I remember Al's being really good when I was a kid. However, maybe my tastes have matured or the quality has gone downhill, but the pizza was just not it. The slice was just too thin, didn't flop well, the crust wasn't very flavorful, just overall not for me. We got takeout so can't really comment on the ambiance, but the space looked reasonable although not full or anything. Service from the checkout counter was quick, so at least there was that. A quick trip to Jacksonville in the afternoon required finding a place to eat before heading back. Al's was our third choice as we figured pizza is a sure winner. The pizza was loaded with fresh toppings on top of a chewy and crispy crust. It's a solid pizza, and I imagine the chefs keep it consistent. The location happened to be the original one of the three in Jacksonville, with "seasoned" ovens, according to our server. Plenty of seating is available inside with a few tables outside. A steady stream of takeout orders were filled during our time in the restaurant. And that might have contributed to our order of one pizza to take longer than normally expected. When our pizza finally arrived at our table, my son said. "Uh, oh", and pointed out a hair before me he served the first slice. To the restaurant's credit, they comped us the pizza and expedited our replacement. Our server apologized several times and told us "this (situation) rarely happens." We believed her and thanked her. Because of the length of time to receive our initial pizza, and the subsequent delay that required a new pizza, I'm giving 3 stars. The 3 year old I nanny for asked if I could take her here because she loves it so much! The server was amazing, so sweet and helpful. The fries aren't my favorite but my nanny kid loves them. Our server brought out my pizza and made sure it wasn't too crispy for me, which it wasn't. I love when the pizza has some crisp to it and isn't too soft. They have vegetarian pepperoni (not sure if it's vegan) and vegan cheese! I got the normal cheese pizza with added on fake pepperoni. It came out fast and everything was a fair price. I believe if you want the vegan cheese you may want to order ahead of time because they may have to make a new pizza as it's not as common as the regular cheese. read more

Al's pizza has been in Jacksonville over 20 years. Some of their locations are newer than others. Some have relocated. This location is closest to us. They always have great pizza. That is our main meal here. The service is fast and friendly. They do have a military discount. read more

Been here many times. This evening, we noticed the sauce on the pizza was different - NOT BETTER. There was less of whatever Al is now using for a sauce, also seemed l a bit less cheese and pepperonis. We recently tried Al's again. My husband said his cheese pizza was good. However, my vegan pizza was very disappointing. The crust was bland and crumbly. I've had much better vegan pepperoni elsewhere- this was dry and chewy. I didn't see or taste much of the vegan sausage. The vegetables were ok. Our daughter decided to get Al's Pizza for our grandson's 2nd birthday. Even though they live 2 blocks from Jets. I have never had a good experience with Al's. Unfortunately she ordered 5 large pizza's, 2 extra cheese, 2 pepperoni extra cheese and 1 vegetable w/extra cheese. As soon as the pizza boxes were open for the birthday, it was obvious there was no extra cheese on ANY of them. There was onion on the veggie that wasn't ordered. SOOOO GOOOOOD!!!! Great environment for the whole family and the staff are super kind. We had a large group (12 people) and they were super accommodating. Bridget moved the tables around so that we could all fit together and didn't have to separate which was so nice! Bridget was a great hostess as well - very polite, attentive to our group, and explained the menu items to us. Food was served quickly. Could definitely taste the freshness of the food and the portions were generous. Be sure to save room for desert because it is AMAZING!! Jim was our other waiter and he was super great as well - friendly, personable, and attentive to our needs. We could really tell the staff enjoyed their work. The facility was clean, the staff were so kind, and the food was awesome! Al's is open later than most other local shops which is great. They also have no-contact payment options, just scan the QR code on the receipt- super cool. So disappointed as I wanted to like this place. I would not recommend ordering delivery! Took almost 2 hours for it to get here. When it finally did it was Luke warm, if that. Pizza was average, wings were dry and the calzone was flat. Only thing that was good was the desert, cannolis I'd recommend. I'm not one to complain and love to try new places, but this a no go. I do recommend that they do not do their own delivery, as it would prevent this issue and complaints. read more

The dessert (cannoli and zeppolis) were outstanding, so that's why they got the 2-stars. Unfortunately, the bottom of the pizza was very burnt and the top of the calzone was slightly burnt, so that just plain sucked. We didn't finish eating either because of it. read more

Definitely my least favorite als location. The sit down restaurant has turned into order at the counter, bring it to you and never check on you. Food is still Al's but quality and cleanliness of the place lacks in comparison. They don't even keep menus by where you order. read more

Lunch was great. I go on some Tuesdays after my meetings and get the lunch special which is 2 slices of pizza and a drink. The setup is great you walk in and order your food. They I've you a number and do much attention until your food arrives. They are pretty fast you normally have your food hot and fresh within 7-10 minutes. I would say if you are a pizza lover this is the place. It does not taste like fast food chain pizza. read more

My hubby eats here often and decided to pickup lunch today and bring it home to me. I have never eaten at Al's before. Big disappointment for me. I am a vegetarian but HATE onions and cannot eat anything that taste like onions. He tried to order a personal size pizza for me and the person suggested the slice special instead. He expressed no onions. No problem they said. He ordered a half meat lover pizza for himself and ordered an appetizer of the zucchini fries for us to share. My slices were covered in onions and therefore inedible. We tried to pick them off, but onion taste does not go away. The zucchini fries were like rubber. Truly awful. And the soda that should have been with the slices did not exist. He did contact the restaurant and they will make it up but my first impression is less than impressive. Went to Al's in the first time in a few years tonight and was extremely disappointed. One pizza had the toppings mixed up which ruined dinner for half of us (all the adults) . Our cheese pizza was absolutely pathetic. Both pizzas had cracker thin crust and the cheese pizza had very little sauce and cheese. The taste was mediocre and for $17, it's a waste. Great place for family eating! Met with another family, 5 kids and 3 adults, all were happy with the food and service. The waitress was extremely helpful and attentive. The food was great, even leftovers were good. I would recommend this place for families, date night or just going out for some good food. I have been to many of the Al's locations and have LOVED this pizza in the past. Then something changed.....and I gave them another chance, and have never regretted the changes that are in their favor. Al's is located all over Jacksonville area, so we opted for the Beach Blvd location. The wait staff was pleasant enough and very attentive. We showed up with 11 people, and they didn't hesitate to scramble 2 tables together to accommodate us. We ordered a myriad of plates; chicken parm, chicken alfredo, pizza, sausages and peppers...some feel good food. The chicken Parm was breaded lightly and fried to perfection. Topped with marinara sauce and mozzarella cheese paired with pasta and a side salad. Then out come the pizzas....piping hot looking so fresh! The pepperoni was spot on, nice and crisp with extra pepperonis to boot! This pizza made me glad I visited Al's again! My family all left happy, full with left overs for the next day, and excited about our next visit, whenever that is. I had a delightful night with great company and delicious food! The restaurant was crowded so I was glad I called ahead. I also had an email coupon which motivated me to go to Al's. The takeout service was quick and easy and the staff member was friendly. Good service, clean table but we were really disappointed with our meals. We go a to Al's a fair amount and usually I love to get their all meat calzone and my wife gets the chicken parm. We get the same thing every time so we know what to expect. Tonight, there was barely any meat inside the calzone and my wife's chicken portion was likely 1/2 what it used to be. I do understand ingredients to make these dishes has gone up significantly but I'd rather pay more and enjoy my meal than pay a lower price for a sub par meal. Raise your prices if you have to and bring back the quality and portions we remember. If I can afford $15.00 for a calzone, I can afford $18 or $20. Pepperoni on full pizza, caramelized onions (because the only other choice was red onions and I'm not a red onion fan.) on 1st half, mushrooms on 1st half. What we got was a pepperoni pizza with onions on one half and mushrooms on the other half. When you walk into Al's you get the feel of a local, small town pizza joint. The restaurant is on the smaller side but it has an intimate feel. Some of my favorite menu items include the Spicy Caribbean Pizza, Buffalo Chicken Pizza, and the Fried Ravioli. The price is obviously higher than the generic 'Pizza Hut' type places around but the quality of food of Al's makes up for the price difference. They offer great weekly specials for drinks and pizza by the slice. The staff are young and energetic. Great spot to grab a beer, a good pie and watch a football game. The only con I've experienced is that my last order took quite a bit of time to make. I had to wait 40 minutes for a to-go order of two calzones. After 30 minutes went by I went up to the counter to see what the hold up was and the girl informed me they accidentally dropped our order on the ground. I said I'd be back in another 15 minutes to check back and she said, "Yea No problem!". I was sort of expecting some kind of apology but it never came. I'm sure this was probably not the normal experience as I've had nothing but great service at the other locations. Will have to try again and see. read more

Living between 3 Al's locations (Jacksonville Beach, Atlantic beach and Ponte Vedra) of equal distances apart we seem to live in the one unserviceable area that Al's does not care to serve. Being 3.1 miles from two separate locations, a 5 minute drive, it would be logical to think that one of the locations would assume the territory but apparently we live on the "island of misfit toys". Al apparently doesn't like where we live. It is sucks to not be an advocate for Al's Pizza anymore but hey maybe this will get the wheels turning for them fix the issue and we can consider changing our minds. Till then we'll be proudly supporting Olympia Cafe and D&LP Pizza. read more
