As i was walking by, a shiny storefront caught my eye... http://www.yelp.co.uk/biz_photos/6gV-0CW_Gl4lhwsql5_f-g?select=QJtgfFzd42-jpXBILAm0IA. My subconscious mind would not let me pass by without further investigation. My jaw dropped at all the beautiful coffee presses, percolators, beans, chocolates and italian candies! This shop is my little temple to coffee. **kneel** Oh java, thou art so toasted. dark roast be thy name. Thy espresso come, thy shots be done In my cup for takeaway. Give us this day our morning cappuccino for a pound twenty and lead us not to poor coffee and deliver us from instant. Amen. **rise**

Coffee? That's not booze. Well not every drink has to have alcohol you know. Turning a blind eye to your Costa's and your Starbucks with their 'Christmas' cups. One in the heart of London has seen it all. Literally. Algerian Coffee Stores on Old Compton St. When you walk inside you can almost sense the history of the place that has been around since 1887! I've only got into coffee in the last year or two but wow. This tiny place in Soho has a house espresso and cappuccino for £1! Pick up a hot coffee on the go while you window shop. Failing that, you could pick from a variety of beans sourced from around the world to take away is epic! Their is so much choice and when you walk inside you can almost sense the history of the place. I looked it up after I went again last week (I went and bought a batch of grounded Bolivian beans which I love to take home to my french press). With a glut of shops closing in Soho this must stay for another 100 years I hope!

As you Sasanachs might say, I'm chuffed to bits that I'm first to review this place. Since a friend tipped me off, I have been worshipping daily here, consequently becoming rather sentimentally attached. The wall of coffee beans and tea leaves from around the world seem for my delectation exclusively. All half-dozen quirky and helpful staff are there to serve yours truly. The massive variety of crazy flavoured chocolates are mine. The Chinese tea bricks are mine. The jasmine flower balls are mine. I have exclusive rights to do ALL of my Christmas shopping in here. Above all else, the 70p Macchiatos and 95p Lattes are mine. Actually, on second thoughts, why am I even advertising this place? Hands off, forget you ever read this.

When in London, afternoon tea is a must…read more I booked a reservation with Fortnum & Mason a few months in advance but when we arrived on a Sunday at 12:30PM, there seemed to be plenty of open tables available. A live pianist played in the front entrance. Staff were kind and proper. They offered to hang our coats in the closet. Afternoon Tea came with refillable teas, sandwiches, scones, and desserts. A Savory Afternoon Tea was an option as well, which doesn't have any sweets. I enjoyed all of the sandwiches. Everything was equally delicious, except the Cucumber and Lemon Mint. The Suffolk Ham with English Mustard had a nice kick. The Egg Mayonnaise was a classic for me. The Coronation Chicken was a mini chicken salad in a sandwich. The Kames Bay Trout with dill Cream Cheese is a great combination. I'm not a huge scone person, but the savory scones were very good. The Fortnum Strawberry Preserve was our favorite. For the desserts, my favorite was the Dark Chocolate with Hazelnut Praline. The Hazelnut Praline cookie bottom was airy and crisp. The chocolate inside was a light mousse. All of the desserts were extremely fragrant. The Rose Eclair and Orange Mousse played no games. I also liked the Treacle Tart because of its nutty flavor. I was incredibly full that I couldn't finish the Coconut Loaf, which was my least favorite. For the price of £85 per person, it was well worth the experience and the quality of the food and the service. Treat yourself!

The food here was fantastic and nothing I had experienced before. I'm obviously not one who partakes in Tea Parties all that often. But holy cow did this blow me away. The ambiance was upscale. You felt like a royal family while dining and eating the queen's favorite finger foods. The service was unfortunately subpar. But the whole experience is one of the few that can overshadow that fact. It's expensive. But well worth the price of admission.

I went in 2 different times: saturday at 3pm and wednesday at 10am. Two completely different vibes. I was a bit scared to get this since i was by myself but let me tell you, it was not heavy as i expected it to be. Just delicious overall and would totally recommend. Chocolate strawberries: I love strawberries and chocolate but definitely think you can find cheaper alternatives anywhere in london. Bread Ahead: my new favorite pastry place. I pretty much got a donut from this place (not this location) everyday because the black currant cheesecake donut was that good. I got the tiramisu and crème brûlée donut which my brother liked and i wish i could've tasted them before they went bad but anyways, I would totally recommend the donuts from here! Their chocolate chips cookies are HUGE and delicious as well. This was probably one of my favorite markets!

Tip: You must visit this food hall. It's awesome!…read more You know what? When there's a listing for a department store food hall, you know that it's good. No, not good. Fantastic! I was at this food hall in December 2013. It's located on the ground floor of this large department store. The displays are extremely fancy and captivating. I recall seeing mini cakes that looked yummy. Even the fruit in the display case, as in apples, pears, and more, looked amazing and in pristine condition. The pastries looked scrumptious. I could smell the croissants! You can get sandwiches, from egg salad to lobster rolls. Feel like steak and chips? Yep, you can get them here, too. I frankly couldn't tell you what you can't get here. I felt like a dream seeing so much good food, but it wasn't. It's definitely worth a visit, whether you end up browsing like me because the prices were steep or you end up splurging. There was a wine section that had shiny bottles of fancy wine varieties. You could get cheese to complement your wine. Everything in this store looked beautiful and elegant. I would do a few things differently when I return to this food hall: - I'd do afternoon tea. I'd actually splurge to experience tea here because I didn't realize that I could until after my Harrods visit. - I'd find a hotel room with a fridge, so I could bring back pastries, macarons, sandwiches, and more. - I'd dine here to experience the entire food hall experience instead of dining at a restaurant within Harrods. The more I reminisce about where I've been in London, I want to return! (55)

Normally I wouldn't buy bottled water, but I couldn't resist -- this water was so pretty and looked so refreshing, with pieces of fruit in it. (We bought one with cucumber and one with bright pink dragon fruit.) For two sandwiches and two bottles of water, it came to £28.50. Not particularly inexpensive with the currency conversion (ouch!) but much cheaper than going out for lunch. Also, the sandwiches were delicious! It's a shame that we couldn't find the food hall when we had first visited Harrods two days prior. [Yelp collections: Europe 2024; London, England]

And in my lunch box. And in my bowl with milk in the morning. Too bad I can't afford it all. Although the store doesn't have astronomical prices and I do think it's cheaper than Holland and Barrett, it is more expensive than your chains like Iceland or Tesco Metro. Sad but true. The prices were NOT terrible, but more than I felt like spending. On a day I feel like treating myself, however, I will definitely go back. Also, as a note, I heard one member of the staff advising a customer on nutrition, and I think he gave some good suggestions. The only reason I knocked it down a star I price is because it's more expensive than general grocery stores, but that's always the case in this sad sad world. Woe is us poor organic food lovers.
