Love the staff at Alter Ego. They are all so friendly when I go in. Its a nice environment, great location and I am happy I found it right in my area. My stylist, Kathy-Jo, has been doing my hair. I got a Urea pedicure with Anita a month ago. My feet were dry and scratchy underneath and no amount of pumicing or moisturizing helped improve my skin. Anita recommended this pedicure, and I was SO impressed! My feet were baby soft! As a test, I didn't moisturize until my feet started feeling dry again... and that was 3 weeks later! I'm back again for my second Urea pedicure, as each one improves the condition of your skin more and more. HIGHLY recommended! read more

I went a few weeks ago to redeem a groupon for a shellac manicure. It was a very nice experience. The woman who did my nails was very pleasant, and did a wonderful job! She explained the differences between a regular manicure and a shellac manicure nicely, and they had a nice selection of colors for the shellac as well (which I have heard has a limited color selection). The salon itself was quite busy, and had a pleasant atmosphere. The only thing I would change is that I wish I had been told what the removal process would be for the shellac, but that's not a big deal. The price was right, and the experience was pleasant. I would definitely recommend going here to anyone who enjoys a manicure. :-) read more

I also went to this salon to redeem my groupon for a shellac manicure and I will never go back. First when I called to set up an appointment, I was told to come in with nothing on my nails (I had a gel manicure from a different location). This was very annoying because most salons have the tools and products to get the gel nail polish off quickly and safely, whereas I do not. Also, I think that is just part of their job. Secondly, I arrive a few minutes prior to my appointment and I am told that it will just be a few more minutes for her to finish up the woman currently in the chair. Waiting a few minutes does not bother me, but waiting over 15 minutes when I have an appointment is unacceptable otherwise why make an appointment? Next, the actual manicure was awful. I picked an opaque color (taupe) and she put it on so thin that you could see my nail underneath. You could also see remnants of the old color had on around the edges because she did not even get anywhere near the edges of my nails nor did she do anything to help me get off the last specks of red nail polish that I couldn't remove. Finally, within 4 days of my manicure I have a big chip when she claimed her manicures last at least 14 days. I cannot speak to the hair services since I did not get them, but I wouldn't go back here even if you paid me. The salon is run down, cheaply appointed, and dirty. I will stick with Star Nails on the east side of the bay. They may not be super friendly, but at least they do a good job, remove your former color, and keep their appointments. read more

I totally disagree with the first review of the manicurist here- she is AMAZING! She does wonders with my horrific fingers (I bite, gnaw, & pick at them. Gross I know. I'm embarrassed by how I take out my stress on my hands. But I'm confessing so that you all know how good this woman is at what she does!) ...And her gel nails -which I've had her done multiple times- last LONGER than 2wks... Until my nail grows out so long, I end up cutting the gel w/my nails bc they have outlasted the abuse I place in my hands. Also, bc she does such a good job on my hands, I STOP picking for once!!! Bc I like how my fingers look! It's when I lapse in my gel polish routine that I end up picking/biting again. Get this: the ONLY time I end up cutting my nails is when its her gel nails. bc I usually bite my nails to stubs. All you finger biters... I am testament that she does such a good manicure, she will make u quit this awful habit. Y am I writing this? Bc it's all true & I feel like she needs to be acknowledged that she does good work. Also... Now I appreciate her even more bc I have had bad manicures & kno a good thing when I see it. She is thorough, knowledgable, has a steady hand, never hurts you, has clean equipment & her gel polish lasts bc she goes through all the right steps to make it last. In fact, I'm going to have to make an appt with her to fix this awful gel manicure I just got from another place. Totally learned my lesson. She will be my go-to manicurist from now on! read more

Anita does a nice job. She is very precise with her shellac maniures. She's flexible, kind, professional, knowledgeable and it's in a convenient location. She does accommodate rescheduling as much as possible. I've had to make changes and she always makes them work. She sees you at the appointment time with minimal wait if any. Anita did my nails today for the first time. She was so professional and sweet, and did a great job on my nails. She took her time and was extremely attentive to detail. I had a Purchased a Groupon , I have been looking for a nail salon that I could regularly get services at.. Anyway , I made an appointment and I had a family emergency and had to cancel. I have 2 kids so I was really looking forward to getting my nails done! However, I had an emergency, called to cancel, and the manicurist was NOT very nice or understanding.. In fact, she would NOT let me reschedule and told me I could NOT use the Groupon there. Which is fine I would have given up the $ I spent on the Groupon but she was very rude. I would never go there even if it were for FREE!! Not a good way to get new clients!!! read more
