We were very excited to be going with our friends to celebrate their 45th anniversary at Alexanders on Saturday evening We had reservations for 7:00 and arrived on time and were quickly seated. The restaurant was full and very noisy but lively so I had no complaint with the noise. We told the server that it was our friend's 45th anniversary and he congratulated them on such an exciting event. My friend brought a special bottle of wine to enjoy with our dinner. From that point on it was just awful. We waited forever to order appetizers and to get the bottle of wine opened. We told the server to let the wine breathe before pouring any. He ignored that and poured wine for two of us anyway. We ordered two special cocktails and both we terrible. One was remade and the other we just didn't drink. It took almost an hour (seriously an hour) before the appetizers arrived. The explanation was that they had an 80th birthday party for 30 people upstairs and it had backed up the kitchen so please understand. If they had a party for 30 people they should have planned for that, not just let all of the other guests just wait, and wait and wait. Finally the owner, Joe I guess, came by and said "sorry for the delay". After an hour and twenty-five minutes the food arrived. I will honestly say that at that point I was done and if it had not been our friend's anniversary we would have left. The saving grace was that the steak that I ordered arrived and it was perfection. It was delicious, cooked and prepared perfectly. The other main courses were wonderful also. The sides were okay. At this point we had been there almost two hours, waiting over an hour and half to get food. I expected that at the least, knowing that this was an anniversary dinner and so far it had been less than perfect, the owner would come by and offer dessert to say congratulations and thank us for waiting and staying. I guess my expectations were too high. Instead the server never acknowledged that this was a less than great experience and never offered anything. The owner sat at the bar on the phone. We've had dinner twice here in both times was very good. The first time you could see that it was a new restaurant that was shaking things out in the service area. Food was great. My wife took me to Alexander's for my birthday. We sat at the bar waiting for our table. The drinks were well prepared by the female bartenders that definitely know how to make a perfect dirty martini and Old Fashion! Once seated, our waiter took the time to explain the menu. We had bread and water glasses filled immediately. We had very fresh salads and the steak. Wife had a NY Strip and I the Filet with sides of string beans and mashed potatoes. Everything was cooked to perfection. It is the BEST steak I've had since living here for the past 8 years! Cooked perfect, so tender I could cut it with my fork. During dinner the owner came by to check on us. The story behind the place is very interesting. I recommend Alexander's for special occasions. We were both feeling steak for our anniversary supper . When I couldn't find th steak house we had gone to a year earlier, we searched the reviews. We were a few blocks from Alexander's and after reading the reviews, decided to give it a try. We are very glad we did. My wife had the NY Strip and fries and I had the 10oz filet mignon with fries. We shared a large house salad and had fried calamari as an appetizer. Everything was really good. The steaks were tasty and season very lightly not over done with spices like you see on the Longhorns commercials. Matt was our server and kept out glasses filled with water and coke as well as giving advice on the different plates. For dessert, we both had the chocolate crunch cake with gelato. We saved it to eat at the condo. Wow! The atmosphere was inviting, warm and nice. The entire staff was friendly. The prices were appropriate and gave us a new restaurant we look forward to revisiting each time we are in the area. It was a wonderful way to begin our anniversary night. Fantastic restaurant on all points! Took my dad for his 93rd birthday. The food was perfect. My Favorites were the filet mignon medallions. Table sides of spinach soufflé, mashed yukons, hashbrowns, and asparagus were all great. One friend ordered the special of scallops with a green curry that smelled insane! Prices are a little too high and the credit card fee was $10 also ridiculous. Nice place but weird layout. I did notice the server stuck her fingers into used glasses to pick them up when bussing the table and then with the same hands was setting the table with clean plates a minute later, so that was a major turnoff and the staff need training on that part. First, you do not ever stick your fingers into a glass to take it off the table, second you're literally transferring that person's saliva onto a clean plate that another will be using. So I question the attention to hygiene. If she washed her hands in between, great, but I didn't see it and perception will make or break you. The owner needs an immediate preshift to address that. read more

Excellence all around. The atmosphere is warm, cozy and invites conversation with background music appropriately heard. The service was efficient, respectful and timely. No cell phones visible and attention to detail just right. The food was top shelf with many choices. My little group shared appetizer and dessert but each selected the burger that was again beautifully plated as though it was the finest filet Mignon. Just don't bother - 4 of us went for dinner. One of us ordered her steak medium well; it arrived medium rare; she sent it back, it came back medium rare again; back it went to be returned well done. The manager came to our table and said they would not do it for her a third time and he would take off her bill. No apology and no offer for a new steak to be prepared the way she ordered. So, she had no dinner. Another of our group ordered his steak medium well and it came medium rare. He ate part of it. The third member of our group ordered salmon, grilled with no spices; it arrived covered in butter and spices that ruined the flavor; he decided to not send back and chalked the dining experience up to a bad experience. Would not go again, while the food was decent our entire party felt very rushed throughout the whole dinner. You would have thought that the restaurant was closing in ten minutes... our server, Kate maybe? While very attentive and nice, was almost pushy coming back every two minutes while we were just chatting and trying to enjoy our wine and company. Went to this restaurant for a special event Saturday night. Decor in the restaurant was fabulous. Our server was outstanding and took excellent care of our party of 20. We started with drinks and appetizers. The crispy calamari was so delicious!!! We moved on to Caesar salad. The salad was very fresh with just the right amount of dressing. The croutons were crispy and delicious. The steaks were cooked to perfection, perfect temperature, juicy and beautifully seasoned. Not to mention wonderfully tender. For sides we had the skillet hash browns, mashed potatoes and the creamed spinach. All of it was absolutely delicious. I don't know what they called the dessert we were served, but it was a like a small round beignet. Nice and warm, the perfect amount of melt in your mouth sweetness. Finally! A truly exceptional dining experience in Ormond Beach! Surprisingly, Alexander's Restaurant was packed on a Monday night. The place looks refreshed and welcoming! The staff are attentive and friendly. My waiter, Trevor, made spot on recommendations and provided excellent service: The specialty cocktail, a small batch bourbon elixir, was warming and yummy. The bucatini with clams and shrimp was the best pasta dish that is currently being served in all of Volusia County. (In my humble view, of course, and I have tried all of the local restaurants worth trying.). The desserts are made on premise. The carrot cake was just the way that I like it, not too sweet with a moist carrot flavor. The owner, Joe Oliva, is an old-school restaurateur with a lifetime of experience from the high-end NYC restaurant scene. Fantastic quality food and friendly service at a very fair price. It was our first time dining at Alexander's. We were a party of four. My boyfriend and I ordered the Delmonico steaks. I ordered mine medium, and he ordered his medium rare. Our friends ordered fillets. Our server, Kayla, was excellent, but, when our steaks came out to the table, our friends filet mignons were cooked perfectly. Our Delmonico steaks looked like they were still "mooing!" We had to send them back to be cooked more the way we ordered them. In the meantime, we told our friends to start eating their meals so they wouldn't get cold. They said they'd wait, but of course, in the meantime, theirs got cold the whole idea of going out to dinner to be served and all eat at the same time the manager or whoever he was, came over to the table and apologized. I was surprised that we were not comped the desserts that we ordered. I believe a great restaurant would do that with no problem. This restaurant was a treat for us as it is very expensive, the desserts are not, the second issue is that they sat us in the very back room, which stinks from cigar smoke. I am highly allergic to any kind of cigarette or cigar smoke. I came home with a headache and a cough. I think maybe they need to change the carpeting or the drapes out which you're holding the smells of the cigars. Not good for a nice restaurant. If they would've at least been kind enough to comp the desserts for their mixup with our meals, we would've certainly come back. Now I'm not so sure that I'll give them another try. read more
