Sooo happy this place reopened! It was great before and now it's even better! The menu is extensive; they truly have something for everyone. Salad bar was fresh with lots of topping choices and homemade salad dressings and fresh soup (turkey noodle just like grandma's) Breakfast tacos were absolutely delicious and hugely portioned. Love that breakfast, lunch and dinner are all available all day long. Turkey dinner was real turkey not a sliced meatroll or pressed etc, mashed potatoes etc homemade. Only regret was being too full to try dessert. The greeting we received and service was stellar. Kassidy (and male busser) was pure sunshine in the morning. She/they kept water and coffee full, table clean and a smile on her face. She would be an asset anywhere-don't let her go! Great team, great place. Good for families, groups, individuals or couples. From a 4 plus when they opened thru most of 2025. But - by the End of January 2026 we were both disappointed. We have visited this place a good six or seven times over the last year for B-L, and it was always excellent. The staff are awesome, the salad bar was superb, the food was cooked correctly at a great temperature and tasted wonderful. However, the end of January 26, we tried to go there and they were closed and we didn't know why. No sign. We returned the next week, and had breakfast and I don't know what happened - maybe cooks were a no show in show low. Super polite and fast service still occurred. Comfortable seating. But I'm Unsure what happened in the kitchen. Hash browns were white, no color, and thus tasted more like oil than potatoes. We both requested eggs over medium, and they both came out over easy with whites not cooked. In a bacon/egg sandwich OE just doesn't work well. But it was a good egg! The croissant was recommended for my brekkie sandwich and was good but the cook smashed it flat - that is a big no-go and defeats ordering a croissant. Don't know if I'm right or wrong and it does not matter to me, but they tasted like Costco croissants, which is great. I think they're fantastic for a commercial product and when heated up they are hard to beat. But I don't think this one was warm....they need to go into the oven for a few minutes to heat up the bread and liven up the crispy flaky nature. Sausage Patties were a little too brown/ overcooked this time. The Pancakes were delightfully still way above board though - delicious!!! We will return and hope the cook from before is back or that someone is overseeing the plates of food before serving them. (No updated photos). Please keep in mind that unless the owners are cooking at these places, or they have somebody there that is consistent and grounded locally, that sometimes keeping a good cook up on a mountain or in a rural area can be a challenge. We have good comments and we have suggestions for the Owner... 1. They have an excellent salad bar. 2. They have really good fish for their Friday night Fish & Chips. - as long as they don't run out... which they have on a couple of occasions Suggestions to the owner - 1. It is very very loud.... I noticed you have an older clientele and I'm sure we aren't the only ones that would appreciate you figuring out how to acoustically make your restaurant more quiet. 2. Your clam chowder soup looks excellent! However, it doesn't have much flavor. I'm sure you're concerned about the cost but how much more can it cost to just add flavor to your soup. In the last year this place has been remodeled and looks nice inside. But, sadly, the food just wasn't great. We got there at 6:30 on a Friday and the fish fry was sold out-- so maybe that is their star menu item. The ribs were tender but the sauce just so-so. The mashed potatoes were weird. The salad bar was lack-luster. The clam chowder was so salty I couldn't eat it. I think maybe they need to pare their extensive menu down to just the things they do well instead of trying to do it all. Service was pretty good with everyone working as a team. We did ask for a side of ranch twice that never came-- but not the worst error. All this said-- we'd be willing to give them a second try next time we're in town-- but it definitely better before. read more

Thought this restaurant would be a slam dunk for a solid breakfast but fell far short. Memorial weekend, Saturday for a late-ish breakfast, 10:45am 45 minute wait upon arrival, totally understandable Once seated waitress was super nice, needed a few minutes to check out the menu....kinda fell apart from there Place is big and i heard it was a new location But quite a few empty tables for the amount of people waiting They seemed to have a good amount of staff But noticed meals would come out of the kitchen in waves....but many diners like us were waiting a long time for our food Food finally arrived, 1 guest of mine received an incorrect meal The worst part is once that was solved the food was not good Loco Moco was ordered at my table, inedible I played it smart with bacon and eggs and my choice of side was biscuit and gravy. Eggs way undercooked, bacon same And biscuit was made days prior, cold with a gravy made by someone who does not like food. I dislike giving poor reviews, especially on my first visit. I wondered why a breakfast type restaurant in a large space would only have a few diners at about 930 in the morning. We'll I soon found out why. I ordered the silver-dollar pancakes with a scrambled egg and link sausages. The pancakes were rubbery and bland, the link sausages were kinda gray and plumping and I'd never seen link sausages like that, so I was kinda scared to taste them so I didn't. The coffee was just ok. This place needs to use better ingredients as you could tell the pancakes were made with the cheapest pancake mix or flour they could find and were tasteless. Maybe if the short order cook would add a touch of vanilla extract or cinnamon or anything else that would at least make the pancakes better. We had a group of four for an early dinner. We had fantastic service. We all had just a glass of water and the two girls had a Cobb salad and the two men had all you can eat salad bar and soup. The salad bar was fresh and had plenty of toppings. Unfortunately, the clam chowder was a little bit off, but the other soup which was a tomato cabbage was a good substitute and they allowed them to swap their soup out when they brought the Cobb salad out we couldn't believe the size. They were absolutely huge. All the ingredients were super fresh. The avocados were fantastic. We both had the blue cheese dressing rather than the vinaigrette. I would highly recommend the restaurant. The Service was friendly and our waitress had a great big smile which made our evening. Extra special. read more

We took some friends there on February 7 for breakfast. We had not been since the reopening. Everyone really enjoyed the selection of traditional to very healthy options. The food was fantastic, the atmosphere was clean and the service was friendly and fast. We would definitely recommend the shallow café to anyone! Great job! read more

We ate here on a Wednesday, around 5:00pm. Salad bar was included with the entree. The lettuce was quite brown on all the edges. We both passed on the salad bar. The tater tots served with my entree were over fried, very crunchy and tasted as if they were fried in old oil. Veg of the day was canned green beans. I specifically ordered cooked through. The pancakes tasted like they were done an hour earlier (like cardboard). We had breakfast twice in late August the food & service was great. We will definitely be back for breakfast. This note is for management while we were there at about 12:30 we witnessed one couple walk in, immediately the female was commenting on the smell requested to eat outside, another couple walked in & left. The waitresses were sweeping & had begun to mop the floor with fabulosso which is not an agreeable smell for many people. Probably need to wait to clean the floor until close. I was so happy the Show Low Cafe finally reopened so I decided to to have a nice meal. When I was served the ribs I ordered they were cold. The waiter was very accommodating and said he would remedy the issue. About 10 went by and the waiter came by to inform me that the were preparing a new order of ribs for me which made me happy. 30-40 minute later my new order of ribs finally arrived which were slightly warm at best. I had waited so long for my orders to be served I decided to go ahead and eat the ribs. The ribs were mediocre at best. A few hours after eating the ribs I was vomiting. Do not order the ribs and please make sure any dish you may order is hot and completely cooked. I will not eat at Show Low Cafe again. read more

We have been going to The Show Low Cafe for several years since 2021. In the years prior to reopening in mid-2025 (after being closed for over 1 year for remodeling) the food and service was normally pretty good. I loved the Friday Fish Fry, so we would go specifically for that when we were in town. The soup and salad bar (all you can eat in the early days) was great. We loved the local home town look and ambience as well. We also liked the fact that they had the fallen soldier table to honor veterans, and liked that they sold local items like the metal art on the walls, honey, candles, etc. The tables also had the cards of local businesses laminated into the tops that we could use for future resources as well. Fast forward to after the remodel and all of the things that made the SLC feel comfy and homey and local are no longer around. Everything was removed, gutted and replaced with more generic stuff and the walls and decor are mostly cold and bland now. The food isn't as good as it used to be and from the looks of the lack of patrons, we're not the only ones that feel that way. The place used to be pretty busy, but based on our last few visits it isn't that way anymore. The remodel is beautiful, yes, but sometimes less is more. Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater, especially if you want to keep people that care about keeping the local ambience and not making the place look like it could fit into any city or town anywhere in the country. Not sure why they didn't refresh the outside of the restaurant, as that part is sorely in need of a bit of cleaning up and painting. We specifically came up to Show Low on a Friday night back in October for the Friday Fish Fry and were quite disappointed. The fish was over fried and dry, the coleslaw tasted awful and the clam chowder was mostly tasteless. Salad bar and soup are now 1 visit only and the salad toppings didn't seem very fresh and they have less choices. Very different from before the closure and remodel. We have returned for breakfast after that and the service was good and food was good as well. The 1/2 and 1/2 creamers at our table had something white and clumpy in them and one of them was already torn open and empty, which was weird and made us wonder what we just put in our coffee. We don't recognize any of the servers anymore, so we figure everyone left after not being open for about 1 1/2 years. I really don't like to give bad reviews for small local businesses and I want this place to make it and be successful, but why did they have to change everything and remove all of the things that made the old SLC warm and inviting and actually feel like we in Show Low and not the valley anymore? I definitely understand a refresh and good cleaning and update was needed, but to take all of the local flavor away is disappointing and sad. It makes me wonder how the local residents feel about it all, especially the honor to the veterans and advertising for the local businesses being totally removed like it never existed. We get enough of big corporate chain businesses in the valley, we like to patronize local and different places when we are in Show Low when we can. We are future full time residents, so we hope and pray that Show Low doesn't go the way of Prescott and turn into something that is nothing like it used to be. That's why we chose Show Low over Prescott in the first place. Prescott has turned into a nightmare in the last decade or so. We were debating on coming in for the Valentine's Dinner special, but we're not so sure about it anymore, which is sad. I truly mean this as honest criticism only. The restaurant business is not easy to survive in, but sometimes business owners do not think outside of the box and realize that people do notice these things and they do matter to a lot of customers, especially local residents and people that are frequent visitors, which I assume are a big part of whether a business survives or not. read more

I have been a customer since it was before JB's and have been coming there since 1976 . Even had my Birthday with Mohammed Ali in 76. Today was different, it was Sunday about 11:15, the were busy but not packed. Folks leaving said it took a full hour to get their food and were not happy. I had to wait about 20 min, as I requested a booth. I was put in what looked like a school desk next to a wall. I had waited so long I went to my car to get a bottle of water . Finally get seated and the hostess tells me I'm not aloud to bring in my own water . She grabbed my bottle and stated they would bring me a water. Well about 15 minutes later one of the waitress asked if I wanted something to drink, I said they took away my water said they would bring me some and , I asked if it were true the kitchen was backed up an hour, she said yes unfortunately. I said I couldn't wait that long since I'm disabled and walked out. I can understand the wait, but for a kitchen that's backed up an hour when the place was not that busy. I come weekly and know a few of the girls that work there, but what gets me... why would they not allow a water bottle when it summer and they know the wait is going to be long. It's going to be awhile until I spend my money at SL Cafe. And I was so glad they reopened and wanted to support them. read more

After being closed for so long, I was looking forward to going back. The dining room to the right is very plain looking and pretty bland. The place was about half full and it took over 45 minutes to get our food. The food came out barely warm. My wife had an open faced turkey sandwich. The turkey looked like it had been chewed already. The vegetables (when they finally came) looked like they were initially served several days ago. Completely wilted, old looking and inedible. On a high point, the employees were nice. We'll give it a try again in about six months to see if things have gotten better. For now, we'll continue going elsewhere. read more

I ordered a burrito and had to ask them to make it over as it was filled with white rice. The second one they brought was just as bad. I tried to eat it but it was horrible. Full of white rice , barely any beans or onion or tomatoes. Manager wanted to make me something else but party I was with were almost finished eating. I left hungry but manager didn't care. Still charged me for the horrible burrito. I'll never go to Show Low Cafe again. Warning. Don't try it. Attempted to eat there, decided on the salad bar..... Big Mistake half of the options we empty. The lettuce was wilted and had slim on it. The salad dressings were empty and looked like they had not been wiped down along the sides for days. The soup container that had clam chowder in it didn't have a lid. Completely exposed to who knows what. Very disappointed. Not worth the risk of getting food poisoning. read more

I heard this place had just reopened not too long ago, but I have to say, it wasn't that great. My son had chicken fried steak which was okay, but I ordered the turkey dinner and was disappointed. The top of the turkey was extremely dried out and crunchy on top, and no, it was not skin. The mashed potatoes were quite awful in the fact that my mashed potatoes were mostly peeling and I had to search to find the potato. The stuffing was okay. The deep fried pickles were pretty good and the salad bar was okay. It was the main meal that was a disappointment. We probably won't eat there again when passing through town. read more
