I'm not sure my coke needed to be served a jar. The glass next to it would have sufficed...

Following the wonderful Elite event nearby, we wandered off to find some food. We had been looking for a Lobster Bar after reading Alex's review of it, but I misread the map and ended up down near here. We were going to go into Ping Pong, but it was full - and then spotted a Greek restaurant which was only nearly full. Now I'm sure that many of you have been to Greek restaurants - well this is much more modern (with the exception of a complete lack of mobile phone reception inside!!), although it might try a little too hard in places. For example, our cokes arrived in jars. The majority of the menu are sharing plates, and we opted for two between the two of us and that was plenty. We had the spreads and bread selection and the meatballs. There was no trouble substituting one of the spreads, swapping out the salmon spread for more feta. Of course the ironic thing was that while I liked the feta spread, the missus didn't because she's not a huge fan of smoked paprika. The cold mezze came first, quite a while ahead of the meatballs. There were two types of bread, one quite soft and the other harder and more rustic. The meatballs grew on me - firstly they're not balls, they're more of a Turkish kofta size and shape but obviously Greek in flavour. Plus they went very well with the lovely spreads. The texture was interesting, as there were raisins in there, and the flavours too as they were covered in a hard Greek cheese and crushed pistachios.

Spreads and bread and Coke in a jar (why?)

I loved the feel of the place. Small but generous in personal space. Extra effort was made to make sure our party of 6 were comfortable. And the food was delicious. The welcome pre dinner treats such as olives, radishes, and peppers were delightful. Then came the hummus--best I have ever had. The king prawns were simply cooked and wonderful. Everything was so fresh! The calamari, the Greek salad. All excellent. The entrees our party enjoyed included lamb, chicken, spanakopita, falafel, and so much more. If I lived in the area, I would frequent the place. I even commented to my wife that I could see myself landing at LHR and making my way straight to Aphrodite!

But our host was the most pleasant man and fished out items from the kitchen that weren't only vegan but also delicious! To begin with, even without ordering anything, pitas, flava bean salad, and olives, which, by themselves, more than hold their own. The falafels are one of the best I've tasted in London. And the hummus was unbelievable. For mains, the dolmades were excellent. Even the roasted potatoes that our host offered, and which weren't on the menu, were amazing. Overall, the chefs and hosts at the Aprodite Taverna take real joy in feeding people. And I'd definitely go here again: for the food as well as the service.
