I had such faith in Les, since he was a previous client of mine that completed work for in the past. I thought I could trust him since I thought we had a mutual relationship, but I learned the hard way... you can never trust anyone - not even people you did excellent work for! I called Les, asking if he could replace my very old toilet, and he came out to my home and inspected the situation. First of all, after telling him that I needed a new line from my wall to the toilet, he went on to tell me I also needed a new line from the house to the toilet and the cost would be $185! I agreed to this and he completed this work. Additionally, I asked him to quote me for replacing the sub-flooring beneath the toilet and that I just wanted a quote, since I didn't have the money to complete this work until later next year. I really trusted in his opinion and after he quoted me $1,500 to do this job, I specifically told him that I did not have the money to do this work at this time! I agreed for him to come out and install the new toilet and that's it! When he showed up the next day, he started ripping out all my tile around my toilet without my authorization! I was livid to say the least! He never, ever gave me a written quote for this work, and I would have never agreed to this work unless I had a written contract beforehand! I always get at least there quotes before I commit to a job. On the day he arrived to install the toilet, I walked into my bathroom and saw him ripping out all the tile around my toilet, I asked him what he was doing, and then realized he tore up all the tile around the toilet! I asked him agai, what was he doing and he said... "I'll charge you much less than the $1,500 for the sub-flooring that I quoted you to do the other day to do this job! Since he had tore up all the tile around my toilet, I, in a moment of disbelief, somehow agreed to him completing this job that I never agreed to. All I agreed to was after replacing the input valve and then the line to the toilet, was to install my new toilet for an additional $200 dollars! Les, never, ever gave me a written quote on paper for anything he was about to do, which I believe every professional person in business should absolutely do upfront!!! Not only that, after he installed the sub-flooring around the toilet, that I so ignorantly paid him for. I recently spoke with two other contractors that came to my home asking them what they would charge for other work now needed and what they would have charged for this same job that Les completed, and both of them quoted $1,00.00. I feel that I was over charged by $500.00! I asked Les for a small refund, and he said no!
These next events ended up happening during this job:
#1. After Les ended the job, he failed to install caulking around the new subflooring against the walls. I certainly paid him over and way above what he should have charged me for this job.
#2. After Les left the job, he refused to haul away any left over materials and asked that he leave it in my backyard! Again, I had to call him back insisting that he come back and remove all remaining materials!
#3. Once Les left the job, I had to call him back asking him to come back out and recaulk all around the sub-flooring he put in! Seriously, any sub-contractor would definitely do this without completing this type of job and without asking me to do so!
#4. Les removed a door leading into the area he completed work in, reinstalled the door leaving it to not close at all! I had to call him back out after the third time to correct this problem!!! Seriously, when you take something apart, put it back the way you found it! If you can't, tell the owner right away about the problem and then how it should be fixed! Don't just micky-mouse it and never mention it to to owner! Take responsibility!!!
Well, the end result, after confronting this guy, asking him why he never gave me any written quotes or paperwork about what he was performing on this job, and a complete written document of all the charges... all he had to say to me was... I don't know! Seriously, who doesn't know this? He conducts business this way? This guy does not have my back or care anything about me or any of his clients and never, ever will!! Do not even consider using Les Davidson ever... He will surely over charge you and rip you off - not give you a written quote of all the work he's about to perform or the total price, and not give a same shit about you! This guy has NO conscience whatsoever!!! read more
