change or emergencies arise. The nurse says she literally never reads them, and care communication and protocols lack because of this. I don't know if she is overtaxed with other clients, but at what we are paying ($18,000+/month!!!!!), I expect the nurse to know every intimate detail regarding my aunts care, and be up to date as recently as yesterday. I have dealt with Eileen most recently, who is one of the higher ups. She refuses to take any liability or even discuss the fact that her caregiver maiming my aunt is directly related to her needing an increase in level of care 6 months after the fall. But is more than happy to charge us more and continue to send us caregivers who cannot do their job as we request (transferring her safely and properly). If you are looking for a long term home care service for your loved one, AVOID THIS COMPANY due to their lack of professional business ethics and dealings. The caregivers are not the main problem - most are good - it is the company not training them properly or following through on complaints or issues. Additionally, they will become retaliatory by not staffing shifts if you complain. I wish I could recommend a better company, but we're still looking. read more

Horrible experience with them! My mom was just discharged from a rehab hospital after falling and hitting her head and now has trouble with balance and dementia. I brought her home but I needed someone to watch mom while I was at work so I interviewed several care giver agencies to try them out. Attention Plus Care was the most expensive and I thought they would be the best as their initial assessment of my mom was the most professional with a RN coming in and assessing not just my mom but the apartment for safety like checking where and if we had fire alarms, emergency preparedness etc. This was my first experience of having a stranger not only take care of my mom but come into my home. I was nervous about the whole situation but I needed to go back to work and this was better than admitting mom to a nursing home. So the first day that I'm going back to work since taking a month off, I scheduled the care giver to come in 2 hours before I work and an extra 15 minutes early so I could brief her and give her a quick tour of the apartment. I get a call from the agency 1 minute before the care giver was suppose to start telling me there's a lot of construction and traffic and the care giver was running late! The woman on the phone wasn't apologetic at all, she just matter of fact stated "we had her get off the bus and take a taxi so she should be there in 15 minutes." I was dumbfounded! Really, you're going to call me 1 minute before?!! I was initially kind of in a shock, so I was like "oh, ok" but then I started panicking and then I was so mad. Like WTH, the care giver is that inconsiderate and only decided to call her office a couple of minutes before she was going to be late or was it the agency calling me last minute? I mean if you're catching the bus and you're not even close to your destination 30 minutes before, you should start calling. But I give the benefit of doubt that maybe she didn't have a cell phone. She finally arrives but then she has to clock in on my landline and can't figure it out. Then she gets a call on her cell phone from the agency making sure she's here. So she does have a cell but Hello! I need to get to work and I'm trying to brief you and introduce you to my mom. I was so about to just cancel and send her home but I also had to return the rental car and pick up my car that was repaired before going in to work. I had everything timed with a cushion but it was falling apart! I was so pissed, I'm trying to keep calm but start to raise my voice that she needs to get off the phone and figure it out later. I tell her about how my mom's balance is off so she needs to always be with her so don't worry about doing cleaning or anything like that. She just needs to help her to the bathroom which she goes a lot and heat up her lunch which I prepared. I finally leave 20 minutes later and was a little late dropping off the rental car but I called and explained why I would be late. They waived the late fee but I didn't have time to put in gas so had to pay their cost of $6.75 a gallon to fill it up : ( Then picked up my car and got to work with 5 minutes to spare. Ugh, that was so stressing. Then I get a call from mom's physical therapist that no one's answering the home phone and it says the network is down. I get my landline through Oceanic digital home phone so I just thought the cable was down although I've never had my home phone go down. I called the resident manager to let her in but he wasn't on site either but gave me the code to get her in the gate but she would still need someone to take her up the elevator. I was on the other end of the cell as I heard her ask several people to take her up but most people refused since we've had a history of break-ins. Finally a neighbor who knew us let her up. I told the PT about the morning fiasco and asked her to observe the care giver while she's there. She tells me later that my mom was fine and the care giver seemed ok but she told me the reason the phone wasn't working was because the care giver unplugged the main cable plug to charge her phone! I was like what?!! There's open outlets in the kitchen and there were other things she could have unplugged. She picked the biggest adaptor and the 1 thing that should never be unplugged. It screwed up everything, phone, Internet, cable. I had to restart everything and was fixing problems she caused till the wee hours of the night. I think she chose that plug because it's near the recliner so she was probably sitting on the recliner and on her phone as she was charging it. When I got home, she had the gall to "advise" me how my mom uses the bathroom a lot but her balance is unsteady so she shouldn't be left alone. I'm like DUH, that's what I was telling you while you were trying to clock-in AND I wrote it with stars on her schedule AND this is the very reason I hired the agency AND what she was there for! read more

We were blessed that Attention Plus Care took such care of our aunt who had severe dementia. They had devoted team of caregivers who came early and lifted her spirits, fed and even bathed her. They made sure she was safe and treated her like she was their own grandmother. RN Linda was the supervisor. She was kind and understanding. The administrative staff was always available 24/7. Can't imagine anyone taking care of her as caring as our ohana would. Its too bad other people wrote terrible reviews but for us, we are grateful for a positive experience. read more

WARNING: COMPLETE DISAPPOINTMENT. I would give this company 0 stars if I could. I understand that one particular caretaker does not define the company but when you promise "a team of exceptional caregivers", you've got to vet employees to make such a bold statement. My mother has stage 4 terminal cancer & needs around the clock care. We decided to hire someone overnight once in a while so we could get a little rest. We asked for the most experienced, advanced care & agreed to pay a premium for an exceptional caregiver that could not only provide supervision but the utmost compassion as well. Having a terminally ill family member is already an incredibly tumultuous experience. Anyone who has been through this knows that it is overwhelming - mentally, physically & emotionally. The initial process was professional & organized. Great on-boarding with the sweetest staff, numerous phone calls, a lot of attention to detail & a great home visit. We were assured multiple times that caregivers at the level we requested had superior credentials, vast experience & the utmost compassion. We were also assured that this person would be attentive, would administer all the pre-portioned medications laid out should they need arise & this person would not be allowed to sleep during their shift as mom is immobile. When the first night came around, we went to bed reassured that mom was in good hands. At 1:30 am, my father awoke to my mother screaming in pain. She doesn't scream in pain unless she's been in pain for a long time. My dad runs out to the living room, where my mom's hospital bed is located, he finds the caregiver passed out stone cold on the couch with an eye mask on! This woman didn't flinch & she even had the audacity to bring an eye mask expecting to have nice snooze on my family's dime. While my dad runs to get the meds, calms mom down, this woman finally wakes up & offers help. We fired her on the spot. It took him 5 hours to calm mom because she was so distraught. My poor mom has been suffering for so long & now this - utterly shameful. As a warning to any family going through a similar experience, consider hiring someone that can be properly vetted for. This was such a disappointment & the effects are lingering. It would be a disservice to your loved one to even consider hiring this agency. Don't make the same mistake we did. read more

My mom experienced a bad fall a few years ago and it turned out that she had a slow bleed in her brain. Her surgery went well and required rehabilitation as her mobility weakened. I knew then that she would need oversight care at home. I researched and carried out interviews with various caregiving agencies to see who could meet my mom's needs best. I was looking for two things in an agency - 1. accredited and 2. have certified caregivers. I turned to Attention Plus after a few friends recommended them and learned that they met the criteria I had for my mom. My experience with them initially was very professional from admittance to billing and scheduling. The staff was great! In the first couple of years with Attention Plus, my mom had some wonderful caregivers (who are no longer with the agency). Although like with any business, the quality of workers will range. I try not to let the "bad apples" serve as a reflection on the agency, but similar to what other reviewers have stated, we have experienced more than enough of unprofessional workers to continue overlooking it. We had caregivers assigned who slept on the job, left their work shift early, had a million excuses why they were late, and...a caregiver that was not attentive which resulted in my mom getting burned from scalding hot water. I get it, accidents happen but this particular incident should have never happened.  Because my mom is not mobile, all her trust has to be with the person caring for her and the range in the quality of care provided by different caregivers made me wonder what kind of training they receive. As my mom's condition deteriorated (she has worsening dementia and other health-related issues), I was told that she required "skilled" care. Being that hiring a skilled caregiver is at a higher cost, I inquired about the difference between a "skilled" caregiver versus a regular one. The skilled care didn't sound as if it was an upgraded level of care/service nor was the training required. Frankly, the training entailed a few hours of mentorship. For the increased cost, I had expected a higher standard of expertise, qualification, training, care, and certification. I continued working with them because they expressed care and concern for my mom but in hindsight, I think I was just another business transaction. I was called by Attention Plus and was frequently told that they couldn't provide any caregivers throughout the week because no one "skilled" was available. This lasted for months until I was finally told that the agency can no longer support caregiving for my mom at all because my mom's immobility can jeopardize the caregiver's safety. After all the years of working with them and relying on them for help, I felt like the door was unexpectedly slammed in my face because my mom wasn't "easy" work, even at the higher pay rate. I am small in stature and can support my mom independently so I didn't feel like their excuse was an honest or difficult one for them. I tried to be patient, understanding, and professional, even overlooking hugely unprofessional missteps, but none of those things were given in return. Please use my example as a cautionary tale to take a more serious note on negative reviews with the positive ones you read. read more

Attention Plus Care is a great company. I care for my neighbor and she recently had a stroke. She couldn't be left alone and needed 24 hour care after she was discharged from Queen's hospital. I called Attention Plus Care after doing my home work and comparing other companies on the island. This company has been around the longest I think and is very experienced and reputable. I talked to their service person Janet over the phone and she was very nice and a lot more helpful than the other companies I called. From the beginning she took her time to explain things and was very understanding and encouraging. I had a lot of questions but we checked off each one. In person Janet was very professional and wonderful with my neighbor. You could tell she is experienced and prepared us with good information. Long story short the care and service my neighbor recieved was excellent and the relationship we built with Attention Plus Care is very strong. Since the stroke my neighbor has improved a lot and no longer needs 24 hour care and we have been with Attention Plus Care for six months now. I hope this helps anyone else new to needing care at home. read more

Caregivers provide medication reminders, perform light housekeeping and organization, companionship, mental stimulation, meal prep, outings when appropriate, and exercise as needed. They perform their services in a professional, caring manner. I am appreciative of the open communication which helps resolve any problems that might occur. Elena, a scheduler, has been extremely helpful ensuring that there is coverage as needed and communicates with me on a regular basis. There was a more accurate review on Yelp but it's gone now so it's probalby time to speak up. It was pretty much constant stress dealing with this company. They had some great workers, but would send over some real Turkeys every once in a while. We caught workers bringing over strange people, sneaking off down to the store, falling asleep on the job, and actively trying to turn the patient against us. The last straw was when one of their workers physically injured the patient and then the company tried to blame it on us. For all we know that employee is still with them and is out there seeing patients now. People have said that most companies are similar, but we got lucky by switching to a much smaller company. They aren't as good at following last minute requests, but at least we don't have to worry about them hurting the patient and retaliating against us when we complain. The best way to use Attention Plus is to look for the quality workers and hire them as private duty. Once you find a good one, do everything you can to keep them because the company will keep switching out with new people and throwing Turkeys your way if they feel they can get away with it. read more

I decided to go with attention plus because they were the first agency to get back to me. In the beginning they were very efficient and replied to my emails in a timely manner so I figured this was a good sign. I was wrong. From the beginning it was nothing but bad experiences. The aides were constantly late due to traffic or needing to get gas. I think these excuses for being late are absolutely unacceptable. Some of the aides were nice but most of them seemed to be unskilled and lazy. The most recent aide would get her all her work done with my dad and then go talk and text on her phone. Sometimes we didn't even know where she went. All in all, I would never recommend this company to anyone. They are too unreliable, unprofessional and just not a good company. read more

Attention Plus provided live-in care for my father for 3 months. They are the worst and most over-priced agency we have ever used (and we have used many). They were very misleading about what the total cost would be (they failed to mention that tax was not included or that holidays were billed at twice the normal rate, extra fees for shopping, etc). They knew I had no other options at the time and took full advantage of the situation, billing me as much as $961.26 per day, for a lazy caregiver who maybe did 3 hours of actual caregiving work per day, but mostly was sitting around watching youtube videos on her phone and eating all of the food in the house. I cancelled their service after 3 months, but only now have i finally finished paying off the $21,000 I still owed them. Taking advantage of elderly people and ripping off their loved ones while pretending to be caregivers is terrible. I have nothing good to say about Attention Plus Care. read more

Actually they deserve no stars at all. The VA contracted them to provide services to my WWII veteran father for 10 hours a week. First of all they couldn't staff the 5 hours each on Saturday and Sunday consistently. Kept changing staff. CNAs sometimes were a no show. Or they came late. Worst of all they were untrained. Some were good but far and few between. They had many scheduling foul ups. Before one Memorial Day the scheduler called to ask whether my dad really needed their help since it was a long weekend and maybe family would just want to cover. The last thing that happened was no one showed up a few Sundays ago. When I called they said they had someone but she wasn't trained so they told her not to show up but then the scheduler forgot to schedule someone else. Following this, the woman in charge Eileen Phillips wrote me a letter saying they decided not to service my dad any longer because I refused their available help--- she failed to say that the person actually was a no show!! Incredible. This company should not be in business nor should the government be using taxpayer money to pay them. read more
