What a cute little place in Alpine. There were 6 of us ladies coming in for brunch/lunch after camping for 4 days at Luna Lake. Three of us ordered breakfast and three of us ordered lunch. All the meals came out quickly and we're definitely yummy, especially after camping. The server was very nice and super helpful, especially when the group wanted to play a trick on me. If you're in no hurry, I highly recommend BWC! Strong iced tea (though you'll need to flag them down for a refill), friendly service, clean restroom and dining room, cute homey place. It kind of feels like a Hallmark movie! I highly recommend the fried zucchini, and the sourdough burger with fries. You might need to add a dash of your own salt to the food. Such a cute and fun little small town cafe. So many things to look at, we just loved it. Our deluxe cheese burgers and fries were delicious. Our daughter had the Mexican combination plate and said it was fantastic. We were too full for their famous homemade pie so had to come back today and try it. We did choose this restaurant because on a Monday afternoon there was nothing else open-- but I'm glad we got lucky. We had a really nice personable waitress and the food was good. Big ass Maga sign when you go in, Guns are welcome, cell phones are not. They only serve "real families" per a huge banner 2 years ago. I wouldn't take a child there with the tension you could cut with a knife if they think you are not local or are not a Trump supporter. My family has gone there for years but won't go any more. Family owned but has been passed down to the next generation, so it's not the same. Be very careful. There's a more normal cafe across the street. read more

I was delighted how good the breakfast was on my wife and I's stop in little Alpine. The staff was friendly and the food was unpretentious and better because of it. Recommend both of our dishes Huevos Rancheros or the combo breakfast with the half-biscuit & gravy. read more

Some are likely to be offended by patriotic, western, outdoorsman, hunting culture that exists in the community that is on full display at Bear Wallow. Always busy and have never been left wanting. Sometimes really busy with a wait because it's packed. Prices reflect Alpine's remote location, but, you get what you pay for. Note, seasonal restaurant that closes for part of Winter. read more

Very disappointed. My chicken tenders were wayyyy over cooked. It was the only place open when we drove threw the town. The short little lady was super sweet. Our server on the other hand treated us like we were of no importance. Waited quite a while to check out. Another server had to help our waitress add up the bill. Extremely pricey for the servings. Burger patty on the Patty Melt is half the size of a McDonald's burger and the onions are not grilled. The rye bread is average sized loaf bread. You can pay $2 more to replace the fries with onions rings and you get 6 onion rings. We waited an hour to get our food, because they were transitioning from breakfast to lunch. The service is friendly and the server brought some chips and salsa for the wait, but I wouldn't recommend. So far, this place is in the TOP 10 WORST places that I've eaten at. It's more of a tourist trap/novelty diner. read more

You are not safe eating here! The people are nice and the food is good, but I didn't feel safe. The staff was not wearing masks and neither were the customers. Zero effort was made to keep diners 6 feet apart. When asked, the waitress (who was a really nice young woman) said it would be too hard to implement the safety measures that are required to open during the pandemic. Alpine is a tiny town and probably has not been much exposed to coronavirus. But it's Memorial Day and for the next three months people from the city will be bringing the virus with them. I hope the management gets smart really fast. read more

I have been here twice now and the two experiences could not have been more different. We came first for breakfast on July 4th weekend 2019. I had a breakfast burrito and my wife had an omelet. The service was friendly and fast and the food was great! We came for lunch last Friday and it was a total bust! The servers were friendly still. We ordered a green chile burro and three tacos. We waited 40 minutes for the food to come out and they were far from busy. But here is the worst of it. The food was a complete joke. The burro contained virtually nothing. There may have been two tablespoons of green chile sauce in it and less that a fork-full of meat. The tacos were unseasoned hamburger patties cut in half semi-circles and placed in cold wet taco shells. We left without eating. Both entre's were priced in the teens. The first visit was a four the second was a one. Average is 2.5 stars with a charity round up to 3 stars because the people are nice. read more

Waving the Confederate flag out front I should have guessed but was with my family and this place came recommended as a must try. Begrudgingly tried this place and even with ignorance aside this place is just poor. The locals get priority so they can all sit near each other and banter about conspiracy theories against the threat to their own culture. I digress - I ordered the chicken fried steak. Nobody could mess this up, especially a diner. Proven wrong here. Gravy was just white gelatinous sauce atop a mushy breading covering a Grade D flank steak. The service was so inattentive and cold I paid to just get out of here to meet my family later. I have tried firefly and that is so far superior. Even Alpine grill is right across the street with some decent options. Go here if you want to see what is the worst part of one of the most beautiful cities in Arizona. read more

One of the few places open on Sunday in Alpine. A lot of cars in parking lot when we arrived, expected to wait but nope! Found a table right away, we were greeted immediately, brought menus, were asked for drink order and took our order within minutes. Food came out in 20 minutes after arrival. Mother/daughter team working the tables appeared shorthanded but they rocked it! Ordered the Turkey Melt with green chile and onion rings, wife ordered same thing but with homemade vegetable beef soup. Food was excellent, hot and very tasty, green chili had just a little spice but not too hot! Soup was made from scratch, not a frozen soup available from food service providers. Split a homemade apricot pie slice a la mode, perfect crust and filling was definitely homemade. We will return, well worth the 90 mile trip from Linden, AZ! read more

Great breakfast, fantastic staff, but please 86 the politics. Dropped in to this classic diner after a 40-mile backpack trip through the gorgeous mountains nearby. Loved the servers, they're friendly, fast, and helpful. The food is everything you want in diner classics. Excellent cinnamon French toast, and I would happily live the rest of my life living exclusively on their skillet of hash browns, diced ham, tomatoes, peppers and two kinds of cheese. If I could eat blindfolded, this would be the perfect restaurant. But there are political posters and printouts all over the walls--including antiques dating back to the Obama administration. Why do we have to have politics be front and center every single place we go? I live in Iowa and right now presidential candidates are everywhere, you can barely go out for pizza without bumping into at least two of them. I'm sick of politics!!!!! Left, right, Reaganite, third way, conservative, NRA, yellow dog Dem, red diaper baby, all of it... I want my breakfast to be a sanctuary from the outside world, not a reminder of the craziness out there. read more

Connie and staff are the best! We have eaten there 5 or 6 times a year for the last 5 years and all ways had good service and good food.

Not recommended anymore. We have been to Bear Wallow at least 10 times in the past few years when visiting Alpine. The food, 2 years ago, was definitely passable. Our daughter enjoyed the enchiladas and the burgers were good as well. But, the last 4 times we have stopped at Bear Wallow has seen the food quality deteriorate. We kept hoping the "last time" was a one off and things have gotten better; they haven't. We could not care less about the wall trimmings and decorations; this is America and everyone is entitled to their opinions. Always. But, the food and the service! C'mon guys. Specifically, the french fries have been cold, soggy and undercooked each of the last 4 visits. The burgers, hard to mess up, have been getting smaller and smaller, the burger rolls get more and more stale. Our server drops the food off and before we can say, "yes please, can we get the ketchup", she has turned her back and gone to chit chat with her friends. High prices, changed with little labels pasted on to the menus. So, after all these years and visits and recommendations to friends we are pulling those and also never going back to Bear Wallow. Too expensive and the food and service have declined to "not worth it" levels. Sad. read more

This place is the biggest joke. My besty and I Are gun toting, motorcycle riding, tequila drinking girls who came up to ride the 666. Although we are both married (to men) we do a lot of rides, just the two of us. We went to this place for breakfast and it took 20 minutes before some even acknowledged we were here and we sat there another 40 minutes waiting for our food. Looking around and seeing all the confederate signs we decided they assumed we were gay and they were avoiding us. The food quality is not bad, although the Mexican dishes are just okay, but the service is excellent. It's a locally owned restaurants and most of the staff is family. Unlike many other mom-and-pop shops that lack customer service, Bear Wallow's waiters are professional and friendly. It's a pleasant surprise to get good service in a small town. read more

Went in this Memorial Day weekend. We all ordered the chicken fried steak breakfast. Ohhhhh! It was absolutely tender and crisp. Lots of crispy breading and wonderfully smooth white gravy. They now serve home fries instead of shredded hash browns. I think I like the home fry style better. Our absolutely friendly server said they have a new cook. She also said if we liked the breakfast chicken fried steak we needed to come back for the dinner version because it was homemade. That'll be on next weeks agenda. read more
