My first time here and I happened to get the manager, who was busy watching over other employees and answering phones. So busy...that the white tip on my nails was placed halfway through my nail, she was literally yelling when I asked about it..and then preceded to cut a big piece of skin of my toe while doing my cuticles for a pedicure! The bleeding was so bad it wouldn't stop! I asked for alcohol and she wanted to put fungicide on it (the one they throw on the water!) EEWWW. This cost me $75 and I had to run to another nail salon crying and begging them to fix the job. The other place had to re-paint my nails and put alcohol and bandages on my toes. Thank God I didn't get something nasty. Even the pink and white/fake nails I spent $45 came off within 5 days! NEVER going back here again! read more

I tried out Allston Nails because I just moved to Brighton/Allston area and I was blown away by the service and quality of their work. First you are greeted with a smile and offered a beverage which rarely has ever happened unless I was at a spa. I was seated immediately for my pedicure and the nail tech took her time and did a great job. Lan, the owner was very friendly and super sweet she did my gel manicure and I was very impressed. Overall the ambiance, music and decor are superb and I was surprised to see the pedicure came with the hot stone massage and the gel mani came with the paraffin wax dip. Most places would overcharge or not even provide these extra services which are a very nice touch. My experience was very positive and I will definitely go back! read more

I'm a huge fan of this salon. It's affordable, in a great location, and they're fast and the staff couldn't be nicer. The place is extremely clean, well lit, and the decor is beautiful. They also have a huge flat screen on with E! or Law and Order SVU on which is always welcomed :). I'm a sucker for a big polish selection and they really deliver; they even carry Chanel. Went in this past friday for a classic pedicure. As soon as I got in, I was instructed to pick a color and then I was asked if I wanted coffee, tea, or water. Very nice! The Tech did an awesome job. She took her time and the BEST part was the hot stone massage on my legs! The lady that does the waxing told me that they were offering free waxing all day this upcoming wed. and the BEST part... they use hard wax! I usually go to Elizabeth Grady on Newbury which is great...I am going to try this place and hope they do a great job (save me some $$$) from my usual Brazilian at Elizabeth Grady. The bad experience started when the lady who did my nail couldn't understand English very well. Normally I don't mind the language barrier in the nail salon, but this time, I told her it's hurt and she didn't understand. And finally, my cuticle was cut to the point of bleeding. She brought up the alcohol to clean the wound, and it stung really bad. The same process continued and the same thing happened to another finger. I got gel manicure and normally they have to apply the color twice. After the second coat, the top of each nail still empty with no color. So I told another lady that seems to be the owner what happened, she asked me if I had time so that another lady can fix it. She also said "for gel manicure, it's hard for the first lady to do just because they need to cut the cuticle more otherwise the color won't stay for long" I mean, you are supposed to be professional in nails applicant, that's why I go to nail salons instead of doing it by myself at home. I gave extra star just because the second lady who did my nails was really nice. My car was on metered parking outside the salon and she went out and added more quarters for me since I had to stay awhile longer. Ps. This place isn't cheap, the gel manicure I usually got is around $26, but this place charge for $33, might be because of the busy location. Smack dab in the middle of bustling Allston, Allston Nails is a fabulous place to receive a spa quality pedicure. I went in on a Saturday afternoon and asked for a pedicure, I then picked a color and hopped on one of the chairs. Since Allston Nails is fairly new, the chairs are comfy and the bowl on the bottom is pretty neat. The decor is definitely not like ordinary nail salons in Allston. The massive crystal chandelier is quite eye catching and impressive, making you feel like you're not in Allston any more. When the pedicure started, I was impressed with the precision of the manicurist and how wonderful she worked. A calf massage followed with a scrub and the final touches on my toes were done and they were beautifully painted, no smudges! The staff was pleasant and the salon is super clean! I know people have been complaining about the prices but like the saying goes, "you get what you pay for' and believe me it's worth the extra money to receive quality service. Having recently moved into the area, I had to find myself a new place to get my eyebrows waxed. I went here for the first time a few weeks ago and had a wonderful experience. The woman waxing my eyebrows was incredibly personable and had a conversation the entire time she was working on me. She was also gentle and did a great job fixing up my eyebrows. Yesterday I went back to have my eyebrows done again. Sadly, the same woman was not there so I had a different person doing the waxing. At first all seemed well. She was VERY gentle and seemed to be doing small portions at a time. Quickly, things started to go downhill. It took about 20 minutes for the entire process because she was doing such small pieces of the eyebrow at a time. Worse, she was heavy with the wax and it seemed to be too hot. As the waxing went on, my right eyebrow started to burn and feel very hot. When she was all finished, she had a very difficult time trying to get the excess wax off the brows and skin because she had used too much. The worst part of all was that when I told her I think the wax may have been too hot and that my skin was burned, she put lotion over it and told me I just had sensitive skin. The burning sensation from the lotion was so bad my eyes started to tear. I left very upset and even had to place ice packs on my eyebrows later in the day to help reduce the puffy swelling and redness. Today, I now have a very red area under each eyebrow that also has scanning. After this last experience, I would NOT recommend this business for any type of waxing. I hope no one else has to go through this experience because it is surely not what I paid for. read more

After my last experience here, I should give this place a 1 star, but I had a good experience my first time so I didn't think it was fair. However after my last experience, I will not be returning. I showed up at 7 pm and they close at 8 pm. However, they should put a sign on their door saying they really close at 7:30 due to how fast all of the employees try to rush out of there by 7:30. I would have rather been turned away and told to return a different day than pay $45 and have a rushed job. The woman doing my nails was in such a rush and kept looking up at the clock. She didn't touch my cuticles or do anything typical of a manicure. She kept saying how late she was going to be to get home due to how long it was taking to do my nails, which made me so uncomfortable. I even asked her if I should just come back and return a different day to fix them....( I got a dip manicure by the way). After I told her I was getting them done for my cousin's wedding she started to feel bad. She apologized for how "ugly" they looked! Wow! Instead of calling your work ugly, why don't you actually take the time to do a good job? I understand wanting to get home to your family after a day of work, but rushing through your job and even admitting how bad they look after the fact, that's appalling. This is a decent nail salon, but it's overpriced. I was able to get in, no wait, as a walking for a shellac manicure, on a weekend morning which was nice. They had a good selection of colors and the place seemed clean. There's a TV mounted on the back wall for those that like to watch tv while getting their manicure. The manicure itself wasn't the best I've ever had. The polish coating is a little uneven and they didn't do a hand massage. The do cover your arm in wax and then rub it off with a plastic bag, but I'd take a arm and hand massage over the wax bag. All in all, I've paid less for better manicures. Went here on a day off from work around 11am. Only one person working at the time and one other customer already there. She was extremely apologetic and called in another employee to come in for my pedicure. While I waited she got me water and let me soak my feet and sit in a massage chair (my favorite part of a pedicure). About 15 minutes later the extra help was there and she started my pedicure. Now, this place is a bit pricier than other near by nail salons but if you're looking for a nice relaxing and enjoyable pedicure it's worth it! They take their time and you don't feel like you were rushed and the quality was compromised (and they give you a hot stone massage with the standard pedicure!). I've also got my eyebrows waxed here and the difference shows. They will definitely be my go to place for this. The way I see it, pedicures, manicures, etc are all splurges so why not pay a little extra for a guaranteed enjoyable experience? read more

I went to this salon simply based on the fact that it was close to where I live, and that was a mistake. It took almost two & a half hours for a full set and pedicure. A good nail technician can do a full set in less than an hour. Now I would be fine with the time if my nails came out looking good, however they did not. I told the lady that I liked my tips short & she would not cut them and literally tried to argue with me about it, the acrylic was not put on evenly and the tips were barely attached, let's not even talk about the paint job. AND then she looked at my funny when I gave her $10 to split between her & the woman who did my toes as if $5 wasn't enough of a tip for the crappy job she did on my nails...The woman who did my pedicure however was awesome. read more

I have had so many terrible experiences here. Not just one where I'm mad and write a review, seriously I've given this place so many chances mostly because I live right across the street. The customer service is terrible and the quality of the work is garbage especially for the high prices. The owner has done my acrylic nails multiple times and every time she cuts at LEAST one finger so I'm bleeding, then proceeded to put my bleeding hand in the parafin wax that is shared with everyone. Today I got the worst pedicure of my life. It was rushed and painful I'm pretty sure she only did one coat of polish and they look bumpy and messed up. This was a truly bad experience. I am new to the area and was looking for a place to go regularly for my acrylic nails. I made an appointment for a fill and was at first pleased when they were friendly and took me on time. It just went downhill from there. They acted like they had never seen acrylic nails before. I wanted mine filed down to be almost flush with my finger, so I asked for her to make them a lot shorter. She buzzed a TINY bit off. I said no, MUCH shorter. Again, a TINY bit off. I gave it one more shot and asked her to make them the same length as my finger, and again, the tiniest bit was taken off. I gave up at that point and said ok I guess this talon-length is fine. The fill took an hour and a half. Usually this takes about 45 mins-1 hour including drying time. After the hour and a half fill, I had to spend another 25 minutes sitting in front of a fan because THEIR DRYER WAS BROKEN. How do you have a nail salon and not have a working dryer? I saw so many "wtf" faces from the other girls getting pedi's in the salon. Also, the woman didn't know what to charge me for a fill. She asked ME how much do I pay? I should have said 10 bucks. After she had run around the salon asking her coworkers, they charged me $23 for a not-french fill. Everywhere else, this is $17-18. Not worth it at all. Fast forward ONE WEEK later, my nails were destroyed. One had fallen off, most others chipped and broken. Usually a fill lasts me 2.5-3 solid weeks before it gets too grown out. I went back in and demanded my money back because this was unacceptable. They just wanted to fix it and I said no way. I didn't have 2 hours to spend at the salon for another horrible job. I went to Paris Nails instead and am completely happy with them. I will give Allston Nails two pro's: 1. The nail technician was very nice. 2. They give you the free parafin treatment. Con's 1. Very impressed! Went last night right before close (yeah I was that person), and they took me in for a pedicure without complaining. For 33 spent an hour in their massage chair and they massaged for a good 20 minutes, even did hot stones! They gave me a Christmas gift bag with lotion in it too... I've done regular manicure and nail polish at this place today for the first time and I will never go again. I guess the lady's name who has done my job was Katherine. I told her please don't cut around my nails too much, I appreciate if you just do it a little bit. I assume she wanted to do her best but didn't listen to me at all and cut around my nail to the extend that she ulcered 2 of my fingers. After she saw a minor bleeding apologized and I didn't get mad at her at all and even paid her tip because she looked a nice lady. But after 5 hours I still have bad pain at these two fingers that I can't touch anything with them! I'm so sad for what happened for me at this place and just wanted to share my disappointing experience. I'm adding this part after receiving the manager's response. It's great you care about your customers but I wish you have done this before doing the service not after! I went here earlier this week with a friend after work looking to get a nice, relaxing pedicure. What I got was indeed a pedicure, but I can't say it was nice or relaxing. The interior was beautifully decorated, the chandelier was a nice touch. We got there around 5 pm and were seated almost immediately. However, the lady who told us to grab our nail polish neglected to tell us where we could hang our coat, put our bags, or even what seats were going to be ours. After we'd figured everything out and got ourselves seated, we were in for the ride of our lives. My water was lukewarm, which my pedicurist fixed right away as soon as I asked. My pedicurist did a great job of ensuring she wasn't too rough on me by making sure to constantly checking my facial expressions and asking for guidance, which was nice. The whole ordeal would have been great had time not kept trudging on. 45 minutes turned into 1 hour turned into an hour and a half. After my pedicure was done she led me over to put my feet under the drying thingy and set my boots and left me there for another half an hour. She didn't come to take my card so I could pay, she didn't come to check my nails, she just left me there, with my feet freezing. All this time my friend was still getting her pedicure. I'd say the whole process from start to finish took 2 hours. A pedicure does not take two hours. By the time I left I was pissed, hungry, cold, and already running late for a fitness class I had later that evening. I probably won't be back, because even though they were thorough and my pedicure looks great, ain't nobody got time for a two hour pedicure. read more

I picked Allston Nails as a pampering treat to myself on my birthday, calling ahead to make an appointment and everything. It might have been the bad timing - my birthday falls on a weekend rife with college graduations, and I went around dinnertime on a weekend night - but the service here was just unacceptable, especially fwhen you're paying $20 for a manicure. I picked this place particularly to be pampered, and read on their website that every manicure includes the warm wax, a massage, hydrating lotion, etc. I did NOT get ANY of those services except the wax, which I have never done before. She barked directions at me to wash my hands and take care of dunking my hands in the wax... except, I've never been to the salon before and was a little confused on where to go and how to do it, and she started yelling at me and got very mad that I had no idea what to do. Not exactly fun being yelled at for not knowing her routine, especially on my birthday. I also had to wait 20 minutes even though I had booked an appointment, which screwed up my birthday dinner plans :( I know I know, #firstworldproblems, but still, they should really honor appointment times. On top of that, while she was doing my manicure, I counted her answering the phone or getting up to take care of other customers eight times, and she left one of my fingernails drastically shorter than the other. When it came time to dry, she just told me to sit at the drying bar, where she promptly forgot about me for a half hour. Eventually I went up to her, and she yelled at me - apparently we're only supposed to sit there for 10 minutes - and told me I was finished. When you're paying $20 for a manicure that would have been done better and with nicer service for less than half that price, it's just not worth it. I gave two stars because I did leave with polish on my nails and I really think this was an isolated experience with an awful technician (she's pretty nondescript, maybe in her late 20s, with a really big engagement ring on her finger). I also felt like I couldn't complain while I was there because it was just so busy and the space is so small that the technician definitely would have overheard - as would the other gossipy clients. I wouldn't be against trying the place again on a weekday afternoon when all the college kids are away. Otherwise, no thanks, Allston Nails. I've only had good experiences here. Whenever I get an oil change or other car stuff done at Herb Chambers, I walk over here after I drop my car. They are only a teensy bit more expensive than the numerous budget-friendly nail salons all around the Boston/Cambridge area, but they do such a better job! They really take their time and are thorough - they'll devote a good 45 minutes to an hour for a regular pedicure. The massage chairs are awesome (and work!) and they also do a nice massage of your feet. They are excellent at exfoliating your feet and trimming the excess away. My feet are neat for several weeks and personally, sometimes I even push a couple months..... Not everyone's English is perfect, so you might need to repeat yourself if you have specific directions, but they are attentive and very thorough. They even have a "sports pedicure" (pampering, but no polish) targeted towards guys who want to be neat and well-groomed - so sometimes I make it a date with the S.O. as well. :D read more

I originally came here because Paris Nails (down the street) had low tier customer service, and since I get acrylic nails ever other week, I figured I should find a worthwhile place.. and boy did I! I am always greeted like an old friend rather than just a customer, the space is always clean and ready, and my nails are always perfect at the end! Amy is a recent hire who is absolutely fabulous! She's done everything from Burberry, to flannel, to cranberry/gold French tipped nails for me. All my friends ask if I get stickers on my nails bc shes so precise in her work (which she free hands!). Worst waxing experience ever! I use to go here every single month to get my eyebrows done but the last time I went the service was horrible. I stated that I just want a clean up she responded by asking me if I wanted them to STAY thick. I said yes. After the waxing she started plucking. I felt she was taking too much and stopped her mid way through the first brow. (she wanted to keep going) Too bad I didn't stop her earlier because they are paper thin. I've come here quite a few times, since I moved away from Allston not as frequent just because of how far it is (I live in Eastie now). But, I've never had a bad experience. I get basic express pedicure and/or a gel manicure when I go and all the techs I've gotten do a great job. I think i've gotten all but one of the techs (i've been going for a little over a year now). Depending on the nail tech you get it could be a little difficult to communicate what you want but, for the simplicity of my needs, I pick a color and they execute well and that's really all I can ask for! read more
