My experience with Dr. Yun was horrendous. I was a second time mother and had an amazing experience with my first pregnancy/OB just the year prior.
I was filled with anxiety before every check-up. Yun always had something condescending to say and in general, like the other reviews say, does not have the best bedside manners and is very insensitive. It was during the height of the pandemic and when I realized I needed to find a safer space to give birth, I could not find another OB to take me on this late into the pregnancy so I had to sadly, stay with her and her practice.
During the third trimester when she checks your dilation, I cannot emphasize how painful her technique is. Having just experienced this during my first pregnancy with another OB without any discomfort whatsoever, I knew it didn't have to be this way. She has a passive aggressive attitude, is controlling and is not respectful. It's very much, "I'm the doctor, you're the patient and you'll do what I say." A very outdated way of practicing.
I delivered past my due date for my first and with proper monitoring by my OB, and her encouraging me to listen to my body/the baby will come when it's time to come, my first child came into the world safely. It was a beautiful and memorable experience. Yun knew this about me and I told her that historically, the women in my family all deliver around 2 weeks late without a problem. She knew that I delivered past my due date with my first. But of course, the due date with my second rolls around and she reigned down the pressure to induce. My mother had a very bad reaction to pitocin, I didn't need it for my first but Yun would not STOP being aggressive about it and rolling her eyes at me when I told her that I would prefer to hold off. She exclaimed, "If you wanted a natural birth, why didn't you just go to a birthing center?!" She then added, "Did you know I've been given many awards for what I do! I know what I'm doing!" I'm sorry, what? Ego or insecurity, you decide. I can't make this up. When I tried discussing it with her, she began raising her voice at me (during the last visit) and finally yelled, "I AM NOT HAVING THIS CONVERSATION WITH YOU." and stormed out of the room, her nurses who are the kindest ladies in the world stared at me from outside the door with sympathy. Not sure who she thinks she is to speak to a patient this way. I stayed calm instead of engaging with Yun as I had to keep the baby safe. If it were any other situation besides a pregnancy, I would have never withstood/endured such verbal abuse week in and week out.
Yun continues to pressure me to induce and says to me, "I don't want to come in on my day off." I'm beside myself. After having been humiliated during the last check up and being pressured, I let her know, "I will check in." The first thing the triage nurse says to me, "Oh, you actually came?" Thanks to Yun, God knows what she said to L&D, I was received with the side eye despite the fact that I had told her that I would indeed check in. Not helpful. Thankfully, I had a doula and my husband was there during labor. If it wasn't for their advocacy and protection of me, I really would have lost it. They too thought she was off whenever she came in to check on us. Ironically, even what they thought was terrible was in fact, the best version of her I had ever seen. The pushing process with her was also horrible. Constant negative commentary and criticism. You don't need that when you are bringing a child into the world.
Other things to note. I have great insurance, she nickel and dimes you. In came unexpected charges and bills which are ultimately, her decision to charge. For e.g. charges for Covid Vax (I decided not to get it from her), charges for ultrasounds beyond the minimum that is covered. Charged for my personal medical records to be emailed to me. My first OB sent me my medical records without charge so this shocked me and also allowed as many ultrasounds as needed free of charge. With Yun, you really have to decide whether or not you are willing to pay hundreds of dollars if you are for example, wanting to see how the baby is positioned during a visit that Yun deems an ultrasound is not needed.
Her nurses are the kindest bunch who deserve all the praises and while they all love each other, I have it on good faith that they are not the fondest of her. An unsurprising reflection of her and her practice. I got close to the nurses as they were the only safe people there.
As a fellow POC, I chose her because I wanted to feel that I was in safe company and with someone who would understand me but I got quite the opposite.
My 2nd eventually came into the world (thankfully, in good health) but I had to write this to warn other expectant mamas. You have so many other great choices, stay away from her, be empowered and find the best care for you and your baby. read more
