I stopped at a barber shop and asked the best place to get food in Limon was and they told me a truck stop. Shameful. On my way out of town I spotted Alex Taverna. A five-star Yelp review is not to be trifled with so I went in. The only reason I'm giving it five stars is because Yelp doesn't allow 6 stars. This is a place you will talk about for years and not just because it's in Limon, Colorado where a local barber thinks a truck stop is good cuisine. Nellie, the owner, is a character and a gem. One of the loveliest people you could hope to meet. The food is healthy, tasty and affordable. She insisted I try so many salads even though I was already full. The beef Kabob and rice were amazing and the Turkish coffee kept me alert for the 5-hour drive in front of me. Drive out of your way to get here. read more

The Mediterranean dish I had, chicken kabobs, rice, and salad, was delicious. There was a bakery here also and we were given a complimentary croissant which was the flakiest I've ever had. Wonderful! The small restaurant had delightful decor from the owner's home city, Tbilisi, Georgia, formerly part of Russia. Stopped in for dinner and was pleasantly surprised by a wonderful, home cooked menu of Eastern European/Mediterranean style food. Everything we tried was great. They were sold out of several items that I was looking forward to trying, so I guess that means a return trip is in order. A great place to eat while driving through to Denver. Looked at the available options for lunch and this was the best looking option (if you don't want fast food). Since this place had good reviews, we decided to check it out. Pretty small store/restaurant with maybe 6-7 tables. Only one other party was there when we arrived. There wasn't anyone to greet us as we entered and it wasn't immediately clear if seating was open or if someone was supposed to seat us and bring menus. There is only one set one menus on the countertop and it doesn't have everything they have listed (for example Turkish coffee wasn't on the menu, but they do served it). After about a few mins of trying to figure ourselves out, the owner (I'm guess owner/mom) came and greeted us. We were still unsure if we were to sit and order or order at the counter...we ended up just choosing a table and able to sit when another group came in. She turned her attention to them to inform them immediately that they don't serve alcohol. The 3 guys then said they weren't looking to order any alcohol. She had a nice convo with them while we were still unclear about how to order. We only overheard her point to the small menu on the wall behind the counter and decided that we were supposed to choose from that menu. She comes by again and asks us what we wanted. Without writing anything down, she takes our order. A few mins later she comes back and asked apologetically what we had ordered. While waiting for our food, several more parties come in. Everyone seemed really confused about what to do (sit down? Wait for someone? Order up front?). The mom eventually comes out and greets/take orders. There is a little fridge in the corner with drinks and apparently you just grab what you want since they don't ask if you wanted any drinks other than water. There was definitely a bit of chaos in terms on how to order, who gets what food first. The table next to us ordered a Turkish coffee and when we were done with our meal (it was very very good by the way - we had the chicken kabob and beef stroganoff), we also ordered a Turkish coffee. The mom brings out the cup of coffee to us and the table who ordered before us was confused. They had to remind her that they had also ordered a cup (before us). The food is amazing for what is available in the area. The service and attention could have been a bit better and clearer. The mom did note that it was a busier day than usual and they have only been open for a little over a year. Seems like they're still trying to figure things out. We weren't in a hurry so that wasn't an issue. If in the area again I'd definitely go back. Parking was easy- toward the side where the quilting store is. read more

This restaurant was great and we loved the atmosphere. We came in a little late due to a day trip to Colorado, and on our way back we stopped in Limon, and this place was perfect. Delicious hearty authentic Eastern European food that you don't usually find in small towns. The rice was warm and buttery and the beef kabob was just an explosion of flavor. WOW! What a refreshing and amazing experience. Did not expect to find this place in Limon Co! Live only 20 miles away in a small town... Used to own my own restaurant/ bakery there. This place is a life changer!!! The food was absolutely worth signing up for Yelp!!! Can not explain the wonderful flavors I experienced... I decided to try 3 of the salads and brought home 3 of them, then walked back in and bought Dinner for taking home! :) I have to say, Absolutely everything was perfect. And Again, I used to own my own place! ( Extremely picky restaurant person ) Very clean, Service was Out of this World. Even opened my door and offered H2O for my bulldog! Desert's were...
