Used to go to shoot smart to the private lanes but not a big fan of the indoor ranges. They had plenty of open areas for a 25, 50 and higher distance. As well as a handgun section on the opposite side. We didnt have to wait on either side for access to a spot. They were very good amount the gun safety and making sure everyone was responsible with not only the time to change targets but also with making sure people properly were facing their rifles when down not in the wrong directions. This was my worry at a public outdoor range, but they were on top of it and highly appreciate it. Only downside is no FMJ rifle ammo allowed. So you either have to pay a lot for a box through them or stock up prior to. There was a small group of young people trying to one hand shoot to "be cool" which was kind of irritating, more because of the stupidity factor. But most people at least on the rifle side you could tell are gun enthusiasts who care about their shot and their weapon. Definitely my new go-to range.

Northwest ISD says it tried to work with the owner on safety improvements and couldn't even get a commitment. The district isn't asking to shut the range down. They're asking for reasonable safety measures to keep bullets from leaving the property. How is that even controversial? Every gun owner knows you are responsible for where your rounds go. If there's a credible possibility rounds from my range could be reaching a middle school, I'm doing everything possible to make sure it can never happen again. I'm not making the school district sue me. I support gun ranges. I want this one to stay open. But responsible gun ownership means taking safety seriously, especially when kids are involved. Fix the damn problem.

The entrance is just to the right of the range. I had a lesson with Brad on drawing from the holster, grip and accuracy ( which was not very good ). Brad was patient and informative and by the end of the lesson my skills were so much better. I was very happy with the 1-1 lesson and I feel more comfortable and accurate. I'm sure with some time and a little more income to expand / improve this will become even more popular. The class was held at a local restaurant/convenience store party room. It's handy, comfortable enough, the instructor has his act together and there is room for discussion, levity and conversation about self-defense, when to use force, when not to, when you can but should you etc... As it's attached to a convenience store, you've access to whatever you could possibly need and the bathrooms are clean!! (for you lady folk that may consider this). The range is a short 10 min drive and breaks up the middle of class and sets up nicely for a lunch break. As far as being "tea partiers" or whatnot, I take umbrage at that statement. Not a single person in our class (including the two ladies or instructor) gave off a "shoot first ask questions later vibe" or even anything political, aside from why we're all there to exercise our 2nd amendment rights. Shooing citizens away from firearms, safety, use of force and the very consistent message that deadly force is the last option makes me question the previous review and whether they actually attended this class or not. For the record, I'm a card carrying Libertarian and have zero to do with the "tea partiers". Epic fail bringing politics into firearm safety and carry / concealed instruction in the great state of Texas.

The class is in what looks like a Tuff shed filled with some really uncomfortable folding chairs. It's a bare-bones set up with apparently no heat and no A/C and only ONE toilet. The parking is across the highway so wear your running shoes to keep from getting mowed down to get into the building. The classes are quite large - ours was about 50 people. There are only 3 loaner guns so you should definitely bring your own. It had rained a couple of days before and the shooting range where we had to take our shooting test was a mud pit.

Drive through the blue gate to the private parking lot. Once you enter, you're greeted by one of the seasoned and knowledgeable staff members. You can tell that they're used to seeing regulars, but they'll "gun talk" with you, until you're blue in the face if you want. Pricing is much fairer here than other places (see pic). I brought my own guns and ammunition to shoot, but they have a nice selection of firearms to rent if you aren't a connoisseur ;) There's ear covers and goggles (complimentary and required) if you did not bring your own. It is a pretty "tight" place, but the stalls (4/per room) are spacious enough to shoot and reload. I love the digital target screen that allows you to adjust the distance of your target (see pic). Minus the men folk using the ladies room (put the seat down plz -_- lol ). This place is very solid.

I learned that shooting rifles requires steady breathing to maintain and sustain a fixed stance in order to achieve hitting a target. I have experience in overcoming severe traumatic brain injury, but it's not a bad situation for me or my family and friends.
