We visited Darbi's Cafe for both lunch and breakfast while staying in Pinetop, and after two fantastic meals, we completely understand why this place is so popular! A little advice: if you are going for breakfast, arrive early--especially on a weekend. Darbi's gets busy! But whether you are waiting for breakfast or lunch, trust me, it is worth it. The portions are enormous, the food is excellent, and this team clearly knows how to serve a crowd. They have the whole operation dialed in. The restaurant itself is adorable, full of personality, and has the kind of lively, welcoming atmosphere that makes a meal feel like part of the vacation. For lunch, Dan ordered the Monte Cristo, served on a French toast bun with raspberry compote for dipping. It was sweet, savory, crispy, and absolutely delicious. We shared it, of course! I ordered the green chile cheeseburger, and it was packed with flavor. Breakfast was a whole adventure. We ordered one cinnamon roll to share, not realizing it was approximately the size of four normal cinnamon rolls! We both laughed, cut ourselves a slice, and immediately asked for a box. It was warm, ooey-gooey perfection, loaded with cinnamon and butter and covered in cream cheese frosting. Honestly, it may have been the best cinnamon roll I have ever eaten. As though that were not enough, we had also ordered a side of bacon--four generous slices--and full breakfasts. We both chose the prime rib Benedict, and it was incredible. The eggs were large and beautifully colored, the English muffin was tender, the sauce was just right, and the hash browns had that perfect crispy crunch. Needless to say, we did not finish everything at either meal. Darbi's definitely believes in leftovers! The prices were very reasonable, and the waitstaff was friendly, attentive, and welcoming during both visits. Between the huge portions, creative dishes, fun atmosphere, and outstanding food, Darbi's is a must for breakfast or lunch in Pinetop. Stepping out of your vehicle on your first stop from the drive from phoenix and it's into a nestled cafe 20 degrees cooler already has you feeling right. Smells of scratch cooking welcome you as you walk in with smiles and the usual knickknacks for purchase to commemorate your trip abound. Waiter arrived and took our order as the menu is large but it's got the staples if you're a breakfast fan it doesn't take long to decide. My buddy went with an omelet hash browns extra crispy w/ pancakes and myself the sausage link with over medium eggs home fries and toast. Large portions force you to take food to make decisions, over indulge, leave it behind, or take it to go. Thankfully we elected to leave it behind though it was all extremely delicious! We were given our check with no rush to leave but the travel plans had just begun so it was perfect. On our way out we just missed a rush as there was a line out the door so our 9:30am arrival was fortunate and awesome though we had no idea it would be. We had an overnight stay at Corduroy Lodge, and our neighbors who grew up in the area recommended this spot for breakfast. It was very busy, but service was pleasantly quirky and welcoming. There are lots of fun signs around to enjoy reading if you have to wait for a table. Our server, plus other staff, were very attentive and took care of any needs we might have had. I ordered the chicken fried steak breakfast with sourdough toast (looked and tasted like the real deal), potato cake (hash browns with onions, peppers, and melted cheese--yum!), 2 eggs over medium (cooked just right), chicken fried steak (kind of thin, but still crispy and tasty), and plenty of gravy on the side as I'd requested. I tried a bit of the pancakes my husband got and they were wonderful. The butter syrup was so good. Our friends enjoyed their meals as well. It was my first time visiting Darbis cafe, and I was really surprised by how packed it was! I went on a Sunday morning. The parking situation is honestly the worst! There's very limited parking and it's very crammed. The wait was also pretty long, but it's understandable as they were packed. The place is small, but cozy. The food was great, and had nice flavor. The pancakes were also nice and fluffy. I think the only thing I left wanting to try was their cinnamon rolls! They looked amazing, but I was too full after eating my breakfast. We ate at Darbi's today around 12:30 for lunch with a group of 7, and wow--this place was hopping! We did have a short wait, but it was totally expected and honestly a good sign. From the moment we sat down, the staff was incredibly friendly. It felt less like a restaurant and more like being welcomed by friends or family. Everyone was attentive, upbeat, and clearly working hard. Our group ordered a little of everything: three Chicken Fried Steaks, a half Chef Salad, Chicken Tenders, the Monte Cristo, and the Fish Fry. Every single dish came out hot and delicious. The portions were generous and the flavors were spot on. I personally had the Chicken Fried Steak and upgraded my side to mac and cheese--so glad I did. It was creamy, comforting, and absolutely hit the spot. The only small negative was that the soup was a bit lukewarm, but honestly, that didn't take away from how much we enjoyed the meal and experience overall. The BLAT was absolutely amazing, the fries were perfectly done, and the Cant put it down cookie definitely lived up to its name from their delicious baked goods selection. Pretty extensive menu with plenty of options and a great view from the patio. I got the 3x3 Skillet and it was just about as good as it gets. No complaints at all. Portions are huge! When I am in Pinetop, I must always stop at Darbi's. It was Saturday morning around 9:30 am and extremely busy. I lucked into a parking spot, which can be tricky. I managed to grab a seat at the bar so that was another score. The wait for a table was probably about an hour. I decided on Steak & eggs. The steak, seasoned perfectly and cooked medium rare, over medium eggs and terrific hash browns along with a massive biscuit. The best steak and eggs, I have ever had. Maggie was my server and even though the place was hopping, she managed to check on me appropriately. There are several dining rooms, and they are always full, but since I was alone, getting the last bar seat was perfect. I was leaving town after eating and couldn't afford the time to wait for a seat. I have never had a bad meal there. Their baked goods are so good, but after that nice steak & eggs, there was no room. My recommendation is if you are ever in Pinetop, you must stop, just be prepared to wait unless you are there when they first open. There is a reason they are so popular. The staff is always so kind and the wait is never truly long since we arrive around 8:30/9:00 before there's a big rush. The service was very quick which was amazing since we were heading back home and wanted to beat most of the traffic down to the valley. Their menu looks new and there were plenty of options for everyone to choose from. My oatmeal was perfect and there weren't really any complaints from the group. The only hiccup that we encountered was the sausage gravy, for biscuits & gravy, was not warmed and it was a little cold. The biscuits were delicious and helped warm the gravy up a little bit. Visited Darbi's Cafe in Pinetop today for breakfast & it was exceptional. I had the two eggs & sausage breakfast with a potato cake & the Tex-Mex Biscuit & gravy. I added cheddar cheese to my eggs and they were cooked to perfection. They actually added the cheese into the eggs while they were cooking where most breakfast places just throw some cheese on top and throw it into the salamander to melt it, Darbi's did the eggs great. The potato cake was the best I've ever had, seasoned perfectly, a little cheesy with a nice crisp. The Tex-Mex sausage gravy is made with chorizo & fresh jalapeños, and when I say fresh they were hot as heck, I love heat and those little green niblets did a number on my tongue, I loved it. The biscuit was moist and tasty. My buddy got the Tombstone Skillet with top sirloin steak with a bunch of fresh veggies, he said the steak was tender and tasty and the whole skillet disappeared, he loved it. Next time I'm back in Pinetop I'll be stopping again, I regret not getting the cinnamon roll after seeing it walk by our table, oh well there's next time. read more

My husband and our children went to Darbi's Cafe by recommendation. We were totally satisfied with our selections of breakfast; so much so that we went there twice while we were there. They're bacon tasted so good, their selections are wonderful, I love the crunchy French toast, my kids ordered the spinach omelettes and also biscuits with gravy. You need to go there with an appetite because you really get large proportions. Even our grandbaby enjoyed eating their smoke applewood bacon. Our server Chris was an excellent server and very kind. Decided to give this a try based on the reviews and other things we heard. As always the Yelpers are spot on. Absolutely amazing food. The portions with just about everything are massive and were two meals in themselves with the amount of leftovers we had. I was craving a Rueben sandwich this day and our server said it was her favorite thing on the menu. And it was good as advertised with the generous servings of meat on the sandwich and the curly fries as a side. Stopping in the day before a holiday the pies and baked goods seemed like popular items as a lot of those were being sold but unfortunately I did not get the chance to sample any so can't speak to that. The atmosphere is that of a diner/cabin kitchen hybrid vibe with also a small bar area on the side so it has a down home feel to the place. We come to Pine Tops from the Velley in July every year. Last year we dinned in Darbis twice and were very impressed so we stopped by this time again. Unfortunately, the food is very different this time. Biscuits were plain and gray was tasteless. The worst part was three of our plates were barely warm. I had to ask the server to take it back to heat it up, however, it came back just a little warmer. We took the food back but eventually tossed them away. Very disappointed! read more

Well, I tried again for breakfast. While the food was fresh, it just was not hot. I even asked the waitress to make sure it was, but the only thing that was hot was the eggs. The gravy was just lukewarm and the hashbrowns were cool on the inside. I didn't bother with asking for it to be changed. I just ate it down and got out. Sadly, for $20 (incl tax and tip) for one person for breakfast, this should not continue to be an issue. Especially when you specifically mention it when ordering... Darbi's continues to impress! The food is just. so. good. The prices are reasonable and the portions are big!! Service is always friendly, prompt and upbeat and the atmosphere so cozy and homey. We took our parents and they were equally impressed. My mother-in-law asked for Worcestershire sauce thinking they wouldn't have it-- but they did and she was very happy! The SOB and the eggs Benedict are wonderful as is the big crispy French toast. I really want to try the giant cinnamon roll next time!
