Decided to stop at Nick Jr's again for breakfast. It surely did not disappoint! Once again food was served hot and delicious, service was wonderful and every one seems to work very well together! This is a well oiled machine that is consistent with their offerings, don't miss it! At Nick Jr's they are adding an additional $1.00 per order of eggs which consists of 3 eggs, not like other places that are up charging $1.00 per egg! Some of the appeal is the fact that I can walk to Nick Jr's which is so nice. Everyone working there was super friendly and the food was exactly what I was hoping for. So I came here becoz of the good reviews and I needed a quick lunch. I ordered a Milanesa torta which is basically a breaded steak sandwich. On the menu it was listed at $6.95 and I also got a bottle of coke. When I went to pay the owner said my will was $14 and that the coke cost $4. I'm like wtf that still doesn't add up to 14 bucks. She said the sandwich cost went up to. Um, update you costs upfront so customers don't feel ripped off! I understand prices went up everywhere but don't try to rip off customers! What an unsuspecting pleasant surprise. Been driving by for a few years now and never tried it - it's in a spot that had been a pizza place for years - almost seems odd that a breakfast/lunch restaurant with a focus on Mexican food is located there. So finally on one of my Sunday morning jaunts home from work, I went in. Just a couple tables were seated when I arrived and one left shortly after, so it wasn't too busy. Quickly decided on getting the special - a country fried steak with three eggs and hashbrowns along with a biscuit in gravy. All in all, everything on that plate was good. It took a little longer than I expected to get it out to me, but that might be because everything seemed like it was cooked from square one. The three eggs seemed more like two and a half - but they were pretty good. Hashbrowns were nice and fresh and not greasy in the least! Chicken fried steak was excellent too - biscuit w/gravy awesome. Service was cheerful. A guy I work with had recommended this place awhile back and that was my tipping point as to whether or not to go there. Glad I checked it out - I'll be back read more

I've been coming here for breakfast for a few years now. On this visit, my last, I noted the new menus (same menu items, just new format), which turned out to be a bad omen. I ordered my usual - Huevos Ranchero. No rice and extra beans as a substitute. Waitress, who's served me for years, says extra beans need to be ordered as a side item because they're more expensive. This is a first any restaurant, let alone this one, has said that. OK, so I order the side of beans. They can't be that expensive unless their Jack's magic beans. Order comes and there isn't a fried tortilla under the eggs!!! A must in my book!!! And done here consistently in the past! I tell the waitress, the same waitress who served me this order the way I like it for years, says that they never do that!!! Well they don't need to do it any further, because I paid the bill and left and will never be back. Damn new menus!!! read more

The experience was the equivalent of going to my aunt's house for breakfast. Nothing special. Not only do they make great breakfast they also have great Mexican food. I had the chicken tacos and it was a success! The chicken was very flavorful and not dry like a lot of places. My boyfriend got a steak burrito and it was gone in 30 seconds so I guess it was also good. Can't decide what to eat? Come here! Discovered this place that is open before work and I haven't myself been disappointed. I ordered the pork chop special first time and 2 pork chops for $10 first thing in the morning isn't bad. I recommended it to my boss and she ordered it my second visit and said the chops were dry. I will be back again. It just seems like a hit or miss incident. read more

Today had the Pork Chop Breakfast Special (chop, 3 eggs, hashbrowns and toast) and wife had the chillequilles in green sauce, 3 eggs over easy, which comes with rice and refried beans. OFF THE HOOK. If you haven't been, GO. If you've been before go again; they do a bang up job with everything. I kept hearing talk around the neighborhood about this place, but I kept passing it by for Denny's or ihop. Big mistake on my part. Lucky I talked with someone I could trust. He gave me the real 411. I was hooked when he told they made perfect Grits for breakfast. I took the line and sinker the first time I ate there. All there breakfasts start you off with three eggs, choice of meat, I had ham off the bone, toast, enough hash browns for two and a great selection of beverages. Everything was perfect, including my requested slightly dark toast. I didn't use the menu, just ordered what I wanted, not a special from the menu. I got my bill and was blown away, $5.65 ! The place is clean, actually spotless. Friendly waitresses including the owners mom. I would have given it five stars but the place is small and has too many satisfied, repeat customers. Though it looks like they have in less than a year been forced to occupy the space next door to accommodate the heavy breakfast crowd. All on street parking makes it even tougher to get into the Galewood Gem. I'll give them the fifth star when the extra seating area opens ! read more
