Terrible experience for the birth of my first child. I'm still sad about how it went three years later. She seemed ok enough during visits, maybe a little short and not explaining things as well as I wanted, but I didn't expect it to be as bad as it was. It was my first pregnancy, and I didn't know what I wanted in a doctor as well as I do now. Dr Pourzand delivered at the hospital I wanted (Cedars- which was great) had convenient office hours close to my house, accepted my insurance (which was AIM- limited choices) and she was a woman, who I thought would be more understanding since she had gone through childbirth herself. I couldn't be more wrong.
I had a long labor over night, the nurses were great, so supportive and encouraging. We watched the sunrise illuminating the hollywood hills- everything was beautiful and we were excited. I labored through the day and the time came to push so they called the doctor. As soon as she came in it was a cloud of negativity, she seemed disappointed to be there- you'd think as a obgyn you'd know that babies come when they do, not when you want! She made me feel terrible, like I wasn't doing a good enough job, made me feel like crying, then she announced if the baby wasn't out by 6:15 we were going to have a c-section. I got really scared and was already exhausted from laboring and pushing (and the hospital doesn't let you eat either!) and finally my daughter was born healthy and fine- but that wasn't the worst part.
After the birth she was too impatient (or something! who knows, it wasn't communicated to me!) to wait for me to deliver the placenta, so she manually extracted it. She was so rough with me, it was like she was cleaning out a pumpkin. The pain was so insane I started to pass out- my body was shaking and they had to get me oxygen, beepers were going off, I was seeing stars and felt like vomiting- don't forget- I had just gone through childbirth- and THIS was excruciating and unbearable! My husband was upset and (as he told me later) the nurses looked appalled at the way she was handling me. He was so shaken up by what just happened, I just wanted it all to be over and never see her again.
I'm writing this (my first negative review!) now because I'm still dealing with billing issues and the desk staff that it took me over a month of phone calls, emails, and written letters to get through. It made me remember how bad it was, and how dealing with an indifferent staff is so small compared to the things that really matter like the birth of your child. So terrible. read more
