I regularly stay at the Alexander (twice a month) and it is a comfortable, friendly hotel. It is however very quiet when there is no 'function' on and the bar is regularly empty (try the Ginger Man pub next door!).
Be warned though: The restaurant is only open for breakfast and special functions. Guests can use the restaurant in the adjacent Davenport, which is above average, but not spectacular.
Rooms are clean and comfortable, although the beds are on the softer side of blancmange... Breakfast is functional, but expensive for what is offered.
The room rate has fallen drastically in the past few months, so it is now reasonable value for a city-centre hotel, close to all the places worth visiting in the evening. read more
