Visited Blondies on a recommendation from a neighbor. Upon arriving there is plenty of off street parking in the lot next door to the relatively quaint establishment. The interior is decked out in old school decor with many memorabilia of comic/animation characters from a bygone era. The staff is friendly and direct, the cooks move competently and for food they have all of the expected classics at good prices, while also offering a rotating monthly specials with unique items that do really feel "special". The bathroom could use some updating and the space is a bit tight and warm from the kitchen. But overall the food is solid, the prices are fair, and the staff are friendly. If your local or visiting and looking for a classic diner , I would highly recommend you visit this unique and timeless establishment. read more

Good Chicago eats located in Chicago adjacent west suburban River Grove. Good solid breakfast. The service is friendly and quick by local gals and guys. Neighborhood folks. They turn the tables over quick and it seems they always have a full room on weekends. Decent breakfast and good sized portions. It's a really clean place. They have ample parking which is always a huge plus around here. The decor is what does it here. It's Blondie's and anyone who remembers or has seen the old 50's cartoon knows the scoop. Blondie, Dagwood & the whole gang. They were rough around the edges cartoon characters and Blondies Diner seems to emulate this feel. From the decor and staff personality to the neighborhood patrons it's a straight forward they take no bullsh*t kinda joint. They expect you to be kind and well mannered to staff and patron alike. We ordered to go and the food was so good. The lady on the phone was also very kind and let us know that to-go would be 40 minutes which wasn't surprising seeing how busy they get so we didn't mind at all. I got the steak skillet and my partner got the meat lovers skillet and we both agreed that this is our new breakfast spot. The meat was tender, the bread was so soft, the hash browns cooked perfectly, the peppers juicy and cooked well. I also appreciated that they put tinfoil in the containers because most breakfast places don't and the food usually ends up melting through the styrofoam so even details like that really show that they have been around and know how to run a food business. read more

I can't believe I haven't posted a review for our favorite breakfast/brunch place. We are here at least every Saturday morning. We love it here. The servers are super personable and everyone working here including the cooks are amazing! There are daily and weekends specials posted on the board. There something for everyone!!! My husband gets 3x3x3 which is eggs, pancakes or French toast and bacon and sausage! He usually requests to substitute meat for potatoes and he's a happy camper. I always get something different depending on what's on the board. I think I've had pretty much everything from the regular menu and it's all been really good. I love their pancakes and omelettes. Out 2 yo loves Miss Violet. She's awesome! I'm any case, if you are looking for a yummy place with friendly people and good prices, check out Blondies. Be prepared to wait some mornings tho. A friend of mine introduced me to the diner this week. Prior to going it was explained to me that it was a nice family ran diner with personality. I read some of the reviews, just for kicks and to see 2hat folks had to say. Yes, I love reading the negative ones first just to see if there were any common denominator. It really didn't matter because I was still going to see for myself so I could hopefully have something to laugh about, during and after my visit. Well let me tell you this; it is a beautiful little spot in Riverside Illinois. The restaurant was clean and the team were approachable. It was extremely busy so we were seated immediately. The place is charming with the pictures and poster on the walls, just like the diners you see on television. read more

I came on to Blondie's yesterday on a work field trip with a 7 participants with disabilities and 3 other staff and just wanted to say that the service and food was amazing. Lulu, our waitress, was extremely kind and helpful, while also being patient with our need for separate checks. Not to mention that my pancakes were beyond delicious. Old skool, open kitchen diner. Nothing fancy, and I LOVE THAT. The place is a bit small but cozy. We were immediately greeted and given coffee from our server. As soon as she walked away, another staff member walked up to us with waters. We knew we were well taken care of! It took us a minute to look over the menus since it's our first time, but as soon as we shut our menus, our server was right at our table. Watching TWO cooks manage a line FULL of hand-written tickets was the highlight of my Saturday. I don't know how they it but man they did, working impeccably with one another, noting and communicating different modifications/add-ons for orders. Our food came out with great timing, piping hot, and the quality was out of this world. I'm not exaggerating.....you would think we were the only ticket the way everything was so beautifully presented, cooked to correct temperatures/styles, and oh so full of flavor. No dry eggs here, no overly greasy breakfast meats. And the coffee just kept getting refilled! Also, affordable. Another thing.....to be so freaking busy with a full grill and to still pay attention to detail (see picture) is so special. Extremely impressed and will be back ASAP. read more

When we walked in we were greeted by servers in Halloween costumes telling everyone "happy halloweenie"! It was super busy but we were able to snag a couple spots at the counter and watch the cooks do they're magic. It was really quite amazing how well they worked together to get breakfast prepared quickly with one cook working the flat top and the other working the stove top making all the egg orders. Try flipping three eggs in a pan...this guy did it with ease. Sometimes he had three pans going making omelettes and eggs anyway you want them. I like when a diner cooks the eggs in a pan full of butter instead of the flat top. Anyway, my Dagwood omelette was stuffed with veggies, meats and cheeses and was very good. We also had a Greek omelette which I'm told was very good as well. The down side was that our toast was warm at best and the potatoes weren't that good and the portion size was small which cost them a star. Service was very good and entertaining with all the 'back and forth' with the customers. If ever in this area again I would surely return. read more

I have recently been at this cozy diner, and it was amazing and fun! The ambiance was like being back in a 50's red diner with such warmth and friendliness. The food here at Blondies Diner was classic Chicago and very delicious. I got their Skirt Steak Sandwich and their popular Betty Boop. I am satisfied and it was the best dishes for me. I enjoyed all of it very well. It was almost like being on a mini vacation for my taste buds. This place offers an unforgettable dining experience with superb service and tasty dishes. Not a hit for me, but I'd be willing to try again once Covid has passed. It is mask optional, which I didn't realize. But I was meeting a friend and thought I'd take the risk. Seats are very close together, and it was crowded, with a wait. We scored a booth, thankfully. Booth was sticky, and service was slow, waitress forgot my Coke. My veggie skillet was ok, not great. My guest's coffee was refilled frequently, and the bus boy was nice. Parking lot was full and street parking is restricted to residents only. Three stars, but I'll try again in a few months. read more

12-14-2018 Van and I took our granddaughter to breakfast while the grown kids in the rental house was asleep (hangover) LOL Place was packed with nearby residence and perhaps visitors to the area just like us. I ordered the Eggs, Bacon, Sausage and pancake breakfast. Van ordered the ham, biscuit and gravy (gravy on the side). The little one ordered the child's grilled cheese and fries. Breakfast was as good as it gets. I don't think I ever complained or had any issues with any establishments in regards to breakfast. We ate everything and the little one was a happy camper. Server was attentive and made our visit comfortable, bringing my wife coffee often and a refill of sprite for the kiddo. We anonymously paid for a couple of senior citizens ladies meal. We advised our server we would like to pay for a certain table in which we noticed they were counting dollar bills. They were able to hand the ladies back their money and they left the restaurant in good spirits. My granddaughter asked me why!!! So, I explained to her some times people reach out and do things to put smiles on other faces. She seemed to understand "Oh...you wanted to make them smile..." Exactly. Pay it forward ! I can't tell you how many times I've drove past this gem of a diner.. I finally stopped in for a breakfast last weekend and I want to kick myself for not trying it sooner.. The staff here is made up of old sassy ladies. Not a good place if you're sensitive and uptight. My first time here the waitress asked me why I was just sitting around and that I should get my own coffee. She was joking and these ladies are a blast. The food is great. This place is awesome. Not to get political but the thing that sticks out to me is that people from the right and the left all come here and get along great. It typically has a pretty diverse clientele. This place has a super friendly vibe. At Blondies I find that people are very open to talking to strangers or others at another table. It has a great sense of community. It's a small and cozy diner and it's pretty popular so you might have to wait 10-15 minutes for a table for 2-4 people. Like the signs say on the wall, No whining allowed so shut up and eat it.
