Skirt Steak & Eggs French Toast Hashbrowns
    Ladazhia W.

Real old school authentic dinner with great food and service. The menu is big with various options that sound delicious. I had the skirt steak and eggs with toast and hash browns. The steak was very flavorful and did not need any sauce. I never had hash browns prepared like these before but they were very good and seasoned very well. My girlfriend always gets the french toast, she loves them. I would definitely recommend this place and will be visiting again.

Friendly folks and great food fast on a fully shaded outdoor patio. What more do you need?

Looking for a classic diner meal in oak park? Al's grill has been checking that box for diners since before I was born. I started this review the last time I was here with my dad, but the experience I just had changed my mind forever. As my dad always reminds me, the food might bring us in-- but it's the service that brings us back. I think it's the liver and onions he likes. I just went in as a driver to pick up an order. The restaurant was almost empty and there were many people working. The waitresses were downright insulting to me. They apparently only pretend to value your life if there is a possibility of a tip. Then they shake those 70 year old butts and giggle. I suddenly wish that I could retroactively un-tip the whole staff. Seriously. I will never go in there again. The order I had been assigned was sitting on the counter. The wait staff was ignoring me and then once they deigned to acknowledge me-- they were verbally abusive and condescending. If you can't treat me professionally when I am working as a delivery partner, you don't get any more of my business. They told me to take off my mask and stop yelling at them. I had never once raised my voice. I had asked if I might go ahead and read the bag and take it (I could see the name from two feet away...and I had been standing there for a bit being told that I had to wait for my turn--remember: almost empty.) No! They both screamed as they glared at me. You may not touch anything! I told them "no worries, I will never return." 2/10 the food is only okay but it is across from a hospital.

I went to visit my dad at the assisted living building across the street & planned on treating him to lunch but he'd already eaten. Nothing wrong with treating myself tho I sat by myself outside & mostly stayed off my phone. It was a nice day out, sunny but with a breeze going. I ordered a Diet Coke with the patty melt deluxe. The food was tasty, the service was prompt & friendly, & the price was decent.

Strawberry Fruit Waffle with extra whipped cream and a side of Bacon

We ate outside and they were able to accommodate a large group of people. It didn't feel too hot as there was a tent covering almost the whole back patio so that was great. I got the strawberry fruit waffle and it was good but would've preferred maybe a heavier whipped cream. They did give me extra like I wanted which was awesome! The burgers come with a large serving of crinkle cut fries as a side so I would say those are a much better value, but you won't be able to finish it probably unless you skipped a meal that day or take some leftovers home. With most people getting a burger and fries, we were able to have 6 people eat lunch for $110 with tax and tip so I would say that's pretty reasonable. Seems like a fine place to get lunch with family where you know it's a safe bet there'll be something everyone likes, I just wouldn't expect any unique flavors.

Service seems to be very good. Prices I feel should be 2dollar signs . However a few things under $10 Nice crowd , paid to park at Meter . (No parking lot) but plenty of city meters & hospital parking lot too.

Als is consistently delicious. The shakes are made with real ice cream. I've been ordering through delivery and it's still a good choice.

The Junction Diner - Kids pancakes

I'm so glad we finally had a chance to visit. This small little diner is a gem for kids. If you can…read moresit at the counter, it's the place to be--though I think there's only two or three tables away from the countertop, so you probably have a good chance. Anyway, when you sit at the counter, your food is delivered by a little train that runs from the kitchen and stops at your seat. It's clever, it's whimsical, it's amusing. It made me smile as much as or maybe even more than my toddler. (She may have been more excited about the pancakes.) If it's your birthday, they'll send you a birthday cupcake by train and the whole joint will sing you a happy birthday. The food was better than I expected, with a good selection of items. I was considering the 2x4 until I saw the turkey club, which is something I'd actually been craving for weeks and unable to find so I went with that. It hit the spot, and one of the servers brought me some chipotle mayo and said everyone likes it so she brings it to everyone. And she was right, so there's a tip for you to ask for a side of it for your fries or whatever. Once we were finished we went to play! The place has a bunch of ways to entertain your kids. There's a photo booth, some kiddie ride machines, machines with toys and trinkets, claw machines, and more. They all take cash, but if you don't have cash they have at least one and maybe two change machines for you to get quarters. There's a train display at the front of the restaurant for kids to look at too. It's a great place and I'm looking forward to returning. There's no dedicated parking, but there's street parking and a small city lot down the block.

The place was packed, with several large parties waiting to be seated. After a few minutes the hostess appeared, and once I confirmed everyone ahead of us had already checked in, she told us the wait would be short since it was just the two of us. Despite every table being full, we were seated within five minutes. The waitstaff immediately brought water to the table, and Alexis--our server--came by shortly after to take our drink order: a latte and a freshly brewed iced tea. Both arrived promptly. After several minutes to review the menu, we ordered the Paco Taco, a side of Maple-Bacon Sausage, and a half order of Bacon & Chicken (aka Chicken & Waffles). I appreciated being able to choose my syrup and went with the spicy option. Our food arrived in about 15 minutes, served at the right temperature and looking great. The pancakes (for the Paco Taco) were fluffy, and the chicken & waffles paired perfectly with the spicy syrup. Unfortunately, the side order was missing. After waiting a bit, I reminded Alexis, who seemed a little flustered but attentive. It took another 10 minutes for the side to arrive, and by then we were nearly finished with our meal. A small hiccup, but the overall quality of the food still stood out--flavorful and well-prepared. Alexis also refilled my iced tea without me having to ask, which I appreciated. Even with the restaurant at full capacity, we were able to talk comfortably, likely because we were seated toward the back. The space is charming, nicely decorated, and offers a wide range of food and drink options. Some items are on the pricier side, and no one mentioned the 3% credit card surcharge, so that's something to be aware of. Chicago Waffles delivers delicious food, friendly service, and a lively atmosphere. While our visit included a minor delay with a missing side order, the overall experience was positive--great flavors, generous portions, and a well-run restaurant even during a busy rush. Just remember to bring cash if you want to avoid the 3% credit card surcharge!

Walked inside at around 10am on a Sunday and was met with bright lights, the strong smell of…read morebathroom cleaner, and the loud roar of everyone attempting to talk over generic club music. The saving grace of this place was the friendly wait staff. Was seated quickly, but had to wait a while to have our order taken. Was immediately put off by the cost-- $15 for two eggs, potatoes, and toast. Wound up deciding on two coffees , "the Liege Pearl" waffle and a skillet. The coffee was weak and terrible. None of the flavors were balanced for the dishes. Way too much cheese and barely any mushroom or potato in the skillet while the waffle has tons of chocolate dumped on it, drowning out any other flavors. The kicker was that we were given 3/4 of a full waffle. When we asked, we were told the dish normally is only HALF a waffle and that we were lucky to get an additional quarter. For $17. Even if the menu were half the cost, I would never come back here. Edit: Dropped to one star on account of the unhinged response from the owner. To clarify: as soon as you walk into the restaurant, it smells like urinal cakes. I'm happy for the owner that they are attracted to that smell, but I'm positive the majority of people don't want the smell of urinal cakes to accompany their breakfast. Also to anyone else reading this, there are four sit down restaurants within two blocks with better breakfast food at better prices that don't smell like a toilet, let alone 3 other breakfast restaurants that opened in Oak Park in the last couple of years. Do yourself a favor and eat literally anywhere else.
