Rice and peas, ox tail meal, coleslaw, and pickled onion. 10/10
Mackenzie G.

It is not often that I stop mid meal, open up my yelp and think "I need to let absolutely everyone know how freaking delicious this oxtail is." The rice and peas are seasoned perfectly. The meat on the oxtail is so tender and plentiful. They definitely don't cheap out on their meat supplier- this is some of the best quality oxtail I have had in a hot minute. The gravy is perfect. The coleslaw is delicious and creamy and fresh and - oh my God - the pickled onion and carrot just wow... legitimately 10 out of 10

Good amount of filling. Their spicy one has a little bit of a kick! Nice...

I've been trying to find the perfect Jamaican Patty for a long time... and while at it, enjoying what other foods that our Caribbean friends have been cooking up. I can't say that I'm an expert in Island Foods, however, I can hold my own in a hot sauce competition over jerk chicken and a good roti! LOL! After about a half dozen Patty places, it was Allwyn's turn. I've seen this place every time I'm at my Etobicoke client and finally, I made it a point to stop in. For the most part, this place is a take out joint. You sure are not going to be really dining in as the space is small, dimly lit, and a bit on the shoddy side. BUT I come for food and not the ambiance. In particular, I am here to try their somewhat unique trapezoid patty! Some kick you in the face, spiced up patties that make you want to grab a TING...! If you know, you know! LOL! For those faint of heart in the heat section, they do have mild patties. But, that's like baby spice level and most true people from the islands will talk about you as you leave! HeHeHe!! So what's the patties like here? Well, the spicy ones do have a kick and these patties don't make a huge mess as you eat them. Patties for me needs to have a bit of a flaky pastry breading. Here, it was more breading than flaky. Also, I found the filling a little dry-ish. I like my patties to have more gravy or soup as they call it. I don't want it to drain out after the first bite, all over my clothes, but it's a rite of passage. One must burn their mouth on super hot soup at least once or have the filling slide out one end ... LOL! If I wanted a patty and Allwyn's was close by, I would go. However, unfortunately they are not in my top three for must haves. Cheers.

Fried chicken

Left there about an hour ago and I ordered a jerk chicken sandwich and two pieces of fried chicken. The sandwich never disappoints but half way into the first piece of chicken I had to spit it out because it tasted weird. Well now I know why.....chicken cutlets is whatever but please for the love of god make sure it's cooked. This is not cool.

experience was just okay. I was expecting a bit more since they take pride in being voted the best jerk and Caribbean restaurant in Toronto (although no year was listed so who knows how long ago that was) Stuffed jerk chicken patty. 4/5 It was loaded!! Pieces of chicken was falling out as I ate. It was delicious and filling. I think its good enough to be satsfying lunch meal. It lost points due to the jerk chicken not really tasting like jerk. I didn't taste any spices it was more like bake chicken to me. Fried chicken 2.5/5 Oily and mostly skin again this dish lacked flavor and spices. The chicken was cut in a way were you can't even tell how many pieces of chicken you got. But mine was mostly skin. The rice and peas had no flavor either and the coleslaw just tasted like cabbage (in other pictures I saw it looked creamy) Jerk pork 3/5 The jerk pork was pretty good and had the jerk flavors that was missing in the chicken. The rice and coleslaw is where it loses points as previously stated lacks flavour Curry goat 3/5 Cut in large pieces. Was decent nothing to brag about. Your average jamaican curry. Served with the same flavourless rice and coleslaw. Would I go out my way to come here again probably not. The only thing I can confidently recommend is the stuff patty sandwiches, you can choose any type of chicken to stuff it with.

Was craving jerk chicken and Allwyn's did not disappoint! Really happy with everything, from the quick service to the prices to the food itself. We ordered off of Uber Eats as the restrictions are getting more strict so we didn't want to take any risks. We ordered 1 Jerk Chicken meal, 1 Ox Tail meal, Half pound Jerk Wings, plantains for dessert. Everything was delicious. Hands down the best chicken I've had in a while! My mom loved the ox tail and was inspired as she's been looking for new recipes using ox tail. Plantains are also something we cook a lot so we loved them. Rice and peas were textbook, same with the coleslaw. You can't go wrong with them and I kept eating more and more until I physically couldn't. The portions are very generous and the meat to rice ratio is fair. I'll definitely be ordering from Allwyn's Bakery again.

Large jerk chicken dinner with Jamaican patty on the side
Dianna C.

Came here for a quick dinner before a movie across the street. Food was tasty and portions were good. We had the large dinner with a patty, which was enough to share for two people. Jerk chicken dinner came with beans and rice, fried plantains and coleslaw. Jamaican patty was a good level of spiciness. Not much seating, but place was clean and the staff are friendly.

it's so hard to find a good place to get authentic Caribbean Food. so you come to the best in Toronto! (as voted on multiple food/Toronto blogs). right off the bat I'm going to tell you that I'm upset with myself that I didn't come sooner, and listen to everyone tell me about this wonderful place. came here in the middle of the week for lunch, there is not a lot of parking to speak of at all, which lead me to having to park down the street on the road in front of a house just to get my order. upon entering this tiny restaurant/bakery, my nose brought me back to my childhood, of eating at neighbors homes during various parties, celebrations, and dinners. this food joint takes a customer at a time and gets the meal ready right in front of you, not a lot of multi tasking between the layers of staff here, which is alright. one of the more impressive things to witness was that a couple in front of me was asking for alterations to the meal's after payment, and the staff was super accommodating. I got my food and I was on my way, and I will be back to try the jerk chicken wings! when I got to eat my Meal, as soon as the flavors hit my tongue, much like the smells on entry, the flavors brought me back to a lot of memories from my childhood that I haven't replayed in my head in DECADES. the one negative I had, which I will have to "try again" for a lack of better words, I grabbed both the jerk chicken sandwich, and the jerk chicken meal. the spicing and the flavor was consistent over both items, but the spiciness and heat were different between the two, which I can't understand how that's possible? maybe a sauce was added to the dinner and not the sandwich? this location has next to no parking, as it shares parking with a plaza but only on one side of the plaza with parking down the street in the residential area on Rothsay Ave. this location is serviced by a direct bus stop for the 80 Queensway on the north side, and the 110 Islington with a bit of a walk. absolutely would go out of my way to come back to this location, and other locations in the GTA. I understand why its been voted the best and no argument from me!

Beef Patty

It's a matter of personal taste, beef patty filling was good but I like a more flaky crust. Stuffed sandwich and the oxtail rice were also good also, overall a little expensive.

Was on my to try list. Ordered for my family. Overall it was ok. The chicken was overcooked but the sauce helped that a little. The best part was the Pattie's which are not the best I have had but were pretty good. I would eat hear again but would not go out of my way to do so

Plantains
April G.

Hole in the wall - highly recommended! Their plantains are amazing! Jerk chicken poutine was also really good!! Super flavourful, right amount of spice and the fries were nice and crispy. The beef patty was disappointing - not your typical Jamaican patty. Very thin and not flaky. But regardless I would still come back and try other dishes!

Coco bread + beef patty + jerk ch!!!
Winnie T.

Highly highly recommend Allwyn's! The combo of coco bread + a beef patty + jerk chicken is heavenly! Very filling and I enjoyed the chunks of jerk chicken at the bottom of the bag. Slaws are always a hit or miss for me and this was a hit - it added a nice crunch, was flavorful and not too sour.

There can never be enough jerk chicken in the area! Last night I made it over to the new Allwyn's on The Queensway. The intersection can be busy, but there is plenty of free parking on the nearby side street. I went for the large jerk plate with oxtail gravy and some spicy sauce on top. The plate comes with rice and peas and coleslaw and is a portion big enough to fill many, possibly even two people for about ~$13 taxes in. The chicken is plentiful, tasty and fresh and the rice and peas portion is massive. Overall everything was fantastic and I really enjoyed the meal. Will definitely be back to explore more options on their menu. The jerk chicken sandwiches look amazing and I miss driving up to Markham to get them so it is nice to have this option closeby.

Tish K.

Tried it finally and enjoyed the jerk chicken meal! Well made chicken and delicious flavours with the charred skin. The coleslaw was fresh and the right level of creaminess. The beef patty was decent but not my favourite. This will be my go to spot for jerk chickenn

We walked in and I was immediately impressed by how vast and spotless the place was. This is one enormous place. There's a ton of seating in the main area, and if that's not enough, there's a whole other seating area around the corner. Everything looked really tasty but we decided to try a couple of savory pastries, both of which were delicious and fresh. For my drink, I went with the Vanilla Sweet Cream Cold Brew ("Cold brew coffee with vanilla and topped with sweet cream"), which certainly quenched my thirst and need for a pick-me-up. I want to single out the staff, too. Everybody was super friendly and helpful, and the manager even stopped by our table and offered our daughter a complimentary bear-shaped madeleine. Paris Baguette is a very welcome addition to the neighborhood. We'll definitely be returning.

You've probably heard that this place has the best black forest cake in the city, and that's what drew me in. At first I was nervous not to see one behind the 1970s style counter window, but upon asking I was told that they had a frozen one which only needed a few hours at room temperature to thaw and be good as new. Or, it could just thaw out overnight in the refrigerator. But I had no time to wait, 4 hours would be punishment enough! In the future I will call ahead, to make sure that what I want is ready for when I want it. I had options. There was a small one, that I was told would serve eight, or a large one that I was told would serve 10 to 12. I opted for the small one, because for two of us eight seemed like far more than enough. Now, I understand why they say it serves eight. There are eight cherries on top of it, and I suppose each slice is supposed to get a cherry. however, each slice that gets a cherry better want to have two or three slices because that's the amount of getting with those sizes. I would say there would be no problem serving 16 people with the small cake. I'm a little nervous to think of what the large one looks like, but a little excited as well. You are free to sit down and eat any number of the treats that they offer in shop. There are a number of tables, and it's quite spacious. But for me, I just paid my $38 on debit because you can't use credit card, and vowed to return. I hear there's a tiramisu with my name on it, but again I'll call ahead for that one, and it would have been too much to order two giant treats on one day. Even if it was for my birthday.
