Great outdoor range in the area. Really nice location and for a mid-day semi-cold afternoon, it was great. Used to go to shoot smart to the private lanes but not a big fan of the indoor ranges. They had plenty of open areas for a 25, 50 and higher distance. As well as a handgun section on the opposite side. We didnt have to wait on either side for access to a spot. They were very good amount the gun safety and making sure everyone was responsible with not only the time to change targets but also with making sure people properly were facing their rifles when down not in the wrong directions. This was my worry at a public outdoor range, but they were on top of it and highly appreciate it. Only downside is no FMJ rifle ammo allowed. So you either have to pay a lot for a box through them or stock up prior to. There was a small group of young people trying to one hand shoot to "be cool" which was kind of irritating, more because of the stupidity factor. But most people at least on the rifle side you could tell are gun enthusiasts who care about their shot and their weapon. Definitely my new go-to range. read more

Beautiful outdoor range on a summer morning at 8am. I don't understand the NO FMJ rule even though there are others who have this but safety is my own utmost concern at a range and they are on top of their game but not gestapos. Being an an engineer I can foresee so many safety related failure modes that can occur at a range and I'm only emphasizing this due to others posts. Chris was a great fantastic RSO when I took my nephew to shoot on the rifle side for his first time and provided some excellent verbal instruction to supplement my own. Oh and Chris very respectfully let me know when I missed a range rule myself, and we all do it especially if we're training another. With that aside you all have seen the pics . The parking and bench rest area is nestled into a nice little wooded area and waiver check in is efficient with the use of 3 iPad setups. Wish they'd allow FMJ, have an "FMJ pass" for folks, FMJ day, or something like this. I mean even Decatur says no FMJ but they casually allow it from time to time. That's my only complaint but won't deduct any stars for it. Will definitely come here again. read more

Ridiculous management. We will never shoot there again. I brought my 11 year old. I'm standing behind the red line with binoculars calling out his shots as he is dead, centering the target at 50 yards. The range master comes up behind us and actually tells us that he is shooting too fast. There is a full second between shots. There was no reason for him to come say anything. This was after they made us buy their RIDICULOUSLY priced ammo bc they do not allow FMJ. Lastly. They knew we were shooting 50yrs. I didn't know the "target holder" is only 3 feet off the ground. Yet the a$$hat at the register let us buy a stack of full length silhouettes, which were totally unusable at the 50yr range. We will never go back to this s hole. read more

This is my favorite range for outdoor shooting. They are really helpful and will give you a discount if you guy a punch card. I shoot just handguns here so I can't comment on the rifle area other than they don't allow FMJ. One cool thing I plan on trying is the archery range. First time here with my son and father-in-law and we had a great time! The staff was very courteous and extremely knowledgeable. My f.i.l. had a new AR and needed a scope mounted and bore sighted. They took care of that immediately and then explained the method to zero your scope. Check in is fast with multiple iPad stations to sign their form and then pay your range fee and you're in! If your bringing your rifle, don't bring any rifle FMJ ammo or they'll make you walk it back to your car. They do sell appropriate ammo for the range at respectable prices. The ranges are nice and setup well. The range masters are safety first and ensure everyone is in compliance. The staff are sharp, know their stuff and genuinely want to help you have a good time. One of the best ranges in the Dfw area. They have a nice pistol range from 6-50 yards Small rifle Is 25-50 yards then larger rifle is 50 to 100yards. They have a nice police range and steel targets at the top of the hill behind the shop. They sale firearms and ammo, had some friends get some great deals on a few used pistols. The new range officers are very easy to work with and don't bark out orders like the one they had in the past. Pistol ammo you can shoot Fmj and hollow point Rifle is hollow point only. Don't bring loaded mags unless you need the practice unloading them. All the lanes are covered from the sun and rain, with window screens separating the shooters so not hot brass down the back or front of your shirts. read more

This place is not what it used to be. I grew up shooting here in the 90's. The RSO's are laxidazical and are generally not always paying attention. There are many people shooting and require a certain amount of professional vigilance from the RSO to keep the range as safe as possible. When I was there on a Sunday, they seemed understaffed for their volume of patrons. Also, I made a mistake on a range regulation and didn't not bring my case to the forward bench, but with a cleared weapon and muzzle in a safe direction- I took the weapon to the case. It is my responsibility to adhere to the rules on their range and I simply did not register this particular rule earlier that morning. I used the improper procedure to move my weapons to and from the firing line more than 5-7 times throughout the two hours I was there. I made it all they way until I was packing up to leave before I received a correction from the RSO. His correction was an unprofessional pleading with me, with a grimaced face, that I "please, please not do that again, please man, don't do that, please. " I understand that it may seem polite in text, but it was condescending and an unfitting reaction for an initial correction. A simple, professional discussion of the regulation I did not adhere to is all that is necessary. I have been involved in shoopting sports mY entire life and have been an RSO, Instructor, and police consultant for firearms training. I know a professional location when I see it. I used to confirm zero at this range and get bullseye repetitions done here, however I won't be back. All they have to offer that is unique is a long list of things you can't do at their range and a crowded and potentially less than safe environment. read more

The location itself was great, I had a great time teaching my brother how to shoot. I entered the range about 30/45 min before close which they let me know and I understood. At 6:00 sharp they close all lanes down, no arguments there, I'm all for gun safety and policy however, as soon as 6:00 hit an old man who happened to be a shooting instructor told us to hurry up and leave. The comment itself was enough for me to lash out and state I'm not shooting I'm simply getting ready and leaving (while I was loading my mags). I then had two other people come over and approach me and start "watch your mouth young man" I then stated "**** no, I just spent $150 to teach my brother who has never shot before who happens to live over seas". Of course we all understand what working is like and that some people can be a pain in the A$$ however I know I was very respectful till he and the other ROS's started giving me their state of mind. I respect the owner, however some of the workers older and newer should understand that life is short, don't take things to serious and learn to give some understanding and different perspective before giving disrespectful comments. (I was banned because of what one of the ROS's stated how I acted towards them. No harm done, I was just simply distraught by the fact that I was happily going there paid $150 only to get disrespected and banned. My words weren't kind however I paid for my right to stay on the land till 6:00 just as if you go to a coffee shop or restaurant they won't kick you out till it gets too late or annoying. I was there till 6:00 at close when one of them made a smart ass comment. Go there if you like, not saying don't go, it was a beautiful location however the staff there wasn't very understanding and very disrespectful. read more

This range gave me the best time I've had. It was my first time shooting outdoors, the RSO was super nice, helpful, and we had a really great conversation about stuff that you can do with leftover brass. I didn't catch his name, but he was super nice. Same with the guy in the office, everyone there was super nice. It's also way cheaper here. They give you a flat rate, and then you're in for the day, you don't gotta pay by the hour, like at any other indoor range in the area. Also, don't bring the wrong kind of ammo, they won't let you shoot it. But I accidentally brought steel cased ammo, and they were real nice about letting me bring it back to the car. The staff is very helpful and friendly here and service prompt at the shop. You can pay just $15 per person and shoot all day. what a deal!! The range is very easy to find and easily accessible from I35W north. Even on the busiest days, you can get a firing lane in a very reasonable time. The longest I've waited is probably 10 minutes. They have both pistol and rifle outdoor ranges with overhead covers. If you don't want to get your car or truck dirty, don't drive it here cause, the asphalt road ends immediately at the entrance to this place and its all dirt road to the range as well as the parking area. read more

This is a great outdoor public range. There is a minimal fee to shoot, eye and hearing protections if you don't have your own. There are two pistol shooting areas (you can shoot .22 rifles as well) and a rifle range. I do not know for sure how many lanes there are but there are plenty. There is also a law enforcement area for tactical shooting if you are a certified peace officer. I had heard negative comments about this place and apparently it used to be pretty run down. I have been going for about 18 months and it has been improved with every visit. There is a range master for each area who constantly walks the lane. Safety is a priority. The shop has a little of everything and decent prices which I found surprising. They offer conceal and carry classes as well. read more

I first visited this range about six years ago, and I was less than impressed. Not sure if the guy that Helped me was having a bad day or what, but it left a bad taste in my mouth and I did not go back for several years. About two years ago, a friend of mine wanted to go shoot for his "bachelor party," and this is the place that he chose. It didn't suck, so a few months later, another friend of mine wanted to take our kids shooting, and we gave them another chance. Even better this time... A week ago, about five of us went back to this range, and shot for about three hours. We had a ball. The staff was friendly, and helpful. The price has gone up a little over the past few years, but they are making marked improvement in their facility. About the only complaint that I still have about this place (and just about any other public range), has nothing to do with the staff, but the unsafe (occasionally) things that some of the other patrons to do. It is amazing to me how many people who (seem to) get their gun training off of The movies and television shows, but seem to know nothing about the four cardinal safety rules. (But that is a soapbox rant for another day...) I will continue to use this range (at least when the weather is nice) and if you live in the north Fort Worth area I recommend you give them a shot too. (Heck... If you don't like the range, at least you can stop by Buckys on the way home...) read more

I've been to the public side of the range several times and have had a great time each visit. For shooting handguns, I've started going to the private range up on the hill. It's considered a different facility so you pay separately. Definitely worth checking out--they've got steel targets which are a lot of fun!. And the people who run it are really helpful especially if you're a beginner. Took several lessons already and glad I did! read more

Great shooting range. I wish I could give them 4.9 stars but that's not possible on Yelp. The only negative I've found is that the very narrow unpaved path that leads to the range is bounded on both sides by a drop off gully/creek. If you're not a good driver, you could fall in. Other than that, no complaints. Many ranges are spartan with no equipment. They have lots of spotting scopes for rent ($3), nail guns ($1), ammo, targets, etc, in case you forget something. Their range officers are really safety conscious and pay very close attention to you. You are not allowed to draw from holster nor rapid fire. No double taps, either. They also have brass nets so hot brass won't hit you in the face from your neighboring shooters. They do NOT allow FMJ ammo on their rifle range, so be sure to buy some SP or HP before showing up.
