Hmmmmmm. Maybe not being a local means the service will be uneventful. Waitress was okay, but the bus girl was down right rude. I think she hates her job as she lays over the counter and chomps on her gum. Hubby said hello as she put water on our table and she totally ignored him. There was silence in the dining room so there is no way she didn't hear him. Food was the very basic breakfast fare. I wouldn't come back. Very disappointed. Hubby will buy fudge as we leave. The meal started awesome with homemade soup. When the fish and chips arrived it had been cooked to a dark mahogany color that was one stage from burnt. This was a disappointment as the staff was very friendly, and attentive. Not a bad restuarant just could be better. read more

The wife and I stayed at a upscale cabin 2 miles from town. The Alpine Grill was the only time lace to eat, we had nothing to lose but go without eating. The restaurant are was closed, but the bar area was being seated. I ordered the grilled chicken and mandarin salad ( I never order just a salad) and the wife chose the burger. Both were exceptional! On the way out, I asked the server if they had take out we could use for breakfast the next day. We chose 2 slices of peach pie. Oh my! Flakey crust, perfect filling! Next week we'll be passing through Alpine again and called ahead today to pre-order 2 whole pies to bring home to the family. As someone else noted previously in their review, masks were not being worn. As a former phys before retiring, I've never fully bought into the Covid 19 hyped by the national news media, so the atmosphere here was not alarming. Our 27 grandchildren, 6 sons and their wife's have met each Sunday for a family dinner and play session for the G-kids for over 10 years. At age 72 I'm not willing to waste what time I've got left fearing a disease which we now know to be 99.8% curable. Back on track, I highly recommend the Alpine Grill!! read more

Stopped in late yesterday and ordered food to go. Restaurant was empty. Waited in the bar, had a couple drinks...all good there. Took our food back to the motel 4 miles away. Opened it up and my Chicken Club was a chicken breast on a chunk of hoagie roll with lettuce and tomato. No bacon or onion as described in the menu. Doesn't a club sandwich come on 3 pieces of white toast? Over-priced and seemed like they threw what they had at in hopes I'd do exactly what I did....trust them enough to not inspect it before I left with it. Done with this place. read more

We were traveling through Alpine at lunchtime, and saw two restaurants directly across the street from each other. Both looked interesting, how to choose? One place had their political opinions on display big time, which was a total turn off. We picked Alpine Grill and Still, and that was was the perfect place! 4.16.2016. So the meal started off well enough with the pazole soup which was delicious. However when we tried to order more food the waitress Amber couldn't see us anymore. Apparently we lost our place in line and after 30 minutes of trying to flag her down I asked another waitress if we could get some more food. Eventually Amber came over and we got some fish and chips. The cod was big but on the greasy side. I will be eating some place different next time. read more

We were expecting a small town good time. But we were wow-ed off our feet by the comprehensive menu. There was even artistically prepared fish, my favorite. I agree completely with the previous reviewer: The waitresses go to all lengths to make sure you are having a good time, and that's especially impressive considering their volume. For a great dinner in Alpine, hit up the Alpine Grill! There's also a candy shop off on the side, which fortunately I managed to stay out of, LOL. read more

Giving one star because the French toast was edible. The green chile omelette was simply not good. Egg was overcooked, processed, flavorless pepper jack slice was laid on top of omelette. Hash browns were undercooked and lacked pleasant texture. Denver omelette was similar in presentation and taste to the above-described green chile omelette. Their house-made spicy sausage patties sucked. Let me say it again: they sucked. Dry, dry, dry and seasoning blend was marginal. I came here at the recommendation of a friend / local resident. We should have dined at Beat Wallow Cafe; we've had tremendous food there for nearly 20 years. We will not be back to the Alpine Grill for breakfast. read more

I had a very good lunch during my recent visit to Alpine and I have been impressed to see this place expand over time. It started out as an okay grill and something changes and the food became better especially for lunch and dinner. I order a club sandwich and was please to have thick slices (almost chunks) of turkey on the sandwich. The meal could have fed two. I am also pleased to see that they have added an ice cream section and a bar to the building. I cannot comment on breakfast but they do other times of the day. read more

Came here one time cause we wanted to try something different. We usually go to the Bear wallow cafe. We ordered burgers n sliders with seasoned fries to go, cause we had to run to the store next door. We come back 20 minutes later, its still not ready. We wait 20 more minutes. Then we finally get it, burgers are under cooked with regular fries. They were under staffed. No bueno experience. read more

Ate dinner on 6/3. Had the Philly sandwich. Very good, way more than I could eat. Service was good. Happy to see they reopened the bar after many years of closure. We came here 3 times during our week long visit. The food is very good - service needs improvement. If you order a pizza plan to wait for about 30 minutes for food. We had pizza, burgers, turkey sandwich, roast beef sandwich and chicken breast sandwich - all yummy! The lollipop shoppe is amazing - great selection of candy, fudge, chocolate and ice cream. Took a drive up from pinetop. A friend mentioned they had the best burgers. My friend ordered the green chile burger, a little heat and was delicious. I ordered the classic with pepper jack. Very good. My husband ordered the coleslaw as his side and it was awesome! I higly recommend coming here. Service was great and friendly. They also have a dessert case. went to AG on Saturday 6-27-15 for lunch and 6-28-15 for breakfast. lunch consisted of a philly sandwich and a beer for my GF. sandwich was a good size although she thought there could have been more cheese on it, overall a 4/5? breakfast on the other had was overpriced in our opinion, we asked for chicken fried steak even though it's not on the breakfast menu although it's on the dinner menu. wait time for the food was not so good and when it came out the steak was over done I could tell. GF ate it anyway, so total came out to $33 which was a 3 egg breakfast @8.99 an orange juice&a side of pancakes and her meal of the CFS and coffee. so not a great value wait staff are not the most friendly, waitress was ok could tell the pleasentries (if you could call it that) were very forced and the support staff was even worse. you live in an amazingly beautiful place why a negative attitude? wanted to try AG as we have been to Bear Wallow so often, but I guess it's back to Bear Wallow for us. read more

All I can say is try the chili if you like things spicy (I mean eye-wateringly, slap yo momma spicy, -- so good). $5.99 for a bowl that holds more than you might expect -- but you do have to pay extra for the cheese and/or onions, which I thought was a tad tacky. Coffee (decaf, brewed just for me) was good. Garlic toast was hot, crisp, and good, tho' not particularly garlicky. We'll definitely be back on our way through Alpine. read more

I had Breakfast and Dinner here this weekend. They both were tremendous the veggie omelet was the best I have ever had. Fresh veggies and a huge serving. The staff was friendly there is nothing I can say negative at all the coffee was hot and delicious and my cup never got close to empty. It was a rainy cool morning spent out scouting and the java was a life saver. Dinner was a pizza on a homemade crust that was perfect. I was told the owner makes his own killer chocolate so when I left I had a pound and a half of assorted chocolate candies that are SINFUL. The pie and ice cream were way above average as well. I will never eat anywhere else when I visit Alpine which I hope is more often now. read more

We usually go to Bear Wallow where the friendly staff is part of the pleasant experience. We had the cod which was ok but lacked flavor ; Bear Wallows is much better. Husband & I have been there in past years, food wasn't terrific but more than acceptable for a small town diner. One exception is the tuna melt which for some reason has always been the best I've ever tasted anywhere. Until this year...went for lunch, restaurant wasn't really crowded but we asked if we could eat in the bar & were told that would be fine. Husband & I both ordered the tuna melt with fries. I have always told him how good it is so he thought he would try it too. Well, sandwich & fries were served to us & waitress walked away. I looked at & picked up the sandwich. The bread was dry (literally, nothing on it) & cold, lifted the slice of bread to see a slice of cold, unmelted cheese! It was a tuna sandwich, not a melt. Found the waitress, she apologized, took it back, came back with it 3 minutes later & it was the same exact sandwich, nothing had changed. I wasn't sure what she did with it when she took it back, but the bread was still dry & cold (never touched a grill) & cheese was still not melted! Called her back, asked her who the cook was, & sent the sandwich back a 2nd time. That was it, by that time we had lost our appetites. Owner wasn't there, evidently no manager, so one of the cooks, Darby, came out & apologized & said she was starting our meal all over again with fresh fries, etc. We told her to forget it, paid for our drinks & left. Truly sad. Evidently cooks get no training & absentee owner has no control & no one in charge when he's away. We will not be returning. We've had a place in Alpine since 2003 so it's not like we're new to town. read more
