Alexander Movers are absolutely terrible. We had a 4 man crew for a local move. The "movers" were extremely slow and careless. Many items were broken. They are not real movers. Just random guys with a truck. One guy appeared to be intoxicated or under the influence of something. It took 3 hours just to load up the truck. Inefficiently done. A 3 bedroom apt with about 2 bedrooms worth of stuff. It should not have taken 5+ hours for an apt move. One guy who stayed on the truck was taking a break, sitting on my sofa, talking on his phone instead of loading the truck. When I commented on it he became belligerent and continued to talk on the phone, moving items with one hand. No effort, no hustle. A complete waste of time. If I didn't help we would still be loading the truck. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY. Trust me you will regret it. Also the moving truck has a hole in the top of it, so if it rains your items will be wet! They only accept cash which they demand every two hours. Seriously these other 5 star ratings cannot be real. These people are NOT PROFESSIONAL MOVERS. No real movers that are hired to do a move will gripe about the scope of work. They had no dolly's or other equipment. Wardrobe boxes or anything to help with the move. It shouldn't take 5+ hours to move literally 8 blocks.

This is by far the worst company I've ever used for a move. I was charge for 4 hours all for them to leave my furniture in the hallway assuming that I didn't have more money. Please don't use this company poor customer service, they don't wrap your items. I'm also reporting them to BBB. This a black owned business with horrible service. Single women please have a man with you on the day of your move.

Furniture being moved with out being wrapped

My husband and I hired Alexander Movers for a small move on February 29th after being referred to them by a friend who claimed to have used them several times without issue. We needed to move furniture ONLY 3 bedrooms, living room, and dining room furniture nothing major. We also took down both beds with the exception of 1 because it requires more than 1 person to take down the bed and I couldn't help my husband with that. We hired 4 guys (so that things could roll as quickly as possible as we had an event scheduled for later that day) and paid for 3hrs. We were told initially that they would arrive between 9:00am-11:00am, we called multiple times and were told that they were on another move, we finally got in touch with someone from the office and was advised that we were given the incorrect time and that they would arrive by 4:00pm. They arrived to my house around 3:45pm my husband completed a payment and signed an estimate of charges form and they began moving our things. It took 4 people almost 2 and a half hours to move less than 15 pieces furniture that had already been broken down for efficiency and convenience. They complained of being tired from moving all day and was happy that this was their last move for the night. 1 of the guys that was there to assist with the move disappeared for what seemed to be an hour, and the other guy that was there was an older gentleman who basically gave orders and helped take down the 1 bed that I mentioned above. They were supposed to wrap our furniture so that there were no damages sadly, they did not wrap some of the furniture, and the furniture that they did wrap was not done properly resulting in damages. When we got to our destination conveniently our time had run out and they had an instant boost of energy moving the same pieces of furniture that took 2 and a half hours to move out of the old house, into the new house in less than 20 minutes. The guy who acted as a supervisor told us they would not be setting up our furniture (which we paid for) or moving it to the appropriate area's of the house unless we paid for more time. Paying for more time was out of the question because we paid for ample amount of time given the amount of furniture that we had. My husband signed a carbon copy of a form and they left. I called the owner to explain all that happened the conversation got very heated after the owner rudely told my husband and I we were making "lot of noise" by voicing our complaint. We agreed to disagree and ended the call. I inspected my furniture and noticed damages and I made a note to call the owner that following Monday. I called him and explained my damages and he promised to send a mitigator by the name of Dwayne to my property by the end of the week. That never happened so I reached out to my attorney to have her contact the owner. The owner sent her several documents (that we've never seen before) with my husbands signature that of course protects his company. I have never seen the original copy's of these documents and my husbands only recalls signing 3 documents but he furnished 7 to my attorney, I would love to see the original copies of the documents but I'm sure they will never surface. This move was nothing short of a nightmare, We were left with damaged furniture, paid for services that were not received, and then hit with these mystery documents that takes the liability from the moving company and places it on the customer. This was a lesson learned for us , had I took the time out to read the reviews about this company that were left by other customers having some of the same experiences I would have never hired them. I hope this review helps others. I WILL NEVER USE THEM AGAIN, NOR WILL I EVER REFER THEM TO ANYONE THAT I KNOW.

Horrible customer service. Movers were late (my window was Friday, October 31 from 12-2 and the movers arrived at 3PM), drunk, I smelled it all on their breathe, rude, moved slow and then left on their way to the new location and did left boxes at old location. I called back twice and on the second call, they said, "oh we forgot." I called the main phone number three times and left two messages and no one called back. Once we got to the new location the driver and lead mover talked about it being too cold to move, talked about moving up to the second floor and the fact that their ready to get off-this was heard by me and my downstairs neighbor. The driver dropped two boxes and two plastic containers, breaking contents inside box and broke the two containers. The sad part is he got up and picked them up and placed them and walked out as if I did not see him- nor did he apologizing nor report the issue. I asked the main driver, what happens when things are broken he said "what do you want me to do," I then asked for the protocol and he told me if I don't pay or hold the pay he would keep my TV. The main mover continued to tell me this is not his money he only works for Alexander movers and he know the law. I, was referred by mom who has this company twice and they were fast and efficient and completed the move in three hours, did not complain, was not drunk and was not threaten. I am still waiting for a call from the owner, who was suppose to call me this morning on Saturday, November 01, 2014. read more

When I called, I informed the representative that this was a sensitive move as my sister was leaving an abusive relationship. I made the deposit, but just a few hours later, my sister decided that she had to just leave. So, I called back to cancel. Be aware that even if you call back within a few hours, you will lose your deposit. I understand that there are rules, but there are also extenuating circumstances sometimes. read more

We used Alexander's Movers this past weekend and I would have to agree with the other reviews. The supervisor kept saying he'll take care of us if we take care of him. If you plan on using Alexander movers my recommendation would be that you have all your furniture taken apart and not have them do it and everything I mean everything packed. They damaged a wall in the hallway after we had asked them to remove the legs off the dinning room table over and over again. And of course, they wouldn't accept responsibility for it. I will say that the guys were very courteous and made it a point to introduce themselves. I liked that they did that...I mean come on they are in your house touching your stuff it's nice to know who they are. They were very fast. If you are looking for a company that will help you sort the boxes into the rooms then they are not for you. Again, I would recommended them only if you have everything packed and you dismantle all your furniture. read more

The Movers was nice but the company is horrible, they charges my credit card twice for 50.00 they stated that they would add the 100.00 in my total they did not and gave me a hard time when I asked for my 50.00 to be credited back to my card. when I talk to the so called manager he asked me to email the receipt like I was not truthful and never got back to me. so to make a long story short they are rude and I will not use them again ever. Recently I used this company to move my personal property. Four men and a truck, polite and friendly. Arrived on schedule 10am. After loading my move out location onto the truck, somehow I arrived to the new location long before the crew ( might I add, I made two stops). I waited 15 minutes after my arrival before contacting crew. I phoned the supervisor to inquire of their whereabouts. He informed me 10 minutes away (which turned into 35 minutes). I believe they stopped for a quick bite to eat, which they denied. Reason being-they we're no longer the energetic crew that arrived initially. Nevertheless, I'm all moved in. More padding should have been used. My dining cabinet has scrapes along front, (not originally there),my bedroom dresser has two dings (not originally there). When asked what is taking sooo long to bring items inside, their response was items are heavy! Same items loaded into truck from very beginning. The total job went completely over timeframe needed. I truly believe the crew milked the clock. They finished at 5:40pm. read more

I used this company on 8/5/16 The only reason I gave them one star is because you have to choose something. The worst part is I had used them 3 time before and this was the worst move ever. It took them 3 hrs to load the truck and they kept saying this is a 4 man job , if that is the case why did't you call in a 4TH man. I don't do this for a living but you do. I was moving from a 2 bedroom apt and had everything packed and beds broke down so why did it take you three hours to load the truck. Then when you get to my home you take everything off the truck but you still have 2 of my tv;s still on truck and the fridge. Then you scratched my walls and knocked a hole in a door, broke my sons headboard and COULD NOT get my refrigerator in. Then they had the nerve to tell me they could not get in through the door as stated why didn't they remove the doors to get the fridge in. Then when I called the owner to complain he said he will talk to them. I would Never RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO MOVE ANYTHING. WORSE COMPANY EVER! read more

This company should not be in business. They damaged 3/4 of my furniture. They refused to give me a receipt and charged my account Over $300 without my authorization. IWhen I called the owner he told me he would fix everything which they ended up saying the furniture was damaged when they moved it. They wrapped nothing. It was a nightmare. Ended up taking thenm to small claims court. They should not get any stars. read more

I had used them previously and never had a problem....So I decided to contact them again and it was a horrible experience. I will never use them again. I was moving into another house just down the street on the same block. Instead of packing up the truck they decided to roll my items down the street and this dragged out the time for three men. Someone actually drank one of my collecter item drinks that I have had for over 8years and tossed the empty beverage under the bathroom sink, they also backed the truck into a vehicle that was also parked in my driveway...... tried contacting the owner of the company and it as a negative experience as well. read more

I only checked 1 star because I wasn't able to write a review without clicking a star but I wouldn't give this company any star !! I used Alexander Movers in July of 2014. Once I unpacked everything I realized that I had 3 pieces of jewelry that had been stolen! The jewelry (3 rings, a high school class ring and 2 small diamond rings) were not at all expensive but they had a great deal of sentimental value. I considered filing a police report once I realized that my jewelry was gone but I didn't want to hurt the black owned moving company that was highly recommended to me. I gave the movers an old microwave (in good condition) and a box spring and mattress that I no longer wanted. Once they unloaded everything I was shocked that the person who managed the move asked me to give each of the men a $20 tip. I look back in hind sight (3 and half years) and get angrier every time I think about my experience with this company! It's unfortunate that the acts of one or two people cast an unfavorable dark shadow on an otherwise good moving company. read more

Moving is already stressful. Talk about the move from hell! Should have known it was going to be a crap move because the leader walked in the door talking crap about the name on the truck didn't mean anything he's the man! Whole day this creep is talking about you take care of us we'll take care of you, we going to be expecting a blessing etc. We told this guy a tip depends on the move, how fast and do they do a good job, still all day ... you take care of us we'll take care of you. Then they started "the may need another truck" song. Long story short, they didn't finish the moving, they broke a lot of furniture and staged a work slow down. The only thing the boss would say is I should have called him, and he'll give a percentage off another move, and he. If this is a professional reputable company I shouldn't have to call the boss, they just need to do their job. He didn't give a crap about the broken armoire, the cracks and chips on my solid marble dining table or anything else. Use them at your own risk but you can't say you weren't told, a real nightmare! read more

movers broke my dishes that were brand new still in a sealed box. put the broken dishes over in the corner under some other property and proceeded to not tell me of their destruction. i took the dishes to the company the same day to anthony who stated they were the owner but to my dismay turned out to be the dispatcher per the receptionist i spoke to the next day when i filed a complaint she stated that she would be passing it on to anthony oliver the owner. due to the latent disrespect of my property please do not use this company james has an attitude problem due to no one wanting to hire an ex-cons really who cares you did the crime and time dont blame society. stated he only gets paid waitress money and they work off of tips. the coat you were given was brand new and was worth more than the move amount and broken dishes and more combined. use the company if you wont your property destroyed and the owner refusing to give insurance information making you wonder do he have any or is he bonded will be checking and filing a complaint if he has trucks illegally being driven by uninsured drivers or equipment. if you damage property pay for it.... read more

I was initially so impressed with All My Sons dba "New City Moving". They quoted me $190/hr for…read morelabor plus a $290 flat fee, and I paid a $100 deposit. The team confirmed all the details ahead of time, including my request to move over 10 pieces of artwork. They estimated a 5-hour move with three men, and on the day of the move, they arrived promptly at 8 AM, worked efficiently, and completed the move-out by 1 PM. The move-in process at my new home started at 1 PM and wrapped up around 3 PM. Throughout the day, the team was respectful, careful with my belongings, and truly seemed to go the extra mile. I was so appreciative of their hard work that when the team lead, Sergio, requested a cash tip, I went to the ATM and withdrew $500 -- $200 of which I gave directly to the crew as they finished up. Unfortunately, this is where my experience took a sharp turn. I placed the remaining $300 in my purse, consisting of one $100 bill and $200 in $20 bills. After noticing the sky open up around 2:30 PM with heavy rain, I felt even more sympathetic to their efforts and decided to give them an additional $100. When I went to retrieve the money, I was shocked to find my purse had been disturbed and only $100 (in 20's) remained. To make matters worse, when I returned to my old apartment to finish cleaning, I found a pile of belongings left behind. Despite paying for a full-service move, it seems the crew simply decided some of my things weren't worth taking. The lack of communication and care was beyond frustrating. And if all of that wasn't enough, after providing my email address multiple times, I still have not received an itemized receipt, invoice, or a clear breakdown of charges. The final bill came to $2,145 -- almost twice the original estimate -- leaving me furious. After deducting the $100 deposit, I owed $2,045. I understand that moving is tough and unexpected factors can arise, but the dramatic increase in cost combined with the apparent theft, lack of accountability, and poor service left a lasting impression. I cannot in good conscience recommend All My Sons dba "New City Moving." While the physical labor of the move was well done, the lack of integrity and professionalism by at least one member of the crew completely ruined the experience. If you decide to use this company, I strongly advise keeping your valuables secured, double-checking that all your belongings are loaded, documenting all interactions, and following up on the communication regarding your charges.

All the communication is rapid, clear, and convenient. Price: on par with other professional moving companies in the area. Move experience: Seamless. The movers called to say they'd be a few minutes late because of truck issues, but they more than made up for that time by working quickly. They sent 5-6 people to help with our huge move (finally, a company that understands how to staff large moves!), were prepared to handle some very heavy and oddly shaped items, and were extremely proactive and patient with helping me figure out where to put some furniture in smaller spaces in my new house. Vibes: The movers treated our items with care, treated our home with respect, and were still incredibly fast with making the move. I needed movers quickly and on very short notice. I had used Alexander Movers many years ago and it was a great experience, so I reached out to them. I spoke with Anthony on Saturday, 6/27. I explained my situation. He was courteous, professional and had me scheduled for Monday, 6/29. On the morning of the move, the lead, Lamar, contacted me twice to provide details and confirm the estimated time frame of arrival. They arrived promptly and while Lamar went over the paperwork with me, his crew got to work. Lamar explained everything in great detail. By the time the paperwork was completed, they had moved most all of the items onto the truck! I also had two drop off locations. They completed the first drop off in about twenty minutes and we moved on to the final destination. It was a three man crew with three hours. They completed the job in its entirety in two hours. It was extremely hot and these guys worked so hard and efficiently to make it a smooth transition. When I contacted Alexander Movers, I had been literally stood up by TWO other companies. I was scheduled promptly and everything went according to plan because of their hard work and efforts. They literally saved me. Prior to contacting them, I was stressed and didn't know what I was going to do to get it all done. My first experience with Alexander Movers all those years ago was great and this one due to the circumstances was even better. Lamar, Darius and there was another young man whose name I can't recall, did an excellent job. They were respectful, friendly, professional and efficient. I could not have asked for more. My family has used Alexander Movers for years and have never had any issues. The crews have always been nice and go above and beyond. They move a consistent speed and get the job done. Nothing of our belongings have never been damaged. I currently rent from the owner of the moving company, so when my mom called to get a quote and gave them my address they were excited they we decided to use their "brother" company. The moving company she initially was going to use backed out on her last minute claiming they were overbooked and their may have been an issue with their system, and they wouldn't be able to accommodate her at all. Nevertheless, they booked her last minute with no hassle after being informed of the situation and that her move wouldn't be as long since she wasn't doing a traditional move. My mother moved out of state, and her husband drove to Chicago with his trailer. We only needed them to pack her trailer to go back down to Atlanta and pack up the company's truck to bring furniture my apartment. My mom was still packing ins and odds upon their arrival, and they helped her out a great ton. The furniture was heavy and they had to bring it up a 4th floor walk-up to my apartment(We had Gatorade ready for them in the freezer and they were beyond appreciative) It's hard to find black owned businesses who run their business like they should. They kept us updated on the arrival times, didn't do anything shady with paperwork, stayed professional from start to finish. Kudos to you guys! read more

The absolute best in the business, hands down. Seeing is believing. Mere words don't describe how wonderful they are at what they do. They took extra special care of my furniture. Every piece of furniture was wrapped in plastic and or covered in padded protective blankets. They took apart my bed, tables, detached my dresser from my mirror etc and put every piece back together perfectly. Not one piece of my furniture was damaged. As a matter of fact, Lamont was so meticulous, he noticed screws were missing in my dining room chair and replaced them. No damage to my walls, trim or my new floors...These guys went above and beyond and made what is typically a stressful situation into truly stress free rememberable occasion. I felt well taken care of by Alexander Movers. Lamar, Lamont Thayle and Kendall are courteous, professional, strong as ever and just super nice guys. They all keep my Mom and I laughing, especially Lamar. He keep things light and fun but stayed focused on the task at hand and finished moving me in about 5 hours.... I started my mover search really late and almost didn't have any options since it was near the EOM and a lot of movers were unavailable. I found Alexander Movers on Yelp and they were friendly and very helpful from the start. The customer service agent was informative and quickly responded to my message inquiry. Once I booked for my move and they contacted me the day before and of to verify their time of their arrival. The movers were head of schedule once the pricing and policy was explained, they promptly began to move my things. The day of the move Alexander came with 4 men and a bigger trunk then expected. They proceed to efficiently moved my all my items and informed me of any issues that came up. They even reassembled all of the furniture that needed to be broken down. I moved from an apt to a house and they did it all in 2hrs 50mins. Alexander has been servicing the community for 50yrs they were very courtesy, polite, helpful and their customer service was exemplary. I highly recommend Alexander Movers and will use again but hopefully I won't be moving again any time soon. read more

My name is James and my wife and I moved yesterday on Sept. 1 . I have moved many times in Chicago and as we all know it is the most stressful situation you can go thru...Last time I went with a big name company,,,,won't say who but I hope the BULL'S like them, well we hired Alexanders Moving. The guy's called us early,,,,they were right on time and they were polite,,,careful,,,curteous and the supervisor took his time with all the paper work with me. We have a lot of art work and they were very careful in handling it...plus crystal which they made sure was wrapped properly..I have never seen a crew move so fast and efficent...we were moved in record time with no damage.....by the end of the move we were all on a first name basis and I was so stress free.. My wife and I are newlyweds and hired Alexander Movers for a complex "Four Part" move in Chicago. They arrived at 8:00 am at my South Shore Apt., navigated three flights of stairs, disassembled a bedroom set, sectional, futon, mirrors, etc. in less than two hours. They proceeded to my wife's condo and had to go through a similar process and moved all of our furniture to another condo, fortunately there were elevators at this location. They wrapped furnishings and packed the truck with logistical competence that allowed for efficient unloading. Adherence to COVID-19 protocols were observed by all five men in the job at all times. Furniture was reassembled and their were "no" casualties with the furniture or newly painted walls. The moving team then proceeded to my sons' apartments (2), moved furniture in and reassembled accordingly. They were pleased as well with the job. This masterful moving crew was done by 4:00 pm and the price was right. Awesome job! read more

I moved out of my apartment on May 31 and Alexander Movers were great. I wanted to move as early as possible because I had a wedding to attend later in the day so they called me the day of the move and asked if I wanted to start earlier than the planned start time which was very helpful! I had to make a stop to move things into my storage and then a second stop to move things into another apartment. They were very efficient and worked diligently to complete the move. The only recommendation I would make for them is to ensure to tell people as early as possible that Sunday moves can only be paid in cash. I was informed this on a Saturday evening when I received the confirmation call and my move was the next morning. I couldn't be happier with my moving experience. I was contacted several times prior to my move to confirm the details of the move including the morning of. The truck pulled up on time with a full crew. Lamar introduced Theo, Cordell, and Don as they entered my property with protective masks as required due to COVID restrictions and began to survey each room. Lamar went through the forms for me to sign while explaining terms, liability, charges, etc. The crew got to work immediately and moved quickly. They worked hard and efficiently at each stop. When the move was complete, Lamar went over the charges with me again and finished up with a socially distant elbow bump and some laughs. My experience was phenomenal today with Alexander Movers Lamar, Theo, and Darius! They were timely, friendly, professional, and the experience was overall exceptional! From the day I requested the rate, I received personalized service and their best rate! Secretary Carla made me feel like they would take care of everything. The initial pickup was a super success, wrapped items that needed to be wrapped, and placed all items on truck within 30 minutes. Their service to deliver the items was smooth and thorough; they helped me place items where they needed to be and cleaned my patio with the remaining time! All I can say is Wow! I have hired Alexander Movers at least 5 times since 1999 and they never disappoint me - - they've done a great job every time (never once breaking or damaging not even 1 item), AND they also get the job done fast! The actual moving crew has always been punctual, courteous and careful to make sure all my special items (TV, Glass, mirrors, etc.) were carefully packed so they wouldn't get damaged. And their office staff always called afterwards to make sure we received great service. They are the only movers I would use and will definitely recommend them to anyone! These movers are super friendly, funny and FAST. Lamar, Theo, Joe, Willie and Devan made me smile throughout a stressful move. I appreciated the flat rate guarantee. There was no nonsense about truck fees and mileage. The gentlemen unloaded all the boxes in exactly the way that I wanted, sorting boxes by different labels (A, B and C.) They get the job done without a lot of fuss or extra complexity. They only took apart things that really needed instead of wasting a lot of time disassembling and wrapping every piece. Warning: There is an important pre-move day-of call that you must answer! I wish management told me about this call in advance.... In every other way, it was a great move. read more

On 12/30/17, my husband and I used Alexander Mover's to move into our new home. Although the crew was a bit late because they had to stop for fuel, the manager gave me a call prior to my move time to inform me that they were going to be a few minutes late, and the movers came at the new time. Fletcher, Antonio, and Ben were very professional. Fletcher explained the process and the forms to us and answered any questions we had. The three gentleman were very efficient and tried to the best of their ability to complete the move within the stated time frame. This is my third time using Alexander Mover's. Smith I had the pleasure of being moved recently by Alexander's and the experience was good, my driver James and two other guys showed up on time, excessed my needs I agreed with the process and signed the necessary paperwork. The team handled my furnishings with great care, their attitudes were upbeat and they worked extremely hard to stay within my budget. Once at my new location it was accessed to determine the safest and most efficient way to unload, they unloaded and asked where I wanted things placed throughout my home. OMGG!!! So this was my second Move...and my experience I had with Aaron Brothers was so HORRID..That I did not want to go through that EVER again. When my Move captain Joseph met me at my apartment and when we were doing the paper work he reassured me that his guys would be professional, and pack my things up with in a very timely manner and handle with care...And boy they did!!! I recommend them to anyone!!!!! And didn't go over my budget!!! Told Joseph I want my same crew Antonio, Eric, and my apologies I forgot my third guy but OMGG They are the best and reasonable!!! I moved some personal effects from a storage unit in an Extra Space Storage to a smaller locker yesterday. I contacted Alexander Movers after searching for a moving company on the South Side. The customer service person who arranged the move and followed up was very professional. The two movers assigned - Kendall and Willie - arrived on time, were very efficient at packing my personal effects into the smaller storage unit with extra space for additional personal effects. We used Alexander movers on August 29, 2017. I was nervous because we hadn't moved in 17 years. Needless to say I was extremely satisfied with their services. They moved a very old very heavy dresser without having to remove my front door as another mover had done in the past. Additionally they wrapped and moved my precious art pieces without any damage. Finally the time in which the move took place fit right in with the time I was quoted. They put my items in the new home in record time. Again, I was very pleased. Hey I recently moved twice and I must say it was very impressive and the experience was great. My movers Lamar, Theo and Dewayne was very professional, courteous and fast and made my move stress free. Normally I hate moving but with this crew it was fun and they were very accommodating and attentive to my belongings and there were no scratches or broken items. I have to begin this review with a huge THANK YOU to Alexander Movers. By far the best moving company I have ever worked with. Not only were the crew members tremendously hard workers, they were extremely polite on an intensely hot day. They completed in three hours what would have taken us three days to finish. I called Alexander Movers on Sunday morning! I spoke to Antony Alexander who set me right up for a move on Monday morning. His team did everything as he explained, and when they showed up, they were friendly and alert, checking out what needed to go while I addressed paperwork and got me moved, nothing broken and still very cordial at the end of the move. I had a heavy table top that needed to be moved from the lobby of my condominium to the 3rd floor; it had been left there by another moving company. I called Alexander Mover's and explained the situation. They came out, never complained about the table top getting to the 3rd floor, very courteous, timely.
