I was struck that the caller used the term "victim" and "victimized" in his opening--I immediately corrected him, and he was evidently working from a script, because he just plowed on with his pitch. My impression is that this may be their mode of marketing, but I find it intrusive, offensive and predatory. I suggested they join the Austin Independent Business Alliance, and the caller replied that they advertise on KXAN. I bought a system from Dyezz, a local business who belong to the AIBA, and support local businesses. I shall elaborate my objections to the marketing strategy. If someone walked up to you and said, "Gee, that suit looks awful--I'm a tailor and I can fix it." How would you feel? Would you want to do business with them? If you had just had a major automobile accident, and a safe driving instruction school called and said, "Gee, sounds like your really need our services," would you react positively to that approach? The insensitivity of the caller and his hard sell approach didn't appeal to me. I think it would be far better to send a letter or a brochure through the mail, rather than calling. read more

I was contacted after a burglary in my neighborhood. I was shocked to learn it was only a block away. This was a wake up call, we have irreplaceable valuables. After researching, Allied was the best deal. Free instillation and free service calls. The instillation was that week, the team was very nice and professional. They understood how concerned I was about any alarm testing frightening my dog. They were very understanding and warned me before any tests. They ran into a few issues because they were installing over a previous owners alarm, but were in and out quickly. A few weeks later, there were some alerts on my screen , I called in and they had an electrician out the same day to fix the problem. My favorite part about Allied is I can controll my thermostat and lights right from my phone with a free application, alarm.com. I love being able to turn my lights on and off when I am on vacation or turning down the thermostat on the way home so it is cooled off when I get in! They explained the whole processing making sure I knew how to work the system, they set up my Ipad, phone and TV so I can watch the cameras from anyplace. Good help is hard to find and these guys do not disappoint. Had some surveillance cameras installed at our home and Jesus and Elijah did a top notch job. Not only were they knowledgeable but they answered all my questions patiently, were very polite and cleaned up after they were done. I did not choose to do business with this company because their estimate was much greater than my budget for the project. I will probably look into a simple system that I can buy and install myself. I would have knocked off a star because I thought they were overpriced, but this seems to be common in the industry - not unlike a mechanic charging you $40 for a $13 air filter. I contracted with them to install 3 exterior cameras at my self-storage facility 2 years ago. I thought that they knew what they were doing, as I had provided them with a very specific list of items that I expected the system to be able to do; cover the two driveways and the gate with good quality cameras that have good night vision, license plate capture, have motion detection so that when someone drove in it would start recording, allow me to remote monitor the system, and get email or text alerts any time the motion went off, and allow for offsite storage of the video. They assured me they could handle all of these items, and we settled on a price just short of $5k to install the cameras (a little driveway cutting was also involved). They were very punctual and got the cameras installed in a very timely fashion. But from there, it went downhill. I wanted motion detection alerts -- my home security camera senses motion and immediately sends a text to my phone with 3 photos -- but they could not figure out how to do this. Eventually they were able to send a text or email with no photos so I could at least look at the mobile app (real time, not when the motion detector went off, so not much help). They may have eventually figured out how to send an email with some video, but it wasn't the type of video you could see on an Apple phone -- a different format. I will say that the installers and techs were all very nice and tried to be helpful. But aside from the basics of installing the cameras and some basic configuration, they spent all of their time online with the camera and recorder's tech support department -- they didn't seem to know much detail about configuring the products they were selling. I kept calling back trying to get them to configure my system the way I had originally asked for it, and eventually someone would show up, fiddle around with it, tell me it was fixed, and leave. But it never really did work correctly. After about a year and a half, two of the three $800 cameras that they had recommended are now worthless at night (despite them coming back in April to "fix" them), and of course you can't find anyone else to service this brand or get in contact with the manufacturer in China. I think they just got tired of hearing from me, since they haven't responded to the last few messages I've sent. I've now gone with another vendor to replace the bad cameras and add some more. So in summary they are nice enough guys, and the install was quick. But what I got sold did not meet my needs, turned out not to have lasted very long, and they -- at least in my opinion -- were not overly technically competent. I would not call them again (they don't call back anyway) or recommend them to anyone else. read more

I recently had someone try to break into my home. I decided that I needed to get an alarm system to protect my wife along with other important items. I scoured the internet for any reviews on security companies. I talked to friends about their experiences and when it came down to it, I chose 3 different companies to reach out to. The only company that even bothered to make an in-person visit to my home was Allied Security Links (ASL). I did not know what I needed or anything about security systems in the home. Chris Tamez, owner of ASL came by and talked everything out with me, he told me what would be needed to protect my home. There were things I didn't know about and he did not pressure me into anything and even told me where to get things cheaper. He went through all the fine print with me and explained everything in detail. I gave them the go ahead on Friday March 29 and they were out installing my system on Monday April 1. The man who came out was Jonathon - he was very detailed and got everything done timely and efficiently. Chris came out to see how everything is going and to get final signatures on everything. Everything went great and the installation was superb. I cannot say enough good things about ASL, they gave me more than I asked for and I will definitely recommend them to anyone that needs a security system. read more

Here is our experience with Allied Security Links (ASL). Since this story can easily be traced back to the author by ASL's management, I will simply provide a factoid list of events: We contacted ASL in early March of 2011 since we were in process of adding a cabana to our property that we wanted to hook up to a pre-existing proprietary alarm system in the main house. In this context we decided to replace the old system with a brand new installation provided by ASL. The five year old existing wiring and sensors could stay in place in the main house, while the cabana needed to be pre-wired by ASL. The original estimate was $1,600.00. ASL sent an installer out for replacing the entire alarm system's electronics in the main house and pre-wiring of the cabana. The installer was knowledgeable and fast - maybe too fast! He missed a couple wires and did not document anything in regard of zone assignments. At that time, ASL increased the estimate based on several items that seem to have been overlooked during the preparation of the original estimate. It first went to close to $1,900 then slightly over $2,000 and it finally ended up to be almost $2,300.00, all within a 4 day window and not even including any monitoring fees. We accepted the increase and the system was activated in the main house by us signing a 3 year monitoring contract and paying one year of monitoring service in advance - well, that was definitely stupid on our behalf. Then problems started. We activated the alarm and left the house. A couple miles down the road the monitoring service called since we apparently set off the burglar alarm - the installer set the time for leaving the house through the garage at 30 seconds which is simply impossible to accomplish with two little kids. Sheetrock went up in the cabana and at that time we found there was no wire going to one of the display panels. Since ASL's installer wasn't available, we were told to run a CAT5 wire between the location of the main panel and the one that was missing, which we did since we did not want to hold up construction activities. The cabana was completed in April of 2011 and ASL's original installer returned to finish up that installation. He also attempted to correct the "leave delays" for activating the system, but messed up again. Arming the cabana also armed the main house and vice-versa so we had another number of false alarms. ASL sent another installer on site to correct the situation. Since there was no documentation from the previous installer, the new installer attempted to figure things out on his own. Later that night we set the alarm system and went to bed. Minutes later the cops showed up. This time, our regular alarm code was programmed to set off the (silent) panic alarm. At completion of the cabana, we also requested to have all the glass break detectors tested for correct functionality. However, the installer didn't have a tester and ASL committed to have somebody come back with test equipment (that they had to buy first). Over the course of several months multiple people attempted to test our glass break detectors, including both co-owners of ASL and all struggled to provide solid proof about their proper functionality. They even suggested breaking a sheet of glass in the living room which we declined. The second installer was sent back out and we jointly corrected alarm activation delays. In the meantime, we had gone through the entire system and documented all zones without ASL's help. During that process we found 4 unprotected zones and agreed on adding more sensors. Upon their installation by ASL's third installer, the system did not come back on, and we were left without any alarm system protection for a couple days. Then ASL suggested an additional power supply which was hastily installed by one of their co-owners. The very next morning we got woken up by another false alarm. One of the glass break detectors and a motion detector went off. We later found out that both were incorrectly configured. This time we simple felt enough is enough. We let ASL know that after six months of trial and error we no-longer wanted any of their services, and they agreed to let us go. But, not without collecting another $200 and making us waive 6 months of prepaid monitoring fees. We felt black-mailed since they would not allow us to transfer monitor services without us pitching in more money first. Overall we ended up paying ASL a staggering $2,959.75 (incl. 1 year of monitoring service). Did we get screwed? Well, I let you be the judge. read more

Best company involving home theatre and home security systems. Mike Rodriguez worked with me. I contacted three home theatre system companies, Mike was the only who wanted to see what type he could install, height of ceiling, walls to wire, etc. the other companies just called and gave an estimator. I was afraid I could not afford the system, but Mike asked me what was my budget, then worked with me. He was very efficient, amazing to watch his skill drilling holes in the wall and not make a mess. Very short time to install my system. System sounds great and expensive even if it was not. But what sold me was About a month later i screwed up my system by pushing a wrong button. I called Mike and he came over the next day and returned it to what I had before. Did not charge me for my stupidity. He can install security cameras so I can see who is at the front door without walking all the way to the door. I am 100% sold on this company. read more

I do not recommend this business I had warranty work that was subcontracted through Allied security links and the only person there that was professional was chad the service tech . Once it was determined I needed a new whole security system allied was suppose to contact the warranty company with a quote, I thought it was resolved but it was not . Allied did not contact the company back with a quote that my warranty would have probably paid . The warranty company calls me back saying no one will return their call And they called them 3 times in one week . So I call allied myself and asked them to contact my warranty company with a quote but instead because I would not sign a 3 year contact with them they told the company something different. Thinking this was a mistake I called and worked my way up to the top guy and owner Chris . Chris advised me I was a residential account and they were just being nice taking the service call and they have bigger accounts than me and if I wasnt going to sign a three year contract they we refusing to send a legitimate quote to my warranty company. Now understand allied had signed up with this warranty company as authorized vendor , but if I didn't take the up sale Offer they were not going to do what they had promised to the warranty company. I had to get another alarm company to come back out and obtain a quote for my warranty company. How big the account shouldn't matter in my opinion. I thought every customer was important. Thinking it get resolved was a huge mistake and I recommend to anyone find another alarm company that actually cares about their company wether your a big or small account. VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THIS COMPANY AND THIER PRACTICES! read more
