The amazing joy I find is that no two market is alike, as this December 2022 at Ward Village event was held in the former Pier 1 location next to Nordstrom Rack. I had a blast exploring @AdamJK uniqueness as each of us loved the realness we can relate to each item weather a time that says shhhh, I got a stress ball that says "Nothing Matters" and I'd really like the hat "I really don't know what I'm doing" for work lol!! We walked across the street to the back portion behind Marukai. Admission was $3 for the adults. The two kids were free. There were food booths but we saved our hunger for Goma Tei in the Ward Center. I jumped on the bike that helped power the KTUH sound stage. I got a free bag from Kaleo newspaper. It had some cool goodies inside. At the Yelp booth, Raelyn played a trivia game. I won a Yelp thermos. Many vendors were set up in a two-story warehouse. We picked up some cool young women's clothes at a terrific discount. Andy Lee was making his art and kindly gave us a free sample. All in all a pretty good night for a family get-together or outing. Also, it seemed very pet friendly even though the theme was Tokyo. During some bedtime talk we agreed that this event was more art than flea, but the flea bargains were indeed great.

It's a bit of a cross between a flea market and a Chinatown. The prices will get lower and some vendors will wheel and deal if you walk away. I bought a carved coconut tiki mug that started out at $25--my hesitation brought the price down to $15. Dog bandanas went from $15 each this $10 each. You get the picture. If it's fun to look around and bargain, but be aware that we saw similar items at the ABC convenience stores (on every corner--like a circle k but much nicer) for, in some cases, a lower price. The Sanrio Hawaiian edition collectibles was what attracted me the most. But they are expensive. The prices are different ranges. They had a lot of workers running the cashiers and food. They also had some tables to eat at. There is an alley way next to this place and if you walk deeper in there is a more affordable flea market that has many tents. Some of them can be very direct since they are trying to hustle. I bought a few things like 3 croc charms for $5 and 4 Sanrio Hawaiian plushies for $20. They take cash or card but cash is easier. You can try to bargain as well.

The Kailua Night Market is held at 340 Uluniu Street in Kailua. It is the covered parking lot next to Assagio's. There is street parking and a metered lot nearby. We were able to score street parking that night, so the walk wasn't far. The use of masks was enforced at the event. There was a good mixture of craft and food vendors. The big highlight for us was meeting Miss Candi Shell, the singing comedic QUEEN! She was dressed as Mrs. Claus and just as FABULOUS! I am unsure of future dates for the Kailua Night Market. I know that before COVID, it was held monthly with different themes for each event. If interested, you can follow them on Instagram and Facebook.

I also got two bottled drinks -- the ume iced tea & lilikoi lemonade which were also sooo yum. The worker let me sample these two which was nice. I enjoyed the bottled drinks a couple days later, it was a refreshing treat. The staff were friendly & it didn't take long for us to get our drinks. The only challenge may be finding parking as they have only a few stalls in front. We ended up parking a little up the street on the opposite side. It was a short walk to the cafe & well worth it! I saw the pink food truck and saw they sold tacos so I decided to give their menu a look. They offer locally sourced meat, seafood and produce to create delicious tacos and Arepas, along with a refreshing Fresh Fruit Lilikoi Soda (I'll need to try this next time). I really love fish tacos, so I decided to give their blackened fish w/ pineapple salsa a try, along with the smoked meat with spicy chipotle sauce. The tacos were priced at $4/each or $10 for 3. The tacos here are a pretty good size for a quick early morning lunch bite. Each taco is filled with the perfect amount of garnishes (all their grilled tacos come with fresh Mexican crema!) so you can easily fit and fold for easy no-mess consumption. In terms of flavor, I really found both tacos to be very well seasoned, fresh, tasty, and very juicy. I'm not a big fan of sweet salsa's but the pineapple salsa with the blackened fish worked well together, although.. the smoked meat taco I think was my favorite of the day. Waianae can really do their smoked meat well out there and having it in a taco is just amazing! Highly recommend! If you ever get the chance to come out to the West side of the island, definitely try this food truck. They usually post where they'll be on their Facebook page (Waianae on Sat and Kapolei on Thurs) and I believe they also accept credit cards via square!
