You can see the restaurant when driving on Arlington Heights Road. We have passed this restaurant many times and today was the day we stopped in for lunch. The area is pretty nice you can walk around and shop at nice variety of small stores and shops. When you first walk in the restaurant there is a pickup area and someone was standing there ready to seat us. The restaurant is very clean, elegant, and tastefully decorated. There is soft instrumental music playing in the background but it did not drown out conversations at other tables. We sat in the "upper" dining room (a step higher) and there were two ladies from the lower dining room that asked to move near our table because it was too noisy in the "lower" level. So you may want to sit closer to the front door if you want a quieter table. As We decided to come here for lunch because my husband took the day off. Since it is Friday and lent, we cannot eat meat today. There were plenty of veggie options on the menu. My husband ordered the Thai Fried Rice with Shrimp, he said unfortunately it was way too dry for his liking and says he will probably try the Pad Thai next time. My husband drinks so much water and was impressed that they kept his cup full. He must have had 6 refills. Lunch comes with the choice of a vegetable egg roll, or pot stickers and if your dining in a bowl of soup. There are two choices we picked the tofu spinach. I ordered the Pad Kee Mao with vegetables and it had the perfect balance of sauce because not only could I taste the yummy sauce but all the veggies and noodles too. So yummy! I have been to Thai restaurants that have put on way too much sauce and this was definitely not the case. This is probably the best Pad Kee Mao I have ever had the pleasure to eat! Restaurant looks very nice, the decor and the seating areas are better than most. We shared a vegetarian sampler plate which was very good. Ordered a Diet Coke, and needed to remind the server three times about the drink after ordering it and still the drink did not come. Needed to also remind him to remove the item from the bill. The restaurant wasn't terribly busy and yet the server never returned to ask how things were. He seemed attentive in the beginning but then??? Only thing my friends complained was their Thom Kha didn't have enough coconut cream in the soup but the Pad Woon Sen (glass noodles) and Pad See Ew (fat thick noodles) were yummy. The food was excellent, the service was excellent, and the ambience was excellent. The appetizers came out quickly and the food came out shortly after we were done with the appetizers. I had ordered the Pad See Eu and requested it to come out medium spicy. It wasn't spicy enough for me, but once I added the pepper flakes and spicy sauce, it turned out to be excellent. My wife had the tilapia salad which she thought was good, but wished that the fish was deep fried so that it would be more crispy. My mom and I completed a beautiful day visiting the trails and animals at "The Grove" she wanted to introduce me to altThai nearby. I thought she was a smidge nuts when she told me she goes to a Thai restaurant in Arlington Heights when we live in Chicago where they are a dime a dozen. The restaurant from the outside didn't help my impression, just looks like a regular schmegular strip mall eatery you'd pass up a million times over. But inside, it's pretty enchanting and chill. Really cool colors, decor and traditional displays. There's a sort of family feel here and an obvious pride in the business. My first visit I had curry rice with tofu. It was lunchtime and came with a cool cucumber salad and a spicy chicken soup. I loved the combustion of flavors and presentation. So much so, I opted to revisit with a pescatarian friend for her bday. On my second visit, I had curry and a platter of appetizers. Again, equally satisfied. Overall, the space is warm, clean and impressionable, the food is spectacular and I'd come again and again. I'd prefer service that was a little more personable. It started off with a strong greeting at the door but the table service is a bit sterile and to the point (could be a cultural thing??!?). We trekked miles outside a city with numerous Thai restaurants just to eat here, the staff should know that and you do so by getting to know your customers a little, taking the time to offer recommendations and certainly to ask what's enjoyable so far during the course of the meal. Service was OK - not the friendliest, not much smiling BUT, my order came out correct so that is always a plus in my book. I ordered the Tom yum soup (medium spicy) with tofu to start. This was good! I love sour soups and this was delicious, very well balanced and the broth was tasty. My friend ordered a salad to start - looked very pretty! I didn't try it but she said it was really good. She doesn't like fish sauce so they made a dressing for her which consisted of soy sauce lemon and sugar. She raved about it. For my entree I had pad Thai with chicken - which was meh. It wasn't terrible, I've had better pad Thais though. I didn't think it had enough color or flavor. Pad Thai can be such a hit but this was a meh for me. My friend had spring rolls as her main course and that was also very pretty, she enjoyed it and said she'd order it again. Overall this is a good spot if you're in the Arlington heights area. This is my family's favorite Thai restaurant in the area and they said I absolutely had to try it last time I was in town. Honestly, I was really happy with this place! I got their Spicy Duck Rolls and Pad Thai noodles with Shrimp. I absolutely loved the duck rolls! I could've eaten 4 orders of those in one sitting; they were that good. You don't even need the sauce for it to taste good, but it doesn't take away any of the amazing flavor when added. My favorite thing about the Pad Thai was that it wasn't that oily. One of the biggest issues I find at Thai restaurants is their noodle dishes end up swimming in oil. To me, it completely ruins the dish when I see that because the main flavor you taste IS that oil. The amount of shrimp they provided was also a plus and they didn't skimp on the amount of noodles by covering it with large pieces of vegetables. The flavor did feel like it was missing something, but I'm not sure what. Overall, I agree with my family that this place is definitely one to frequent. read more

3.5 stars came for din as a party of 5. we started off with the shrimp rolls which tasted good/fresh. for my entree, i got the pad thai with beef and asked for chili oil on the side. the pad thai was surprisingly delicious! i was surprised that the beef was a whole extra $3 though. next time, i'll opt for the chicken which is not extra. very flavorful but i wish there were more noodles and less bean sprouts. the chili oil was also not really chili oil. just oiled chili flakes. it was also an extra charge of 25 cents which i wish the server told us ahead of time. for dessert we got the mango sticky rice and taro custard. the mango sticky rice was good and the mangoes tasted fresh but overpriced at $10. we had previously requested they add a candle for a friend's birthday and they happily complied and sang happy birthday. the taro custard was good but extremely tiny and definitely not worth $5. i do not recommend that one. i also want to mention that i had previously called asking which desserts are gluten free and the manager said only the mango sticky rice but then at the restaurant the server said the taro custard was GF too. if they could notate which dessert items are GF on the menu, that would be helpful. overall a solid experience but pretty expensive for the portions. read more

Alt Thai is always our go to local Thai place. We have been doing take out for years, and have not eaten in the restaurant for sometime. I had heard they updated the dining room and wanted to check it out. They expanded into the storefront to the south and did a nice job with the renovations. I always order the chicken tempura spring rolls. They are fresh and the plum sauce continues to be one of my favorites. We had the crispy plate as an appetizer. The salmon rolls were very food, it was the first time we tried them. The crab ragoon was light and creamy. We all enjoyed our meals, won ton soup and shrimp pad thai.
