I cannot put into words how professional Chris is! I have had so many pieces of clothing altered with her and they all came out great! The last time I was in a customer walked in and was being very rude to her. She was asking how much it would cost and Chris told her she would look at the dress and let her know when she was done pinning my jeans. The lady that was there, I assume it's the owner, was extremely rude, I walked in with my small service dog in my arms wearing a service dog vest, the minute she saw me, she started SCREAMING at me to get out that she didn't allow dogs at her business, I told her that I wasn't going to put her on the floor & that I didn't have to try on the pants, I had already pinned them for her to hem but she rudely told me to get out, I would not recommend such a rude person to anyone, I would give her 0 stars if I could. read more

I was informed that it was wedding season. This meant that she was very busy. I was trying to get some pants and shirts fitted. I then asked if she would take my measurements. She responds, "We don't take measurements." I think to myself, how are you going to make it fit? From what I got from my brief time in the shop, it was going to get straight and to the point answers. I was then instructed to try on a pair of my pants and shirt. She wanted to see to what I wanted based on how my clothes looked on me. I told her to shorten the length of the pants. Then Chris quoted a price for just on alteration for a single pair of pants. I was shocked at how much it was gonna cost. From what it seems like it was a, "take it or leave" price and from her bookings, it was going to take a couple of weeks. Therefore ,I left. She seems to be an ok person. The proprietor is a straight shooter. It was a different way of doing business. I read in another review that she will not coddle you. I can agree to that. If you can deal with these attributes, by all means. For me I will look for other shop. read more

Chris did such an incredible job on my suit! I needed a suit altered in a pinch for my wedding. She did it in only a few business days, 2 days faster than she quoted and for a very fair price for work on both the jacket and pants. I thought i turned my alteration clothing into their business, but it turns out I went else where nearby. I'm new to the area and got confused as where everything is. I walk in and she begins yelling at me about not having a receipt. Next she says I wasted her precious time because She had to look for my receipt. Worst customer service I have ever experience. Chris absolutely blew any expectations I had for my wedding dress out of the water!!! She was great to work with, kind, and communicative. Chris genuinely listened to me about how I wanted my dress to fit. She also listened to my story and left me with a great gift. My dad passed a little over a year ago. I brought her a blue shirt of his to take a sew a patch into my dress. Today I went to my final fitting and received the most wonderful surprise gift from her. She took the rest of my dads shirt and made a pillow out of it for me! Chris goes above and beyond any other alterer!! Chris is an excellent seamstress. She is definitely one of the higher priced seamstress in the area, but she is also efficient and her work is pristine. I believe you get what you pay for. She is polite and runs her business efficiently. She will not coddle you or overtly compliment you, she will do her job and do it extremely well. I highly recommend her business. read more

The owner is very difficult to work with. She has a short and limited level of patience. It's not like she was busy because she was watching TV on her laptop. Trying to explain how I would like my surgical scrubs to be hemmed (they're not like regular dress slacks) she became short then copped an attitude and started throwing out pricing. She wanted to charge me $28 for a pair of surgical scrubs to be shortened when the scrubs themselves only cost $30. She also mentioned that it would take about a week or so. Again, don't understand why as she was watching TV when I walked in. After explaining that, I did not want the scrubs to touch the very bottom of my heel, or to be so short, you could see my ankles... she then stated that what I was requesting, I would not be happy with. Which I did not understand...she decided she did not to my business. Very strange experience with a small business owner. I immediately went to another location in the area, and that business owner had no issue whatsoever. $16 and will be ready in 3 days. Amazing... read more

I visited Chris to see about having the quarter-length sleeves of my wedding dress taken out just a smidge to loosen up the neckline and armpit-area. I have lost about 100 pounds and still have some arm that isn't svelte, but just needed a teensy bit more room. The dressmaker left a good 1.5" of fabric on each side of the sleeve seam just for this purpose. I showed Chris and she had me go into the dressing area to put the dress on. When I came out, I headed over for the mirror to get some help zipping up the back. My mom reached for the dress and Chris said, "No, no no. That's not going to zip. It doesn't fit." My mom zipped it up, no problem. Literally - not a problem. No tugging or sucking in required. All zipped up, I proceeded to show Chris where the problem area in the dress was. This was clearly where the dress needed work; you could literally see where the sleeves were too tight, preventing a comfortable fit. Chris disagreed and told me to take the dress off. She took us back to the counter and started explaining that the sleeves would have to be cut off and there was a chance that they wouldn't work at all. Even if I was by some miracle able to fit into the dress, there's no way I could wear it with sleeves. Her advice?: "Honestly, if I were you, I would think about getting another dress. This one doesn't suit you. It is not flattering to your shape. The dress is poorly made. The problem is, with your size, no offense... you're going to have trouble finding ANYTHING. I don't know what else to tell you." 1. It's a tea-length a-line with a fitted bustier, bateau neckline, and 3/4" sleeves. It's impossible to find a more universally flattering dress. 2. I realize that I'm not stick-thin. Basically, if anyone ever starts off a statement with 'no offense,' they are pretty much expecting to say something out-of-line. 3. It's not up to her to determine what I want to wear in my wedding. I came in for a simple alteration. I didn't ask her to tell me how she thought my dress looked on me. My mother, sweetheart that she is, asked Chris for an estimate. She estimated $200. TWO-HUNDRED DOLLARS. She acted like offering that amount was a huge favor. What did I do? I took the dress home and let out the sleeves a max 1/4" each myself. The dress fits fine and is beautiful and it only cost me the price of some delicate needles and white thread. Seriously, don't go here if you're chubby. She's rude and unprofessional. ***In response to Chris asking me to remove my review by incorrectly recalling details of my visit and responding in the most condescending manner possible: Nodding when a "professional" attempts to milk you for more money when requesting a sleeve alteration is hardly AGREEING. It's nodding so that when you leave, you can ask "WTF was that?" before heading to Joann to buy necessary materials to fix the dress yourself. It's great that Chris has 30 years of experience. I haven't had anything altered by her because my BS radar is pretty fine-tuned, but I can say as far as customer service is concerned, she deserves less than one Yelp star. My review isn't of craftsmanship, but of social grace. Asking a dissatisfied former potential patron to remove a review only leaves me wondering how many other dissatisfied customers have been asked to remove reviews and complied. I'm lucky that I am crafty and skilled enough to alter the dress myself. It's a shame that Chris defends her business so condescendingly as to tell me that my recollection of an experience in her store is incorrect. Who has more to gain here? So I've left a review before and it's mysteriously been taken down. I've come to Chris twice...my wedding dress and then an everyday dress. Both were a solid 3/5. She did not want to take my dress in to the degree I wanted and it was uncomfortably loose on my wedding day. It had a built-in corset that didn't adhere to my stomach because it was about a size too big...I wish I would have pushed for it to be taken in more but I didn't. However, she tailored all other aspects of the dress (floor length, sides). The other dress I took in I paid $30 for and she did a fine enough job...but the $30 I paid was just overpriced in my opinion (I know how to sew but was in a pinch to leave town and swamped with work). I had the length and straps altered...pretty simple. She is a great seamstress BUT be very specific with what you want and expect to pay top dollar for the area. read more

For the last outfit I brought her (a very nice skirt and jacket combo to wear for a wedding), she recommended a couple minor changes to modernize the outfit, and I could not be more thrilled with the result. I took my daughter's prom dress in for alteration. The dress was strapless and was too big on the top and needed to be taken in. We picked it up yesterday and Chris did a great job. The dress fits great. She charged us $45 to do the alteration which I thought might be a tad high...but since I have no experience at all at sewing and am not really sure what all had to be done, I did not mind paying that. We tried a few other tailors when we first moved to Murfreesboro, and Chris was by far the best in terms of value, workmanship and customer service. Overpriced. $72 for hem w/cuffs on 3 pair of pants. Over the phone quote was $11 per pair and it changed when I asked for cuffs. It was mentioned that I didn't ask for cuffs over the phone neither was I asked. Who knew? I'd also like to point out that it took 7 days to turn these around. Also, they wouldn't take a credit card, only debit. In my opinion, you can find faster and better service at the local cleaners or specialty clothing stores. read more

I came in to have my bridesmaid dress altered. I needed to have it hemmed due to its length and how short I am. Tried it on and Chris stated that I needed to have the straps taken in because they were loose. I also mentioned how awkward the bust area looked due to me not filling out the dress, and she said I could either buy a bra or she could sew in some bra cups for me. She had sample bra cups for me to try on under the dress and they looked good. She quoted me $75 to have it hemmed, straps taken in, and bra cups added, or only $60 without the cups. I ended up not using her services due to the price. My dress is a simple 1 layer dress that retails for about $100 on David's bridal that I got on sale for only $30. I wasn't about to pay more for alterations than the price of the dress! I'm sure Chris is great at what she does, I just think her prices are high. Luckily, my coworker who used to be a seamstress said she would look at my dress and alter it if the job was simple enough. She looked it over and said she'd do it for me for free :)! read more
